the sforza family have ruled milan for the past seven years. the title comes from bartolomeoâs motherâs side of the family but when his grandfather died without a male heir, the title went to bartolomeoâs father.Â
bartolomeo was born in abruzzo as tensions were high between his maternal grandfather and his father due to a political divide. as the second-born son, bartolomeo (at the age of three) was sent to be raised by his grandfather in the hopes that it might reconcile the two. however, it was not till later in his grandfatherâs life that this was achieved.
his grandfather was not the kindest of men yet showed affection for his grandson â especially as he did not have a son of his own. bartolomeo received the highest education possible and shadowed the duke, who was known for his great political mind.Â
whilst bartolomeo was extremely loyal to the visconti line, he did not share the cruelty that his grandfather possessed. preferring to be merciful when possible, and charity to those in the city. this is mostly because of his god-fearing nature; raised a devout catholic.
