Open (CoD x Rdr2) rp starter

CWs: Bar setting, may feature themes related to violence or outlaw behavior.

(I don’t play much so I’ll go bartender-)

The bartender —known for being able to fight off thugs if they cause any trouble— was currently behind the counter as always, prepping some drinks- wiping down glasses. Shoulders tense with his eyes darting ‘round from time to time subtly to ensure there were no signs of a possible fight happening. Was always an intimidating guy, tho much of a charmer- people still tended to be wary of him from the height alone…. Tho it usually took only about a few words into conversation for most to calm down.

he takes his hat off like he always does, playing his head in his own arms “Artemisss” he hummed “ye’ got my usual ready for me yet? M’ parched.”

The man would pause before humming, a hand grabbing the specific drink he’d always order “Got it right here.” He’d say, tone amused and soft as usual as he leaned over to grab glass before popping open the top and letting it flow.

“Tough day?”

”Just worked related shit,” he mumbles, taking it graciously, raising it to the other man before bringing it to his own lips. He sighs in contentment, letting the glass clink down to the counter. “Anythin’ interestin’ happening t’ you lately?”

He’d hum before shaking his head “No, nothin’ really. No one’s been causin’ any trouble.” He’d say, looking a bit relieved.

“Although, there have been a few new faces, still gauging what type of people they are, tho.”

“That’s good then,” he grins “if anyone has though, you know who to talk to” he pauses for a moment, before chuckling.

“Pfft, if I DO end up callin’ ya, you’re gon’be concerned. Because usually- I could handle things myself.” He mused, grabbing a clean glass and wiping before pouring him another drink once he finished his current one. “So the moment I DO ask for help, usually it means something big came up…. Or it’s too dangerous to handle on m’own.”

“Aye, don’t underestimate me! Have faith in your good friend, would you, sir?” He laughs “Not many things concern me, I’m very easy going” he grins

“Oh but I do have faith in you.” He mused as he moved around to prep the drinks for other patrons “I would not be going to you for help on serious matters, if I did not have faith in your skill.” He’d say bluntly as he placed a glass for someone else who’d ordered

Shelling taps the counter lightly, in thought. “You ever think about how long you’re gonna keep doin’ this?” he asks casually, though clearly paying attention to the answer

Artemis would pause before looking over with a small tilt of is head “What d’ya mean, bud?” He’d ask, placing down a clean glass and leaning on the counter. “I enjoy bein’ a bartender. Don’t see myself stoppin’ anytime soon.”

“Don’t ye’ get bored, cooped up in a dark, wooden, smelly bar surrounded by drunkards all day and night? Don’t wanna go out, see the world?”

“Pfft….” Artemis stopped himself from laughing “Well, it’s safer than goin’ on out there.” He mused

“I quite like…. Living peacefully”

“What’s wrong with living dangerously for a bit?” he frowns “you could ride with me for a few days, I’ll keep ye’ safe. Get ye’ home unscathed.” He offers with a hopeful smile

He’d tilt his head and hum “Aye, but ya know how dangerous it is, things could be…. Unpredictable.” He said as he prepared a drink for another patron

“I know my way around” he rest his fist “whad’ya say?”

Artemis would sigh as he served the drink, leaning onto the counter with a tilted head still, looking exasperated “You’re not goin to let me refuse, are you?”

”nah” he smiles

Artemis shakes his head, looking a tad amused

“Alright, alright— fine. But only for a few days.”

He muttered

“Great, we can leave tomorrow morning, I’ll pick you up at your home.” He grins

Artemis nods quietly, already in thought of who he could leave the bar to in the meantime

The next morning, crack of dawn, Shelling rolls around Artemis’s home on his horse

Artemis was in his backyard, tending to a few of the plants there. Humming quietly to himself as he checked on them

His own horse, a shire named ‘Odyssey’ was nudging him from behind— snorting quietly before perking up and trotting over to the end of the fence to huff at Shelling & his horse

(He could either ride alongside Shelling or ride on Shelling’s horse too— depends on how you’d want it to play out-)

He gets off his horse, Lottie, a sleek, mostly solid beige colored turkoman with a brown gradient traveling down her legs to her hooves.

He pats Odyssey as he walks over to Artemis, kicking his back.

