and like, when it’s his birthday, they all wanna do something to help him out, and suddenly Mel has like 20 waiters. It’d be funnier if he didn’t really notice too, he’d just be like “huh. Did we get more staff?” and Eli would be like “yes, we have 10 times the usual.” and Mel would ask “where did those come from?” “It’s your birthday, they probably came to help out” “it’s my birthday?” bc you know this guy would deadass forget his own birthday, and Eli just facepalms bc she knows how smart Mel is and just wonders how one man can be so smart yet so dumb at the same time, but that’s also one of the reasons why she loves him so much so she can’t really say anything

Ok but how do they know it’s his birthday? I’m not sure if Meliodas would even tell anyone. I’m pretty sure Merlin already knows and so will Gowther and Ellie when they get their memories but neither of them except Ellie seem the type to really celebrate with. Gowther because he was confused on what the concept of a birthday even was up until recently and Merlin cuz she just couldn’t care less

There’s a few ways i can imagine them getting to know his birthday

Before they became traitors, Eli celebrated her birthdays and asked when Mrls birthday was. Mel told her (or told her some fake date) and the others overheard.

Maybe holy knights need certificates to do their job, and said certificate has to have their birth date on it, and Howzer or Hendi used their position as great holy knight to look at Mels.

Mel slighted Merlin and as revenge, she told everyone about his birthday bc she knows how much he dislikes celebrating his for some reason.

They asked him directly once when he was zoning out and he just told them outright without it really registering.

I like to think it might be a mixture of them. Ellie knows because Meliodas told her, Gowther obviously knows because he has Demon Gowther’s memories and the entire demon race knows Meliodas’ birthday (perk of being the crowned prince), Meliodas didn’t lie per se in his records and actually gave the right date but totally wrong year and Hendi totally went snooping ages ago and that’s how the knights knew, Merlin was slighted and told the Sins and when they went to check if she was bullshitting them (she does that a lot) Mel just confirmed it cuz he was zoned the duck out. Of course the important thing here is that once everyone knows about it Meliodas is never going to get any peace because everyone is gonna want to celebrate

Omg, imagine if like 200ppl or so show up to celebrate Mels birthday, and while he’s flattered he’s also overwhelmed by all of them suddenly showing up, but he powers through for the sake of them, but sleeps through the following week.

But to avoid all of that next year, he plans a ‘vacation’ to the middle of nowhere with just Eli, and the sins just casually inviste themselves (and maybe a few others) along and even though it’s less ppl to deal with, Mel still gets overwhelmed and spends the entire next day or two in bed just sleeping off the exhaustion. (Oooh, this has angst potential)

And eventually, either by themselves or Eli telling them, the sins realize that maybe inviting a ton of ppl for their captains birthday is a bad idea. Or Mel tells them himself after a confrontation after Mel trying his hardest to get away from everyone, except maybe Eli, on his birthday.

Mel probably went through drastic measures where he ran away from home or something on his birthday and Ellie had to find him and after that the Sins all sit together and have a heart to heart where they realize that this is really a lot for their Captain, who’s never really had a reason to celebrate his birthday before now. After that they just leave it to themselves and anyone else Mel wants to invite

and before they were exiled, the sins didn’t get along well enough to really throw something together, so back then Mels birthday was mostly comprised of them wishing him a happy birthday and maybe paying for an ale or two for him.

After the ten years tho, the sins ask Hawk how he celebrated his birthday all those years and Hawk is just like “Meliodas has a birthday?” Bc it just never occured to him. And the sins realize that Meliodas hasn’t had a proper birthday party at least since the sins were gathered, maybe even for longer. So they wanna do something big, and Mel looks like he’s enjoying himself, but he’s just putting on a smile all day which is exhausting, so the next week he sleeps for a week. The sins figure it’s from exhaustion, but it’s not from what they think it is (the party) but from pretending all day. Eventually, Baltra comes to the sins with a mission and Mel is forced to leave his bed, but if it wasn’t for that, Mel easily could’ve slept for a month.

I described the second time above, with Mel taking Eli for a vacation and them inviting themselves along and stuff. It still goes wrong, but better than the first time. Mel still didn’t like it though bc it was still sprung on him. It was probably a surprise party and i’m gonna hc that Mel doesn’t like surprise parties solely bc i don’t either.

So when the third time rolls around, Mel can already tell they’re trying the surprise party thing again, but only on the day it’s happening. He notices the Boar Hat is awfully quiet and can feel a lot of souls gathered in the ground floor of his home, and instead of enduring a party all day, he just fucking books it out the window. None of the sins notice bc he’s too good at hiding his magic signature, and Eli got up before him, but didn’t know about the surprise either. The sins apologize and tell her that they kept it secret from her as well bc they think Mel would’ve found out if they had told her. Eli is slightly offended but can see where they’re coming from.

