“And it seems I must always write you letters that I can never send.”

Found: A trunk with mementos of a life. A teacher's life. A puzzle to piece together. Here, a note from Clara Carlberg, to her brother, Julius. Clara was a teacher in Maine. She, at one point, was engaged, but never married. Clara was a highly sought-after educator there who taught in several districts for most of her adult life.

Nobody deserves this. I want to say that first.
I’ve put my heart into this essay. It’s about two worlds—the seaplanes of Vancouver and the meat hooks of Stutthof. About why a German veteran needs Canada, and why we need to stop being strangers.

Such a great read.
“What else? She is so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I am so lucky to love her.”
— John Green. The Fault in Our Stars
My sweetest daughter, Kate. I'm so lucky to love you.

"In the end, I believe there is nothing we must do to be loved. We spend our lives trying to look more beautiful, more intelligent. But i've understood two things: Those who love us see us with their hearts and give us qualities beyond the ones we truly have. And those who refuse to love us will never be satisfied with all our efforts. Yes, truly. I believe it is important to let our imperfections be. They are precious, for they help us understand those who see us with the heart." - Frida Kahlo

Crumb Cake from TLK ❤️
For the Love of Found Things - Cleaning up Dad's old baking room...he really was the lover of the old, scrappy cookbooks, and the rugged baking tools nobody seems to use anymore. What is, after all, a "square" of Baker's Chocolate these days? He had them all. A butter maker - a big ole jar with a wooden churn that you hand-crank from the top. A bread dough riser bowl. The antique scoops, the tin cookie cutters. I hold them in my hands wanting desperately to hold onto them because he knew, like I do now, that those old tools will last my lifetime and beyond. I love and miss you, Dad - Always.
