"Yeah, they really get started on merch early these days." She couldn't help but laugh as she stood; as soon as she saw Odette approaching, she had reached for the covering she brought to cover her table while she was gone and pulled it over, putting up a sign that said 'out to lunch.' Queen Anne willingly let Val put her harness and leash on her.
"Aw, thank you." Val took the button, looking at it for a couple moments before putting it in her bag and putting her bag over her shoulder. "Come on, I'll go introduce you to the people I mentioned earlier."
"I'm going to end up needing a whole suitcase by the end of this trip. My room is going to be redecorated." She giggled, bouncing on her heels. Made her wish she had tried doing this much sooner.
"Okay~ yay! I even get to hang around royalty." She grinned down at Queen Anne.
“Yeah, the geeks can get surprisingly wild,” Val said with a laugh. Queen Anne stood, bumping against Odette’s hand.
“We’ll see you in a couple hours. Try not to get caught.”
"I'll try my best, maybe I need to find a mask or big hat to help my disguise be complete." She waved and headed away. It was exciting getting to do things without having it be approved first. There were so many purchases made, Odette ended up getting some bags too. A large portion of her time was spent walking wide eyed through the artist alley. Getting several fan pieces of characters she had played before.
By time she returned to Val's booth, she had her arms stuffed and a sweater with a cartoon character face on the hood she could zip up if needed. "Guess whaaaat, I found these cute buttons for the movie we've been making. I didn't know there would already be fans of it. There was um, a lot of creative stuff over there. I got you this little pretty kitty pin~."
"I meeeeeean, I meant when the con floor closes," Val said with a laugh. "I'm probably going to the after party tomorrow night, but once things close for the day today, I won't have much to do besides hang out in the hotel."
She glanced to Queen Anne, who was rolling around on the table. "Things usually calm down in here when the panels start. How about you come back in a couple hours? I'll be able to run off for a bit to roam around and grab lunch."
"I heard those parties get very crazy. The VIP ones especially. That's where all the scandals happen." So of course she was never allowed near them. "If my father's meetings drag on long enough, maybe I'll get to hang out with you after all. It would be a lot more fun than practicing my scripted answers for tomorrow."
Giving Queen Anne another head rub, she grinned. "I'm going to see how many more silly things I can get before swinging by again."
"Aw, I was kind of hoping this meant we could hang out," Val said. "If you're looking for more cool booths, there's one a couple rows over that's selling replica jewelry. The guy who makes all the weapons for the city guard is helping out since it's his apprentice."
"Oh, you'd want to hang out? I thought you might be busy with your booth." Giving her plushie a hug, she tilted her head. "If you happen to get a break, maybe we could go check out the cool jewelry booth together. I bet Queen Anne would look lovely in some~"
"Her suitcase is bigger than mine." Val rolled her eyes but it was all in good fun. "Brought about six different costumes for her to pick from for the weekend. That one's her favorite."
Queen Anne was happy to rub against Odette's hand, purring for her.
"Sooooo does that mean you'll need to go back to your room after this?"
"Yeah, my sister is at the hotel to be my look out and distraction. She said she'd send me a warning text for when I need to make it back." Once she seemed to be warming up, Odette started rubbing at her cheeks cooing softly about what a pretty kitty she was.
"There are just so many cool booths, no wonder its multiple days."
"It's just that I see you basically every day so it's kind of hard not to recognize you," Val said. "The costume's pretty good, though. I'm guessing that means you're here attending instead of as a guest, huh?"
Queen Anne jumped onto the table, stretching out to Odette.
"She wants you to pet her."
"Well... sort of. If anyone asks, I'm in the hotel room resting." She held a finger up to her lips with a wink. "I have a Q & A panel tomorrow, but until then I can sneak around and check things out~"
Pausing, Odette's eyes sparkled. "Oohhhh, the Queen herself!" Her hand carefully reached out. Letting her sniff before she even dared to start petting. "Wow, her fur is like silk!!!"

Despite how nerve-wracking getting ready for a convention could be, Val still was far less stressed than in her regular job. If she thought this could pay the bills, she’d do it full time. Alas, she hadn’t reached that point, at least yet.
The floor was in full swing when Anne stretched and stood in her chair, making noises in the direction of someone walking by, giant prop sword in one hand and plushie in the other arm. It took a moment, but as soon as the person reached her table, Val gasped. “Odette? What are you doing all the way out here?”