How this goes on depends on whether she knew that he liked having his birthday celebrated or not.

If she does, she’s trying to do damage control, and tells them that he doesn’t like being surprised like that.

If she doesn’t, she’ll be just as confused as the sins, but might know that he booked it bc she sensed him leaving in a hurry.

And it takes a while for them to find Mel, who for some reason is laying in a lake a few miles away, and when they do find him, he makes up the excuse that he wanted to go for a morning swim, and that he wanted fish today or something like that. And before they can drag him back, he leaves again before they can get a word in, leading to a chase through the entirety of Liones and they eventually manage to capture him and drag him back.

By then though, he’s too exhausted to put on a mask all day, so after the inital cake and food, he just goes to bed in the middle of the day after thanking them for ‘all of this’.

The next day, they confront him about the day before, and he tries to make up excuses, but no one believes him and he’s forced to finally tell the truth.

Also think of how it might have been 3000 years ago. Maybe part of why Meliodas hates a lot of ppl being around to celebrate his birthday is because, as his father’s puppet, the Demon King would throw these elaborate parties where hundreds of demons would be forced to pay tribute to his favored son and Meliodas just… didn’t like that because it was clear to everyone that this was just another manipulation method for the king to control his son with. Sorta saying “Because you are my puppet I can gift you with such elaborate things and your people will do anything for your approval but don’t disappoint me boy, because I can easily take it away” plus Meliodas most certainly does not see the appeal of elaborate balls and parties and just prefer everyone to have a good time! The demons he’d be surrounded with on his birthday were clearly either not there by choice or wished to manipulate him in some way. Then after he escaped that grip and joins Stigma years start passing and Elizabeth realized that not once did they celebrate Mel’s birthday! As a doting wife she absolutely cannot allow that so she get Glox and Drole together and they give him the first birthday party he’s ever actually annoyed in his life! Only… they did it in the wrong day because Meliodas has never actually given them his birthday and Mel didn’t really realize it was meant to be for his birthday until years later

yess, and one of the reasons it also took him so long to realize that it was meant for his birthday is bc they never actually said the words “happy birthday”.

They had cake and tea and everything that they could get their hands on for a party, and with only the four of them that Meliodas also actually liked, it was nice. They had cake, played some games, exchanged funny anecdotes, and generally took a day just to relax and have fun. It was one of the first genuinely happy memories that Meliodas made in his (back then) relatively short life.

What I can also see is Mel just straight up never figuring it out, and asking Elizabeth like “Hey, about that party back in Stigma, I really liked it and still remember it fondly, but was it for a special event of some sort?” and Eli is like “oh, your birthday party? It was for your birthday, silly^^” Omg tho, what if Eli never asked Mels birthday and just picked a day at random, and just assumed from then on that that day was Mels birthday, and it takes her until Mel asks “ah, so are birthday parties always meant to be celebrated just randomly in the year?” that she realizes that doesn’t actually know the date XD

and yess, manipulation birthday parties thrown by the DK 👀👀👀 He hates being the center of attention, and probably resisted being the captain of the sins as well, at least a little. Why he became Danafors great holy knight tho, idk, maybe he expected that Eli comes to him while he served as a knight and figured the best way to protect her was being the chief holy knight or something.

Another reason I can picture Mel not liking big parties, and specifically surprise parties, is that in most of his life, the surprises were very very bad in the form of enemies attacking him while he slept, and then Eli literally dying 100+ times right in front of him no matter what. The death wasn’t surprising, but the CAUSE of it ususally was.

And this one’s more of a personal reason for me, but usually big crowds = a lot of people to watch out for. As a bartender, his role is more to the side and he can see customers coming up to him to order or to talk, so that’s generally more relaxing. Being the star of the party means that anyone could start up a convo with him whether he expects it or not, and that kind of paying attention takes a lot of out a person bc you always gotta be alert.

I think the Great Holy Knight thing was something that might have been forced upon him like, maybe he initially came to Danafor as a regular Knight but with how powerful, well liked, and a generally great leader he was they kinda… forced the position on him. Like, at that point the choice was either leave or become the Great Holy Knight’s next successor because of just how many ppl were pushing the position onto to the point they’d actually ignore the current Grandmaster over Meliodas and Mel wasn’t really ready to leave yet so he was like, “Ok! Fine! When the grandmaster is ready to retire I’ll take over… jeez! Now stop performing a mutiny!” And well… the Grandmaster retired and Meliodas, who was expecting to have been long gone before the grandmaster retired, has to keep that promise he made and become the next Great Holy Knight.