“Aye,”

Odyssey snorts, watching beside Lottie—

Odyssey himself was a rather BIG Blue Roan Shire, tho despite his size- he was a rather fast one.

Artemis grunted at the kick, huffing out a quiet ‘oi, could’ve just said a hello instead of that-‘ as he stood up, wiping off dirt from his hands and clothing using a towel

“You ready do go yet? We can ride down to Saint Denis, spend a night or two in Rhodes..you ever been to Saint Denis? Nice town, big, clean, lotta police around, as safe as you can get.” He grins “you’d want that, right?”

“Pfft, sure….” Artemis mused- patting Odyssey’s head as the big horse walked over

“So, you all packed and such? I can wait a bit longer if you’ve still got stuff to prepare. You’ve got a nice horse, how much weight can he carry?”

“About 230kg if I want him to still be able to run ‘round comfortably.” He mused as he patted Odyssey’s head “Big fella he is, even for his breed.” (Yep, he’s bigger than a normal shire)

He nods, impressed. “Let’s get going, out him t’ work.” He hips onto Lottie

Artemis shrugged, nodding quietly. He headed off to his porch, grabbing the saddle there (it had some bags connected to it) and strapping it onto Odyssey… who frankly didn’t seem to mind. Then he grabbed his satchel, put it on and hopped onto Odyssey’s back- hands finding his reins

The two of them ride out, it doesn’t take long before Artemis has lost sight of valentine, they’ve gotten up to some mountain ranges now, trotting across wooded trails.

Artemis seemed to relax more when they were int he more green/foresty areas— a hand reaching up to briefly touch the leaves of branches they pass by. Odyssey not really needing much directing since he just trailed after Lottie calmly

“Hmmm, remind me of my ma’s old garden….”

“Was it nice?” He calls back, not paying much attention

“It was, yes. Learned some herbology from her back then.” He muttered, pattinf Odyssey’s flank to walk side-by side with Shelling

“What’d you two grow? I remember when I was younger my ma used to grow tomatoes and such,”

“We had an orchard, it was mostly apples and lemons.” He mused “other than that, there were a few berries and flowers….” He mumbled

“She still alive?” He pauses “sorry”

He pauses, shaking his head “No, died of sickness a while back.” He muttered

“Awe, I’m sorry, if it makes you feel better my parents ain’t alive either.” A small silence, before he changes the topic “Whend ye start bartending?”

“When I turned 18, wanted somethin’ to do and, well…. The old bartender took interest in how good I was with my hands when tending to plants or playin’ round with knives.” He mused “Took me in as an apprentice n’taught me the basics, rest was some I learned on my own when he died n’left the bar ta me.”

He nods “nice, my pa taught me how to shoot n wrangle” a long pause, he contemplates for a moment before going slowly, “I’ve just been uh, takin all sorts of jobs since then.”

Artemis nodded, watching him “My pa was…. Shitty, ta say the least.” He muttered “Don’t like talkin’ bout that asshole.”

(Yes, m’making his mom good in this bcs I think Artemis deserves a break)

“Ma taught me how to shoot tho, but she uh…. Only knew how for a bow.” He shrugged

“I haven’t shot a bow in quite a while,” he chuckles “some o my buddies do, try to get me t hunt with em”

“I hunt, from…. Time to time.” He shrugged “Just not much time to do so lately.”

“We could go hunting once we find a place to set up camp” he grins

“Pfft, sure— tho you might be surprised.” He mused, leaning forward and resting his body on Odyssey’s neck…. The horse did not seem to mind

After another while of riding, the two find a nice, flat spot over looking a wide field, a herd of cows grazing in it

Artemis looked around for a bit before getting off of Odyssey—

Who…. Simply decided to sit down on the grass

“Bet we could spend the rest of the day here, get back in the road tomorrow morning?” He said, already unloading stuff off Lottie

“Aye” he said, nodding his head as he unloaded some of the bags on Odyssey’s saddle

After unpacking all their necessities, the duo climb down the hill to track through the tall grass of the field, shotguns in hands.