"Shhh shhhhh shhhhhh." Covering her face with the plushie, she leaned down towards the table. "No one knows I'm here.... well except my sister. Can't get anything past her though." Peeking around she giggled. "She set me up with the costume. Though I guess it's not a very good disguise if you figured it out huh?"
“Hmm, less an army and more of an entourage. After all, army implies I feel like I need the protection, and I’ve already got you for that~” She gave him a wink before going back to her food.
"Cat army would be kinda hard to control. Not the best listeners." At least none of the ones he ever ran into. "You've got me anytime. 'Sides, gotta use that guard trainin' for somethin' at least."
“Well, you would know best.” Gloria considered that as she just admired the river view for a moment. “I did consider growing catnip for the cats that like hanging around the forest.”
"Planning on starting a cat army are you?" He snorted. "You're gonna have em all just rollin' around in your yard. Guess that would be one way to find one you might want to keep around."
“Well, I can test it tomorrow after we’ve got everything moved in.”
As soon as the curry was done, Gloria made plates for both of them and led the way to the backyard. “And plenty of room back here. Plus if it gets hot, I can just go and jump in the river.”
He made a low whistle, taking a bite as he looked around. "Wow, you really lucked out on this place. It's got a little bit of everything. Ya know if you ever wanna try growin' somethin' out here the soil looks pretty set for it."
Of course, Gloria had an official inspection done before she bought and knew there wasn't anything seriously wrong with the house, but it was cute seeing him wander around, looking at everything.
"Right, right." She finished chopping vegetables as he looked around. Once everything was in the pan, she turned to him. "Looks like the stove works fine."
"That's a plus." He moved to watch over her shoulder. "No smoke, no explosions, no weird noises." Resting his chin on her once he had a good enough look. "I'd hope that means the oven is good too then."
"Look at you, already making a list like you own the place." Her voice was teasing as she got out what she needed to start. "Well, I did say you're welcome to stay here as much as you want, so go ahead and look around."
He rubbed the back of his neck, cheeks turning pink. "Well I gotta make sure everything is top quality for my girlfriend of course. Don't worry, I'm not about to start movin' into your space." He adored her and wanted to spend every waking moment at her side, but he was also trying to behave. Being clingy was probably a bad look. She was still trying to figure herself out, he didn't want to be overbearing. "Just doin' a lil important house inspection for ya."
"Yup. I plan on heading into Forte City to get some of what I want for decorations, so if I need to replace anything I should do it now." She pressed a kiss to his cheek. "How about some veggie curry? I'm feeling like I need something spicy."
"Sounds good to me, ya know I eat just about anything." He walked around her kitchen. Opening cabinets and drawers. "Decent room. These hinges could use a lil love and the oven isn't level, but should be easy fixes. I can get some tools from home later and bring it over. Might need it for some of the furniture anyway."
"And I'm sure I'll have plenty of fun watching you flex those big arms of yours~" She grinned and reached up to squeeze one of them before pressing a kiss to his cheek. "I do have the cookware my parents got me, though, and I already got food in here. Why don't we see how the kitchen does?"
"I'll try to put on a good show for you." He laughed, tilting her head back towards him for a kiss before letting her go. "Gotta make sure all the appliances work right. Better to find out now than later after you got a bunch of stuff in here."
"I considered it, but all I have for my bed right now is the mattress. It seems a little... weird to just sleep on a mattress on the floor." She smiled and shrugged. "We can get things in tonight and wait for the delivery tomorrow morning."
"Riiiight, very weird. Who would do that? Psshh." He would. Well did. Gloria would probably have shuddered to see how stupid he lived the moment he was on his own for the first time.
"I got the day tomorrow cleared out, these arms are for you to command." A grin spread on his face as he flexed a muscle. "I'll move around the furniture wherever you want it."
"Well, we'll have plenty opportunity to try that out." She nudged him again before putting her box down and reaching into one of the pockets on her skirt and unlocking the door.
"Here we are." The walls were white, and the floors were mostly hardwood from what could be seen from the entryway. "...maybe some rugs, too. And paint the walls."
"Big ol' blank canvas for you to turn into your cozy get away." He sat down the box he had been holding and then moved to wrap an arm around her shoulders. "It'll take some time to become a home, but I look forward to see what you do with the place."
He paused and cupped a hand around his mouth to let out a long hello. Waiting to hear it bounce back to him. "Dang you're gonna hear like every creak and gust of wind in here. Rugs will help though for sure. You gonna stay here tonight or wait until the furniture shows up?""