Also yeah Meliodas has some severe social anxiety going on there. You almost can’t actually tell it cuz of how good he is at hiding it but Meliodas can’t stand being the center of attention because he’s lived so much of his formative years as the center of a lot of ppl’s attention and quite a lot of them hostile. He’d much prefer to fade into the background and observe from afar, only jumping into the conversation as needed on his terms. It’s part of why he was so good at handing such a rambunctious group like the Sins! He definitely resisted and probably tried to convince Baltra to make Merlin the leader instead but Merlin pulled some “it’s your destiny” crap to bail out of the responsibility and Baltra refused on the principal that if he’s gonna let a bunch of known criminals work under his banner he wants to make sure a Knight he trusts is the leader and Meliodas, as a sin himself and his youngest daughter’s personal Knight, is the best option

I imagine Ellie does ask at some point when she realizes she got the day wrong but that first birthday party was more a “sorry we forgot your birthday let’s have it belatedly” thing only she kinda forgot to tell Mel it was for his birthday and he thought it was just a regular get together. Shortly after the party she asks him when his actual birthday is and starts giving him gifts, but Mel just thinks that Ellie is just doing the customary gift giving that couples do and neglects to think about the time that she gives this annual gift because he kinda blocks his birthday out of his mind most of the time.

As for the Sins they first learned it was his birthday when Merlin gave him a present. It’s no secret Merlin and Meliodas have known each other for years beforehand and the two are the closest to each other and they figured, “Hey, let’s buy him a round of ale to celebrate!” After the ten year gap is when they start to get really elaborate though since they are actually starting to get past the barriers Mel held up all these years. They have always loved and respected him due to just how much he cares for each and every single one of them individually but before the ten year gap they never really knew him besides Merlin and now that they do they want to show him how much they appreciate him!

Fuck yess, he was tricked into the great holy knight position, and Merlin was a smartass and forcing him into the position instead of her XD bc idk about you but if Merlin were to have ended up the sins captain, I’m pretty sure she would’ve just frozen all of them in time for annoying her so much XD

After Elizabeth got her memories back and the curse was broken, her and Mel could finally breathe freely for the first time in 3000 years. And Elizabeth prepared a birthday gift for Mel and invited all the sins, and when they were reminded of his birthday, they wanted to do something big, but couldn’t bc of lack of time. They could just scramble together some gifts and offer to pay for the booze.

But bc of that, they started right away on the next birthday party to make it as perfect as possible. They went all around Liones for ppl who also wanted to come, and the initial party ended up being a weeklong trip through several villages XD

At some point, one of the sins probably asked Mel what his favourite kind of cake was and he just replied “i dunno, i don’t really like cake that much” and they (mainly Merlin) were appalled bc how could you not like cake??? And they bring him several kinds for his birthday. They didn’t talk about the cake beforehand so everyone brought a cake and they had like 5 cakes (King and Diane collaborated). And bc they’re all convinced that theirs is the best one, everyone tried to shove a plate or just the cake itself in Mels face. Poor Mel just wants a quiet morning. On that note, the mornings are quiet most of the time bc most of them are usually still sleeping off the booze from the night before. There’s a small chance Mel often invites them to drink at night so they’re at least quiet in the morning.

As for presents, I doubt Mel has any wishes. The go to gift for him is a bottle of Vanya Ale or some more exotic liquor, Eli can gift him clothes since she knows his size perfectly, but other than that idk what one would give him. But i’m also bad at thinking of presents in general tbh.

Now I like to think Elizabeth, after the curse is broken, decided not to ignore those 3000 years per se… but she doesn’t count them within her calculations of Meliodas’ birthday. Firstly because the calculation of 3000+ years is complicated enough without adding in purgatory time and secondly, Meliodas technically wasn’t aging during that time so while he increased in age chronologically he didn’t actually grow older. So they started off where they left off when it comes to Meliodas’ age which… being a demon… was still rather ridiculous by human standards

okay now i’m just imagining Eli telling the sins Mels age (which would be idk like 300 years?) and the sins wanna go by human customs of putting as many candles on a cake as the persons age, and they struggle to find enough candles as well as a cake big enough. Yeah yeah and like… the other villages? They all absolutely adore Meliodas so like… they still wanna celebrate. It gets to the point that it becomes a festival or national holiday despite Meliodas’ insistence he doesn’t need that because so many ppl wanna celebrate this dude that rules them and protects them even when the entire kingdom was against him

Meliodas sighs and lays his head on the table. “Which village is next?” “Vanya.” “Ah, Vanya. Mead even invited us personally to that one, right?” “Yeah.” He sighed again. “Mead is gonna be heartbroken if I don’t show up.” Then he chugged the last of the coffee. “Welp, let’s go then. It’s the last one anyway, right?” Elizabeth started to sweat a little. “…yes.” “It’s… the last one… right, Elizabeth?” “……..No comment.” Meliodas’ voice dropped to a whisper. “Please don’t make me go to another one.”