Artemis…. Surprisingly held the gun with familiarity. Then again, the bar DID have a shotgun at the ready for any time

They shoot one of the cows, the beast going down with a thump that sends the rest to go running. Though, they don’t need more than one anyways

“Think anyone owns these?” He asked, crouching down

“Maybe, maybe not” he shrugs, taking his knife out to skin the thing, “too late to consider it now anyways,”

He shrugged “Fair point….” He muttered, watching Shelling quietly

It takes him a minute or two to get the skin off, handing some of it over to Artemis as he starts on cutting out some meaty parts to eat.

Artemis takes the skin, looking through it and humming “I might clean this up…”

“I usually sell it, y’know anything about leatherwork?”

He nodded awkwardly “Aye, I know a thing or two ‘bout leatherwork. M’better at taxidermy, tho.”

He raises a brow “taxidermy? Where’d ye learn that from?”

He rubbed at the fur awkwardly as he replied “Ehh…. It was a small hobby, since I was a kid.” He shrugged quietly “my old man loved huntin’ but he didn’t really know how to put the bodies to good use. He was all just…. Shot n’go. Fuck, I hated him. I had to learn to skin, cut and preserve mahself…. One of the things I loved was…. Taxidermy.”

He doesn’t say anything else as he finishes up with the corpse.

The two cook the meat over a fire, the suns set and the horses are grazing in the field, staying close

Artemis had taken the skin, carefully cleaning it up and prepping it

Ryan was finishing up his meal, coming up behind Artemis to watch him work

Artemis was busy, meticulously cleaning everything up, ensuring everything he needed was there and what he didn’t need was taken off

” you gonna sell it?”

“Maybe, or I might use it as design for the bar….”

“You could turn it into a vest, or maybe a glue the bar..?”

He shrugged “Or mount it on the wall….” He muttered, nodding to the side to the skull he’d cleaned up

“Yiu gonna go to bed any time soon? We’ve gotta ride tomorrow.”

It took a few more hours til Artemis headed off to sleep eventually— after he finished prepping everything

The two men get back on the trail early next morning, theres a storm rolling in, sitting inches off the horizon and moving fast. “I reckon we’ve got maybe an hour or two before the storm comes in,” shelling remarks from his horse, “We should be able to get to Rhodes by then, or we can find somewhere else to stay”

“Hmm, we’ll need to move fast, then.”

It begins sprinkling about 5 minutes later, then dribbling…then full on raining. The horses are miserable, and all their stuff is getting wet, and Rhodes is still miles away.

Artemis…. Didn’t seem to mind much, eyeing his bags from time to time as he pat Odyssey’s hair “We’re gonna have to find cover.”

“I think there might be some farmsteads up ahead, we could take shelter there,”

“You suggestin’ trespassing?” He mused

“It’s not like we’re stealin anything, just two friendly travelers lookin for shelter”

“Well…. True, but y’know how some folks could get.” He said

”I’m sure we can handle whatever old geezer lives down there” he snorts, already veering off the path towards the alleged farmstead

Artemis would sigh, shaking his head but following

The two approach the farmstead, there’s no animals around, probably in the bigger barn on the other side of the decently sized, though rickety looking house overlooking by refilled the farmstead resided in.

Artemis hummed, looking around cautiously

”Relax, nobodies comin’ out here in the middle of a storm” he grumbles as the two arrive at the small building, he gets off his horse.

After another while of riding, the two find a nice, flat spot over looking a wide field, a herd of cows grazing in it

Artemis looked around for a bit before getting off of Odyssey—

Who…. Simply decided to sit down on the grass

“Bet we could spend the rest of the day here, get back in the road tomorrow morning?” He said, already unloading stuff off Lottie

“Aye” he said, nodding his head as he unloaded some of the bags on Odyssey’s saddle

After unpacking all their necessities, the duo climb down the hill to track through the tall grass of the field, shotguns in hands.

Artemis…. Surprisingly held the gun with familiarity. Then again, the bar DID have a shotgun at the ready for any time

They shoot one of the cows, the beast going down with a thump that sends the rest to go running. Though, they don’t need more than one anyways

“Think anyone owns these?” He asked, crouching down

“Maybe, maybe not” he shrugs, taking his knife out to skin the thing, “too late to consider it now anyways,”

He shrugged “Fair point….” He muttered, watching Shelling quietly

It takes him a minute or two to get the skin off, handing some of it over to Artemis as he starts on cutting out some meaty parts to eat.

