I had this idea where Riddle has this older sister named Marianne, whoās based on Mirana from the live-action films of Alice in Wonderland.
Marianne is older than Riddle by a year, around the same age as Trey actually. Trey also becomes a love interest to Marianne.
Marianne is one of a set of OCs I've had in mind right now. She's considered to be a magic prodigy who ended up becoming her aunt's apprentice and mostly studied magic under her instead of her mother, which led her to have a mostly different upbringing because she learned from someone else.
Her aunt from her father's side, Alicia, is another character from this set of OCs. Despite coming from a family of doctors, she's actually a head researcher in a very prestigious and clandestine magical research organization called the Crystal Spire.
I'll explain more about the Crystal Spire in another post. But its basically this prestigious but secretive magical organization that's older than STYX.
Marianne is considered to be the complete opposite of her rigid and strict family. While she remains disciplined and intelligent, as a Rosehearts should be, she is much more approachable. In their town, she is considered to be a beautiful and graceful young lady who is kind, gentle, and elegant-- lovely like a white rose.
Marianne's quite a polymath. She excels at magical theory, analysis, potionology, alchemy, magical engineering, astrology...
Aside from being inspired by Mirana, she's also inspired by Alice from Genshin Impact.
Alicia, her aunt, is also inspired by Alice as well. Hence the name, lol.
Some of Marianne's lore:
Alicia first witnessed Marianne's magical talent when she was 7 years old, at this time, Marianne was still being homeschooled by her mother. Seeing her talent and great magic reserves, Alicia insisted to her parents that she take Marianne under her wing as an apprentice and that she start learning alongside her in the Crystal Spire.
Mrs. Rosehearts was ecstatic at first. Her daughter was just revered as a rare talent and was going to be taught by a magical researcher from the prestigious Crystal Spire, so of course, she immediately agreed to it and even hoped in the future that her youngest, Riddle, would have the same opportunity as well.
However, learning in the Crystal Spire inspired a lot of things in Marianne. She was already naturally inquisitive and curious, however, thanks to Alicia's influence, she also became quite adventurous and open-minded. Alicia taught her in a way that was different from her mother. She took her to different labs within the Crystal Spire, had her accompany her to other labs across the country, and there was even a time when they visited a magical institute abroad!
All of these experiences, at such a young age, inspired Marianne so much that whenever she was at home, she would share these stories to her parents and here little brother, Riddle, who absolutely adored her and the stories she shared.
Mrs. Rosehearts liked that her daughter was a magical prodigy, however, what she didn't like was the fact that she was being too...free-spirited. Their mother let her be her aunt's apprentice because she had hoped that it would aid her in the future, and while Marianne truly did grow, it wasn't in the way she wanted. She was starting to welcome these new ideas of adventurousness and experimentation-- rather than strictly working towards her future, sticking to the rules and tradition, and studying to become a successful, accomplished doctor. Because of this, Marianne started talking back to her, telling her that simply sticking to a strict routine of studying every hour wouldn't teach her everything, and even tried to rope Riddle into it!
Mrs. Rosehearts was rather horrified one day when she went home to Marianne teaching Riddle how to create magical bombs that exploded flower petals when you threw them in the air. Marianne was scolded and grounded for a week because of this. When Alicia visited to pick Marianne up for her lessons, Mrs. Rosehearts told her that she would no longer teach her daughter because of her 'rebellious' behavior. Alicia, refusing to give up on Marianne's talent, ended up arguing with her. This also eventually led to an argument between Mrs. Rosehearts and Mr. Rosehearts, the latter, who had been quite partial to Marianne's growth under his sister.
Thanks to her father's defense, Marianne was able to remain Alicia's apprentice and continued to learn magic from her. However, because of how Marianne was turning out, she kept a tighter reign on Riddle.
Despite their differences, Marianne doesn't hate her mother. Sure, she was suffocating and rigid, and they often disagreed on a lot of things, but Marianne still held that faint hope that maybe one day her mother would change.
When Marianne suggested that Riddle study in the Crystal Spire with her, their mother firmly argued against it, and it was never brought again. Their mother wanted Riddle to be perfect according to her standards, and she became even more overbearing because of it.
Marianne felt bad for her beloved little brother, because he wouldn't get the chance to experience all the things she did as a child. A part of her truly hoped that they would get to explore the world together, but those hopes were crushed by the fact that their mother refused to loosen her hold on Riddle.
Marianne managed to master her signature spell at 8 years old. A year after she became Alicia's student. Then, at age 10, she became the youngest member to ever join the Crystal Spire as an official apprentice.
Marianne and Riddle:
Marianne and Riddle are extremely close. In fact, when Riddle got banned from spending time with Trey and Chenya, Marianne served as a middle-man for them and often delivered messages to them on Riddle's behalf. As children, Riddle often felt lonely when Marianne was away with Alicia, but he was always the first to welcome her back whenever she came home. He always listened eagerly for her stories and loved it whenever she taught him new things.
He also loved it when she was the one tutoring her on some of his lessons. Marianne had always been a faster learner than him, so she picked up on magical concepts and theories pretty quickly, and she could even do practical magic with ease!
Riddle trusted and loved Marianne, enough for him to confess to her that he would sneak out during independent study to play with his friends. Delighted by the thought of Riddle socializing and having fun, Marianne agreed to keep it a secret. He even introduced her to Trey and Chenya after she came home from one of her trips to the Crystal Spire.
As a child, Riddle always considered Marianne as his role model. Not only was she a talented magician at a young age, she was also kind and understanding, even the people in town loved her! He'd often hoped that he would be like her.
However, as he got older, and the stricter their mother became over him, Riddle was forced to keep that thought to himself. Their mother was more controlling with him because she said she didn't want him to be as lax with the rules as Marianne became. If he so much as showed interest in Marianne's affairs, his mother would scold him about it.
"Marianne is talented, but she has become so spoiled ever since she became Alicia's apprentice! You must never become like her!" She said.
Marianne was already excellent, what was so wrong with her being a bit carefree? It's not like she was neglecting her studies...
But of course, Riddle couldn't say that out loud. He simply nodded at his mother and continued on with his lessons...
CLOSE UPS:
I'm still fleshing her character out, but that's most of the stuff I have for her. I'll make a character profile for her some time in the future lol I just wanted to let this out