And of course let’s not forget that he’s STILL a demon prince, even if he did give the throne up. So the demon clan will want to do something for him even if they don’t have as many positive feeling about him as the humans do, if only because he’s their current king’s older brother

Mel not only has to wear a crown but tons of decorations too. By the time he’s done dressing, he’s wearing more gold and jewels than fabric. And even for the demon realm, some of this stuff is especially precious and makes him stand out, giving off a dimm shine even in the darkness of the demon realm. And since it’s been 3000 years, Zel had to help him dressing in it all, and might’ve been a little shit and added even more bc he’s the king now and he can do that.

Mel: was this stuff always this heavy? Ugh..

Zel: stop whining, you sound like a child.

Mel: says the younger one of us, who is LITERALLY DOING ALL OF THIS TO BECAUSE HE KNOWS I HATE IT

The only downside in Zeldris’ eyes is that, as the actual king, he’s expected to be twice as blinged out as his brother, even if Mel is the guest of honor! When it comes time for him to get dressed, Meliodas is every bit as unsympathetic as you expect and more. The Sins however are very much enjoying seeing their Captain decked out in the full royal regalia and most certainly are gonna be asking Gowther to save this memory for them to replay at any time! Elizabeth thinks he looks extremely handsome and is very sympathetic to his plight, but she did still laugh at his spit expression

and to Mels chagrin, Zel invited the sins as well, giving them his blessing as the demon king so they can live normally in the underworld, unaffected by the miasma.

And since this is the first time that they see Mel dressed as the actual prince that he is, they’re especially loud and attention-bringing, in the “Ban lifts Mel up and shouts loud enough for miles to hear ‘COME AND CELEBRATE YOUR FOLK HERO!!!’ and Mel wants to murder him but he can’t do that while ppl are looking” kind of way, and he’s stuck smiling and waving and making an effort to not let his spitefulness show when a brave little demon child comes up to him and gives him a flower or a cookie or something. Thankfully, he actually relaxes when he sees how excited the children are though, bc he has a big soft-spot for them. His reasons for killing the former demon king could’ve been called selfish, considering he did it ‘just’ to be with his love and started a war, leading to so many people (and not just demons) dying and stuff, but seeing that his actions brought relief to others as well did give him a warm feeling in his chest. This is immediately interrupted though when Zeldris drags him from festivity to festivity, making him sit through tons of events like plays and speeches and what-not, all in his honor, where he pretty much just sits on a throne and watches. And Zeldris can’t be too obvious, but he’s totally watching Mels suffering from the corner of his eyes. And the sins all have seats of honor for helping in the fight against the former DK, and while they’re enjoying the plays and games, they also can’t keep their eyes off of their captain bc 1) he’s super fucking pretty with all that bling, and 2) he’s actually acting all princely, which is a side they’ve NEVER seen before. Eli makes a mental note to ask Zel if they could keep some of what Mel is wearing right now, because she would LOVE for him to wear it more often. And as Mels wife/mate, Zel also gave Eli some royal garments to wear, though nowhere near as much as the brothers themselves.

And I can totally picture that while Mel isn’t one for vanity, when he saw himself in the mirror with all his decorations, he must’ve liked what he saw, at least a little bit. He definitely posed a bit when he thought no one was looking.

Meliodas does kick Ban’s ass later for that stunt he pulled. The Sins overall have a really good time and enjoy being immersed in the culture Meliodas grew up in for the most part, even if it isn’t quite the same since Zeldris has made some very needed changes since becoming king. After the initial ribbing they all agree that seeing Meliodas dressed and acting the part really hits home that their Captain actually is royalty, which before was a near negligible fact because Mel most certainly didn’t look or act the part, even with his own kingdom to run now. It’s a really interesting feeling.

Meliodas totally got back at Zeldris when it came time for HIS birthday though. He pulled out all the stops and kept gushing to everyone about how Zeldris is his “precious baby brother” and how “proud he is to see his baby brother so grown up” and all sorts of saccharine things all while hammering home that he is the older sibling each and every time. Zeldris doesn’t get the point of closed collared shirts and tunics and constantly asks Meliodas how the hell he can breathe in those and Mel has absolutely no sympathy while he gets his brother ready.

Zeldris absolutely allowed Elizabeth to take some of the pieces home with her provided she promises to take good care of that since their ancient family heirlooms and important pieces of the royal treasury, and as for her royal garments she absolutely looked fabulous in them.

The children are absolutely thrilled to meet Meliodas! They grew up hearing stories all about him, and not only the children were thrill but several of the adult demons that weren’t part of the war were as well. Those mixed groups that didn’t think Meliodas to be a traitor, or still believed in him in spite of it.