Artemis takes the skin, looking through it and humming “I might clean this up…”

“I usually sell it, y’know anything about leatherwork?”

He nodded awkwardly “Aye, I know a thing or two ‘bout leatherwork. M’better at taxidermy, tho.”

He raises a brow “taxidermy? Where’d ye learn that from?”

He doesn’t say anything else as he finishes up with the corpse.

The two cook the meat over a fire, the suns set and the horses are grazing in the field, staying close

Artemis had taken the skin, carefully cleaning it up and prepping it

Ryan was finishing up his meal, coming up behind Artemis to watch him work

Artemis was busy, meticulously cleaning everything up, ensuring everything he needed was there and what he didn’t need was taken off

” you gonna sell it?”

“Maybe, or I might use it as design for the bar….”

“You could turn it into a vest, or maybe a glue the bar..?”

He shrugged “Or mount it on the wall….” He muttered, nodding to the side to the skull he’d cleaned up

“I think there might be some farmsteads up ahead, we could take shelter there,”

“It’s not like we’re stealin anything, just two friendly travelers lookin for shelter”

”I’m sure we can handle whatever old geezer lives down there” he snorts, already veering off the path towards the alleged farmstead

I think either Water or Air would fit OWL a lot…. But I’m going with WATER for him. I mean, air could be silent killer, fits Owl’s whole ‘hard to even see, even in plane sight’ vibe— but his movement is more fluid and since he wears a cape, he could be hiding water beneath…. Besides that, I love the chance to give him ice & blood bending. Specially with how I write him out when it comes to him being actually good in torturing and the amount of shit he can do when he snaps, blood bending’s good for torture and who said you can only use it to control bodies? I mean, he’d probably be able to use plant bending which would be useful in forested areas…. BLOOD BENDING WOULD ONLY COME INTO PLAY WHENEVER HE’S LOSING HIMSELF/NOT IN A GOOD HEADSPACE (Mmmm…. Make them explode from the inside out with it, in fact…. Use the blood as a water OOOOO HE CAN USE HIS OWN BLOOD AS A WATER ALTERNATIVE IF PUSH COMES TO SHOVE)

Surprisingly, what I see fitting on GHOST would be Air bending. Funnily enough, since air is something that’s usually seen as ‘free’. It’s hard to associate that term with how I see Ghost with his 09 version’s backstory. Besides that- again: silent but deadly. Pretty sure Ghost is pretty good with the whole stealth thing too, besides— if we really get into it with air bending- I don’t see him being able to fly— but I definitely see him bending the air out of enemies’ lungs or the rooms. Suffocating targets slowly or quickly. Hell, he could just go and use air to blast them high up and die from the fall.

I definitely see KÖNIG with Earth bending tbh, he’s big and ehem— ‘built like a Mountain’ + him practically being a battering ram? Just feels like it fits. Besides those obvious reasons, Earth can become a pretty solitary element— plus if we think of his social anxiety- then maybe he uses his bending as an intimidation tactic to avoid speaking confrontations…. Also, Seismic sense would help A LOT when it comes to operations- specially if he’s an insertion specialist and the ability to tell when someone is lying is pretty damn cool. Do I see him metal bending. Yes. Lava? No, not really….. (Plus he’d be throwing around WEIGHT with earth bending SHEESH)

For HORANGI I see him having Fire Bending reason? None. I just wanted to…. JK! Course there’s a REASON— one of the main reasons for it is because fire can be pretty unpredictable and spontaneous— just as Gambling can be, and according to his bio he is one… very dogshit gambler XD. Besides that, from what voice lines I’ve heard he’s pretty firey (＊side eyeing＊: [RAHHHH LET’S GO!] for that one lol)…. And Horangi also means tiger and something I can see being orange? Hehehe tiger…. I can see him being able to perform lightning bending BUT that it sometimes backfires and using it is a bit of a GAMBLE…. Hehe

The nurse nods and says as she nods towards the direction of the patient rooms. "Follow me then, gonna be quick patch up, if it ain't too deep."

He’d tilt his head and hum “Aye, but ya know how dangerous it is, things could be…. Unpredictable.” He said as he prepared a drink for another patron

He gets off his horse, Lottie, a sleek, mostly solid beige colored turkoman with a brown gradient traveling down her legs to her hooves.

