لهذا أصارح القارئ بأني لم أسترح قط لعبارة مثل " تجديد الإسلام " أو " الإسلام المستنير " فالإسلام لا يتجدد وإنما الذي يتجدد تفسير الناس له وما يفهمونه منه ، ومن ثم فالمقصود هو تجديد التدين ، أي طريقة فهم الدين.

بهذا النص الصريح ختم جلال أمين مذكراته:

في الأول كنت بقرأ لجلال أمين بصفته مؤرخ شاهد على العصر وراجل عالم اقتصاد فاهم علاقة الحراك الاجتماعي بسياسات كل عصر، إنما مع الكتاب الرابع له ابتديت احسن إنه مش حيادي خالص، بالعكس عنده كذا bias تخليني مثقش في تحليله زي ما كنت فاكر.

الانحياز الأول هو انحياز اجتماعي للطبقة اللي كان بينتمي ليها هو وعيلته، واللي فقدت كل امتيازاتها تقريبًا في عصر السادات. وده واضح في كراهيته الشديدة للسادات وكل ما يتعلق بعصره، حتى في إحدى المقالات في الكتاب ده عبر عن مقته لشخص السادات نفسه مش حتى كـ حاكم أو رئيس جمهورية.

الانحياز التاني هو انحياز سياسي لكونه ناصري قديم وشايف إن أخطاء عبد الناصر كانت حاجات ثانوية هيتغاضى عنها التاريخ مع الوقت وهيفتكر بطولاته فقط زي ما حصل مع محمد علي (الحتة دي ضحكتني اوي خصوصاً إنه كان بيتنبأ بكده في أوائل التسعينات، كويس إنه محضرش عصر تحول عبناصر إلى نكتة).

الإنحياز التالت هو نظرته للخليج والإسلاميين، عشان تفهم فكر وفلسفة حد مينفعش تبص عليهم من فوق وتفنط فيهم بمزاجك، مينفعش تعتبر نفسك أحسن منهم وتناقش قضاياهم بتعالي أو دونية، مينفعش تعتبرهم محدثين عن العصر، خصوصاً لو هما كمان بينعتوك بنفس الصفة. كل ده هيخلي حكمك عليهم مش حيادي، خصوصاً إن ده كان الشائع من المثقفين المصريين وقتها، ولحد دلوقتي لما بيجوا يحللوا الحراك الاجتماعي في سبعينيات مصر والصراع بين الانفتاح والوهابية، بين تعاصر فساتين جوتشي القصيرة مع دخول الحجاب والنقاب مصر، كونهم biased خلى معظمهم يفشل في فهم التحول ده، وهو شيفت غريب بصراحة عاذرهم.

وفي الاخير جلال أمين مفكر تقيل وكتاباته -وإن شابها التكرار- تستاهل تتقرا خصوصاً كتابيّ "ماذا علمتني الحياة" و "ماذا حدث للمصريين" .. وكلامي فوق مش بينتقص من قدره قد ما بيقلل ثقتي فيه كمصدر معتد، يعني اقراله عادي بس متنساش تراجع وراه.

Hey, you know that point in the book where Patroclus has finally been put to rest after burning on the pyre? When he narrates the final moments of Achilles' life, he refers to him as if he is no more than a husk, no longer resembling the Achilles he once knew.

A grisly shadow that haunts the battlefield. A face grim, darkened and dulled. Moving like a lion that's grown weakened and sick. He can see that Achilles has died, even before his physical death. The grief has fully claimed him, and that is a metaphor that never fails to make me sad 😭