Yeah Meliodas can act like he hates it but even he understand that he looks good. He’s always looked good and wearing demonic styled clothing again feels really good, even if he’s not too happy about the circumstances

After the party is over, the sins absolutely bombard Mel with endless questions about demon culture, games, food, traditions, popular folktales, etc etc. And you’d think that Meliodas would be a little uncomfortable talking about his own culture and childhood after 3000 years of being forced to hide it. It feels good to talk about it, and share a bit about himself.

Mel organizes a week long trip through the kingdom for his brothers birthday, much like the sins did for him before. And since he’s not pushed into the center of attention against his will, he’s much more relaxed. Unlike Zeldris, who scowls at him at every opportunity, wishing that looks could kill. And Meliodas absolutely feels the murderous intent, and relishes in it, because it means that his revenge is working. A few times tho, for a few minutes, Zeldris forgets that this is Meliodas’ revenge plot and becomes genuinely curious about human stuff. He sees stuff he’s never seen before, food that seems alien to his demon eyes, and little gold jewelry, even less with gems, that’s styled so differently from how demons do it. Those are fleeting moments though, because much like Zeldris did with him, Meliodas parades Zeldris around the villages, always showing him off in the several layers of clothing, dyed in intricate patterns and outstanding colors. You could spot him from a mile away. And since Mel doesn’t give much of a shit about rank (very much unlike demons), he doesn’t have to outdo Zeldris’ (human) bling. Baltra still makes his son-in-law dress up though, and Eli probably makes him wear a piece or two from the demons heirlooms. At least a small one.

As for Gelda, we don’t know much about vampires, but as the ‘in-between’ of humans and demons, their style of clothing isn’t that different from the humans, so it’s not an issue for her. And while she loves seeing Zeldris decked in the shiny decorations of the demon realm, she had to admit that seeing Zeldris in human clothing which is very distinct from the demon style clothing did something for her.

The humans were relaxed around their king, and only a few adults were uptight about showing respect and stuff. Some stared at Zeldris though. Not with hostility, but with curiosity. Anyone related to the infamous captain of the seven deadly sins, and now king of Liones, would bring attention. And they looked so much alike. If they were to wear relatively good wigs of each others hair, they could totally pass as one another.

And you betcha Mel had a speech prepared to say when they entered a village, sitting Zeldris down in the center of the place and talking all about how great and cute his little brother is, and making Zeldris wish the ground would swallow him up, wishing that Meliodas would stop calling him cute. He’s the demon king, he’s kinda supposed to be at least a little scary, and Meliodas being a doting older brother was so embarassing to him.

This whole mess triggers a competition between the two brothers to see who could make the other the most uncomfortable at formal social events since that’s something the two mutually despise. It’s all in good fun but only themselves and their wives really know it’s happening. Also as much as he tries unfortunately Zeldris cannot match intimidation as well as Mel does, he is too damn cute! Meliodas’ own contribution isn’t helping either since he’s actively being a doting brother and trying to make ppl understand that his brother is adorable. Instead brute power is the way to go with him!

Meliodas is happy to share his culture with anyone who’s genuinely curious and isn’t looking to use him to find some weakness! He’s held his tongue to so many lies over the years he is thrilled to finally be able to correct some of the misconceptions about demons he’s heard over the years and it’s not like he hates his own ppl, quite the opposite. He loves his people and his culture, it’s just if it was a choice between staying his father’s puppet and losing Elizabeth or being with Ellie and being free he’d pick the latter every time!

Baltra didn’t really force Meliodas to dress formally, more like he stood by and watched Elizabeth begging Mel to put the pretty jewelry they got form the demonic royal treasury back on and agreeing with her whenever Mel tried to turn to him for help. If asked he’d give some excuse about helping Meliodas to regain some of his pride in the heritage he’d spent 3000 years hiding from but in truth he just wanted to see his son-in-law decked out in pretty jewels since he wasn’t there to see him in the full regalia and heard it was a pretty impressive sight

A lot of ppl are curious about Zeldris, some recognize him from the war but most treat him with the same curiosity they would treat Meliodas if he were walk down the street. They want to know a lot about demon culture since that’s not often they get to speak to an actual demon besides their king and Mel is still getting used to being allowed to show the fact he’s a demon so most don’t bother asking him even if he’d be happy to answer any questions they have. The children are especially curious

Zeldris really loves exploring the differences between human and demon culture. The different smells, food, fabrics? They spend how much in gold here!? You can literally pick that stuff up while walking back home! He loves to explore it with Gelda and experience new things

Speaking of Gelda, the dear girl had to stop herself from biting Zel’s neck right then and there when she saw him in formal human clothes. Poor girl nearly had a heart attack from how good her man looks and definitely spend quite a bit getting him a wardrobe of human styles to try out, Meliodas gleefully contributed to the pile with some of his older shirts and pants that he doesn’t wear anymore since the two have a similar sizes.