He pats Odyssey as he walks over to Artemis, kicking his back.

“Aye,”

Odyssey himself was a rather BIG Blue Roan Shire, tho despite his size- he was a rather fast one.

Artemis grunted at the kick, huffing out a quiet ‘oi, could’ve just said a hello instead of that-‘ as he stood up, wiping off dirt from his hands and clothing using a towel

“Pfft, sure….” Artemis mused- patting Odyssey’s head as the big horse walked over

“So, you all packed and such? I can wait a bit longer if you’ve still got stuff to prepare. You’ve got a nice horse, how much weight can he carry?”

He nods, impressed. “Let’s get going, out him t’ work.” He hips onto Lottie

The two of them ride out, it doesn’t take long before Artemis has lost sight of valentine, they’ve gotten up to some mountain ranges now, trotting across wooded trails.

“Hmmm, remind me of my ma’s old garden….”

“Was it nice?” He calls back, not paying much attention

“It was, yes. Learned some herbology from her back then.” He muttered, pattinf Odyssey’s flank to walk side-by side with Shelling

“What’d you two grow? I remember when I was younger my ma used to grow tomatoes and such,”

“We had an orchard, it was mostly apples and lemons.” He mused “other than that, there were a few berries and flowers….” He mumbled

It took a few more hours til Artemis headed off to sleep eventually— after he finished prepping everything

“Hmm, we’ll need to move fast, then.”

It begins sprinkling about 5 minutes later, then dribbling…then full on raining. The horses are miserable, and all their stuff is getting wet, and Rhodes is still miles away.

Artemis…. Didn’t seem to mind much, eyeing his bags from time to time as he pat Odyssey’s hair “We’re gonna have to find cover.”

“I think there might be some farmsteads up ahead, we could take shelter there,”

He’d hum before shaking his head “No, nothin’ really. No one’s been causin’ any trouble.” He’d say, looking a bit relieved.

“Although, there have been a few new faces, still gauging what type of people they are, tho.”

“That’s good then,” he grins “if anyone has though, you know who to talk to” he pauses for a moment, before chuckling.

“Aye, don’t underestimate me! Have faith in your good friend, would you, sir?” He laughs “Not many things concern me, I’m very easy going” he grins

Shelling taps the counter lightly, in thought. “You ever think about how long you’re gonna keep doin’ this?” he asks casually, though clearly paying attention to the answer

“Don’t ye’ get bored, cooped up in a dark, wooden, smelly bar surrounded by drunkards all day and night? Don’t wanna go out, see the world?”

“Pfft….” Artemis stopped himself from laughing “Well, it’s safer than goin’ on out there.” He mused

“I quite like…. Living peacefully”

“What’s wrong with living dangerously for a bit?” he frowns “you could ride with me for a few days, I’ll keep ye’ safe. Get ye’ home unscathed.” He offers with a hopeful smile

He’d tilt his head and hum “Aye, but ya know how dangerous it is, things could be…. Unpredictable.” He said as he prepared a drink for another patron

“I know my way around” he rest his fist “whad’ya say?”

Artemis would sigh as he served the drink, leaning onto the counter with a tilted head still, looking exasperated “You’re not goin to let me refuse, are you?”

”nah” he smiles

“Alright, alright— fine. But only for a few days.”

“Great, we can leave tomorrow morning, I’ll pick you up at your home.” He grins

Artemis nods quietly, already in thought of who he could leave the bar to in the meantime

The next morning, crack of dawn, Shelling rolls around Artemis’s home on his horse

Artemis was in his backyard, tending to a few of the plants there. Humming quietly to himself as he checked on them

His own horse, a shire named ‘Odyssey’ was nudging him from behind— snorting quietly before perking up and trotting over to the end of the fence to huff at Shelling & his horse

(He could either ride alongside Shelling or ride on Shelling’s horse too— depends on how you’d want it to play out-)

He gets off his horse, Lottie, a sleek, mostly solid beige colored turkoman with a brown gradient traveling down her legs to her hooves.

He pats Odyssey as he walks over to Artemis, kicking his back.

“Aye,”

Odyssey snorts, watching beside Lottie—

Odyssey himself was a rather BIG Blue Roan Shire, tho despite his size- he was a rather fast one.