bruh, since Mel and Zel are so close now, an official bond of sorts between demons and humans (in Liones at least) wouldn’t be that far off, and there’s definitely a festival dedicated to the union of humans and demons. And because the demon world isn’t too hospitable to anything other than demons, it’s celebrated in the human realm, and Mel and Zel as the kings of the respective race get garments made specifically for this one (annual) event. It involves both human and demon styles, and there’s definitely an exchange event regarding fashion specifically, and everyone begs for Mel to come with his full demon regalia. The sins and Eli all agree that him making an effort as the human king is important to kickstart the whole thing, and Baltra wants to finally see how he looks when dressed as the demon prince that he is. He walks out of the curtains and onto the stage in full demon regalia, fully showing off his heritage in the human realm for the first time. He’s a little embarrassed about it, all decked out in gold and jewels as the only one there, but he takes a deep breath and walks out with stride. The people can barely believe what they’re seeing. Their humble and child-like king seems much older and mature in demon fashion. Every single piece was polished until it shined, and in the human realm where there’s much more light than in the demon realm, you’d almost need sunglasses to look at him directly. And since Zeldris knows how much he hated standing out, he ordered those pieces to be shined to perfection. That, and he didn’t want the showcasing of the demon regalia (of which definitely rumors have been spread by the sins) to be anything less than perfect.

Likewise Zeldris, as the king of demons, needed to be all dressed up as well in human clothing. Since Meliodas dresses almost plain as king, Baltra helped out a lot, as well as Margaret (bc I believe them to be the most familiar with royal stuff in general). Mel came to watch Zel suffer, and Eli was there to supervise and make sure they all got along. Zeldris walked out on stage in the most colorful fabrics he had ever seen. Dyed to strongly, they were likely a match for the most beautiful gems of the underworld. And they came in all kinds of colors, too, and the patterns were so intricate, it was hard to tell what it even was. He was dressed in layers upon layers, and had to admit that he felt a little stuffy, but if Mel can stand in a crown while shining like a beacon, he can wear some colorful layers (is what Mel argued).

Other than the fashion event, the festival was dedicated to sharing cultures. Demons young and old came to learn about the humans, and to share some of their own things. Many demons were fascinated by the diversity of the human food, both fruits and baked goods.

Since King and Diane are important members of their races too, and Elizabeth is still a freaking goddess, they could probably make it into a multicultural event where people form all the main races come together to show off their culture and fashion! Bone and fur clothing from the giants, flower crowns and the softest cottons from the fairies, feathery cloaks from the goddesses!

Baltra most certainly was the mastermind behind the idea of the festival. He wanted to see the full regalia and it was the perfect excuse to both solidify his kingdom’s alliance with one of the lost powerful races in the world and see his son-in-law in pretty jewels and gold. He cries to Margaret later that Meliodas and Elizabeth (who wore her demonic regalia garments in support of her husband) looked so handsome and beautiful together. Veronica definitely bought some nice stuff from the various stalls that were set up

Just like they did with the party in the demon realm the Sins all blew Meliodas’ full regalia out of proportion and most certainly picked him up and showed him off to everyone they could after the fashion show. Meliodas actually expected it this time so unfortunately Ban did not get out of picking him up and holding him aloft Lion King style without consequences (instead it was Eli who held him aloft because she knew Mel would never hurt her)

Zeldris complained about feeling like a jester the whole time leading up to his entrance but overall the reaction his wife had made it all worth it. Plus seeing Meliodas gleaming like a Christmas tree made the whole experience so much better because he gets to both show off his people’s majesty and culture all while embarrassing the shit out of his brother. Win-Win

The moment Meliodas stepped out in the stage a hush fell over the crowd. They were stunned solid to see their king looking so pretty in his demon regalia and at least a few painters become inspired. Meliodas becomes beat red at the looks he gets for the next few weeks because the image stuck

Meliodas in his demon regalia became a famous topic to talk about. The entire kingdom knew about it, and almost every single painter who was there painted several pieces. Baltra demanded that Meliodas and Elizabeth incorporate more of their demon regalia/garments into their clothing for formal events, for Meliodas “because it’s important to be proud of your heritage!” and for Eli he outright says because she looks absolutely stunning. Something that Meliodas had to agree on with him, no matter how much he tried to contest himself wearing his own pieces.

Zeldris kept trying to deny that he liked the human clothes, but after a bit of convincing from Gelda, he took some of the clothes home anyway, saying “it wasn’t that bad, but I’m never wearing more than 3 layers at a time again!” which even Meliodas had to admit was fair.

The festival even goes on at night, so that truly everyone, including vampires and rather nocturnal demons, could see everything. This also meant that Meliodas and Zeldris had to get all dressed up twice in each others respective royal garments. And at night, Meliodas shined even brighter, and he didn’t even need a light for walking around, because all his gems and jewels and what-not gave off just enough light. And he was even brighter the closer he was to a light-source, so you betcha Ban kept bringing lanterns close to him and making him stand out even more than he already was. Meliodas was this close to punting him into the horizon, but thankfully Elizabeth distracted him enough that he didn’t. What sucked for Mel though, was that Zeldris with his human fabrics barely stood out. The little shit could disappear into the darkness, even with the 10 layers of clothes he had on.

Many demons showed great interest in the bone and fur stuff from the giants, mainly because of how resilient it was. Plenty also loved the quite literally heavenly soft cloaks and blankets from the goddesses that made you feel like you were sleeping on a cloud, while the goddesses (more or less begrudingly) had to admit that the many jewels and gold ‘didn’t look half bad’.

I just realized that it can be assumed that Elizabeth didn’t exactly play the same role for the SD as Mel and Zel did for the DK, so I don’t know if Elizabeth herself had any goddess royal garments or regalia. Or if goddesses even do that kinda stuff. From what little we did see from the goddess clan, long dresses and flowing clothes were more their style. But what I can see is Mael bringing some of the more regal clothes for Elizabeth that he found (or had made especially for her) since he still holds her in high regards.

I wonder if Ludociel came to the festival of all the races. I could see him not wanting to go bc “ew, the filthy demons are gonna be there? No thanks” but also showing up anyway as not to embarrass the goddess clan by showing up without their leader. I can see Ludociel being less welcome than the demons though, since it probably became known that he’s lying and cheating bastard among the humans. The demons probably already knew, considering most of them were probably already alive when the goddesses broke the treaty and assassinated all the civilian demons (when we see Derieris sister being killed in that arc).

While Baltra was definitely the mastermind behind the festival (like you said), Meliodas and Elizabeth had a hand in planning the whole thing. And Meliodas absolutely insisted that since he had to get all dressed up and shine like the sun on earth, everyone else had to do something, too. At least King and Diane, as the respective leaders of their races. At first they were hesitant to show off in front of this many people of all races, but Meliodas kept pushing them “for the sake of unity, come on!” But really, he kinda wanted to get back at them a little for kinda parading him around back in the demon realm. Ban may have been the instigator of that, but they joined in and are therefore guilty as well.

Jokes on Meliodas, King and Diane enjoyed dressing up in their ceremonial outfits and being paraded around! It made them feel special. They were only shy cuz of how many ppl there were.

Baltra is running a one man campaign to try and force his son-in-law to accept more of his heritage. The moment this dude learned Mel was a demon and about the curse he was like “aight, time to make this guy my son and force him to accept those parts of him he’s been hiding all these years!” He is a very supportive father who dived head first into learning all he can about demon and goddess Imgur’s for the sake of his daughter and her husband and constantly pushes the two to embrace their various heritages in their full capacity!

The festival helped the different clans form trading agreements and treaties as well. Since it brought so much of their different cultures together and there was no room for prejudice in the festival with all their leaders (except Ludociel but Mael kept him in line) so friendly towards each other so it allowed for a demand for products form other races to be created which allowed any of the ppl who wanted the trade to happen to overturn any naysayers. Most goddesses are begrudging about demon merchandise, but a few of the more sympathetic clansmen like the goddesses turned druid leaders Zaneri and Jenna as well as Mael himself jump at the chance to learn more about demon culture, rather than deal with Ludociel’s bullshit propaganda

Ban is most certainly about to be punted but it’s all in good fun and he’s doing it cuz he wants ppl to see how amazing and beautiful his Captain is when he’s being a proper demon prince! Dude’s seen his best friend at his lowest and it’s about time Mel stopped hating himself over what race he was born into and started embracing it! Baltra agrees wholeheartedly with Ban in this matter and as do a lot of the other villagers.

Speaking of the villagers, the humans are all amazed and winderstruck at the different designs, styles, and foods form each of the races. Mos live simple lives and blindly trust propaganda and prejudices against the different clans but since getting both a goddess and a demon as their rulers (especially considering who that demon is) most have become more open minded and are reaping the benefits! And their own trading stock are going fast as well!

Bruh, Baltra would even go as far as to hire a demon chef to cook for them since he knows that Mel can’t cook for shit but Baltra also wants to try some food of the demon cuisine (provided it’s not poisonous or dangerous to eat). Zeldris gladly looks for a demon who wants to do that and sends them to Mel, who is confused as hell bc he knows that he didn’t ask for a cook or anything. He lets the demon in regardless and then asks Baltra if he ‘knows anything’. Mel definitely knows that Baltra knows something, but he wants to ask first before jumping to conclusions.

On another occasion, Baltra also invites Mael and any friends of Elizabeth that Mael might know about if they’re willing to come. He believes it will do some good for Elizabeth to spend time with other goddesses, and it does for the most part. What I can see though is Elizabeth feeling a little out of place with the other goddesses. She never followed Ludociels ideology/propaganda, which most other goddesses probably did. And because of that, Elizabeth was a little ostracized from most others, even Sariel and Tarmiel treated her a little condescendingly. And even after saving Derieri and Monspeet from their indura form, 3000 years later they still went back to killing demons and blindly following Ludociel, for a while at least.