Artemis grunted at the kick, huffing out a quiet ‘oi, could’ve just said a hello instead of that-‘ as he stood up, wiping off dirt from his hands and clothing using a towel

“Pfft, sure….” Artemis mused- patting Odyssey’s head as the big horse walked over

“So, you all packed and such? I can wait a bit longer if you’ve still got stuff to prepare. You’ve got a nice horse, how much weight can he carry?”

He nods, impressed. “Let’s get going, out him t’ work.” He hips onto Lottie

The two of them ride out, it doesn’t take long before Artemis has lost sight of valentine, they’ve gotten up to some mountain ranges now, trotting across wooded trails.

“Hmmm, remind me of my ma’s old garden….”

“Was it nice?” He calls back, not paying much attention

“It was, yes. Learned some herbology from her back then.” He muttered, pattinf Odyssey’s flank to walk side-by side with Shelling

“What’d you two grow? I remember when I was younger my ma used to grow tomatoes and such,”

“We had an orchard, it was mostly apples and lemons.” He mused “other than that, there were a few berries and flowers….” He mumbled

“She still alive?” He pauses “sorry”

He pauses, shaking his head “No, died of sickness a while back.” He muttered

“Awe, I’m sorry, if it makes you feel better my parents ain’t alive either.” A small silence, before he changes the topic “Whend ye start bartending?”

He nods “nice, my pa taught me how to shoot n wrangle” a long pause, he contemplates for a moment before going slowly, “I’ve just been uh, takin all sorts of jobs since then.”

Artemis nodded, watching him “My pa was…. Shitty, ta say the least.” He muttered “Don’t like talkin’ bout that asshole.”

(Yes, m’making his mom good in this bcs I think Artemis deserves a break)

“Ma taught me how to shoot tho, but she uh…. Only knew how for a bow.” He shrugged

“I haven’t shot a bow in quite a while,” he chuckles “some o my buddies do, try to get me t hunt with em”

“I hunt, from…. Time to time.” He shrugged “Just not much time to do so lately.”

“We could go hunting once we find a place to set up camp” he grins

“Pfft, sure— tho you might be surprised.” He mused, leaning forward and resting his body on Odyssey’s neck…. The horse did not seem to mind

After another while of riding, the two find a nice, flat spot over looking a wide field, a herd of cows grazing in it

Artemis looked around for a bit before getting off of Odyssey—

Who…. Simply decided to sit down on the grass

“Bet we could spend the rest of the day here, get back in the road tomorrow morning?” He said, already unloading stuff off Lottie

“Aye” he said, nodding his head as he unloaded some of the bags on Odyssey’s saddle

After unpacking all their necessities, the duo climb down the hill to track through the tall grass of the field, shotguns in hands.

Artemis…. Surprisingly held the gun with familiarity. Then again, the bar DID have a shotgun at the ready for any time

They shoot one of the cows, the beast going down with a thump that sends the rest to go running. Though, they don’t need more than one anyways

“Think anyone owns these?” He asked, crouching down

“Maybe, maybe not” he shrugs, taking his knife out to skin the thing, “too late to consider it now anyways,”

He shrugged “Fair point….” He muttered, watching Shelling quietly

It takes him a minute or two to get the skin off, handing some of it over to Artemis as he starts on cutting out some meaty parts to eat.

Artemis takes the skin, looking through it and humming “I might clean this up…”

“I usually sell it, y’know anything about leatherwork?”

He nodded awkwardly “Aye, I know a thing or two ‘bout leatherwork. M’better at taxidermy, tho.”

He raises a brow “taxidermy? Where’d ye learn that from?”

He doesn’t say anything else as he finishes up with the corpse.

The two cook the meat over a fire, the suns set and the horses are grazing in the field, staying close

Artemis had taken the skin, carefully cleaning it up and prepping it

Ryan was finishing up his meal, coming up behind Artemis to watch him work

Artemis was busy, meticulously cleaning everything up, ensuring everything he needed was there and what he didn’t need was taken off

” you gonna sell it?”

“Maybe, or I might use it as design for the bar….”

“You could turn it into a vest, or maybe a glue the bar..?”

He shrugged “Or mount it on the wall….” He muttered, nodding to the side to the skull he’d cleaned up

“Yiu gonna go to bed any time soon? We’ve gotta ride tomorrow.”