For Mel, Baltra become the doting father that he never had. And when Zeldris visits, he makes an effort to make him feel safe and at home too, even if he’s not as used to being among humans as Mel is. Speaking of Baltra being a doting father, he definitely commissioned a huge portrait of Mel in his full demon regalia (with Eli in demon garments by his side as well) and hung it in the hall where everyone could see. Mel is super embarrassed about it and wants to take it down, but Baltra won’t let him, and Eli is on Baltras side too. Likewise, Baltra also wanted a painting of Mel and Eli both all dressed up in goddess stuff. Soft feathery clothes and cloaks with minimal embriodery for decoration, but still relatively revealing to allow for all kinds of movement (especially with wings) while still keeping the wearer warm is more the goddess style. Eli is the focus of that one, with Mel by her side.

Baltra hangs both portraits in the great hall, and Mel and Eli are a little embarrassed about it, though Eli doesn’t mind them hanging there. Mel argues against his portrait though that it doesn’t really represent him at all, which every single person he asks disagrees with. They saw him as the demon prince that he is and that image is burned into everyones minds forever. There are even public demands for Mel to wear his demon regalia more often, and Baltra is in full support of them.

Meliodas: And, uh, what are you doing here?

Demon Chef: I was hired to come here. King Zeldris says hi.

Meliodas: It was the old king wasn’t it…

Demon Chef: I have orders to neither confirm nor deny that question.

Meliodas isn’t fooled at all and definitely goes to Baltra asking him why he keeps bringing more and more demon things into his castle. Baltra just tells him he was curious about demonic cuisine and then tells him he hired a royal painter to commission two portraits of him and Elizabeth in their respective races’ ceremonial outfits. “Consider it a birthday gift for me.” Meliodas just thinks he wants to see him looking all pretty again and protests but unfortunately Ellie walked in and heard the whole thing and thought it was a great idea!

Baltra is definitely a very doting father figure towards Meliodas. Before they were somewhat distant, rivals even when it came to Elizabeth (the both of them were very jealous of Elizabeth being affectionate to the other even if in two different contexts when she was younger, Baltra’s wife found it hilarious) but now Baltra is throwing all his parental instincts into the ring to try and care for Meliodas since it’s become clear that this guy has never had a decent parental figure in his life with only Demon Gowther as a possible exception. Meliodas is very concerned but can’t help but soak up the parental bonding. Zeldris is even more weak to it when Baltra does this and has called him Dad on occasion, something he’ll take to the grave with him.

The portraits become a very popular addition to the castle and many come from all around to see them and if their lucky they’ll get to see the real thing because Baltra is still finding excuses to dress Mel up. He event commissions seamstresses and clothes makers from all the races for this endeavor so he’ll have more things to dress him up in

Baltra forces invites Mel and Eli to travel to all the different races to better understand their culture. As a result of that and also Mel just being Mel, he becomes insanely popular with everyone of the other races. Even the goddesses (especially the younger ones) like him. Independant of each other, and unbeknownst to Mel, each race sorta builds their own little Mel shrine, complete with portraits of him in the different traditional garments. And everyone agrees that Mel looks really pretty in legit everything.

The new demon chefs recipes are a hit in the castle. Them and the human chef instantly hit it off, and create a few entirely new dishes they want Meliodas to try, not just because he’s their beloved king/royal, but also because he’s probably the only being in existence familiar with both demon AND human cuisine. And Baltra of course wants to be there for every taste test. He’s eager to learn every bit of demon culture he can, and he also wants to see Mel just interacting with his own culture after being completely cut off from it for so long. Eli is also always there to support Mel, who still feels a little awkward about everyone loving him so much. He doesn’t mind being cheered on and such, since he can easily hide his awkwardness behind a smile, but he feels a little more vulnerable when he’s actively showing that he’s a demon. 3000 years of hiding can really mess with you.

Whenever the sins visit, they always comment on how beautiful Mel and Eli look in the big paintings in the hall. And they always bring up the big culture exchange festival, with the fashion event where everyone saw Mel in his regalia for the first time. Mel still blushes everytime they bring it up, making him look even cuter. Diane and King always bring loads of fruit from the fairy realm and spices from the giants for the human and demon chef to use, who are ecstatic. King, upon request from Baltra, also regularly brings new clothes for Mel to wear. He’s overjoyed to be able to make something special for his beloved captain, so King spares no expense, and Diane helps him as well with design and material-gathering.

Like they’d all say it’s fine and they just wanna help but he wouldn’t allow for that because he cares for his staff.
