I’m doing a dangerous thing and weighing in on the whole “Fenris isn’t even dark-skinned not a POC blehhhh” debate that I’m seeing on my dash a lot recently and I mean for one thing why are there people who want him to be white so bad but I digress

where I grew up, we had a lot of south asian kids - and I mean a LOT. specifically, lots of desi folks. we lived in a coldish area though, and a lot of the girls complained about their skin during the winter, worried that they looked “sallow” or “greyish.”

my mom has pretty dark skin (from one ancestor from the mediterranean area as far as we know) and in the winter, same thing, there’d be some greyish undertones. hell, because I’m white as all fuck but with an olive skin base, I look greyish at times.

I recently saw a headcanon explaining the greyish undertones in fenris’s skin texture as an effect of lyrium poisoning, which, okay thanks for kicking my feelings in the nads. but to me, when I FIRST saw fenris, my only thought about his skin was “huh, he looks like a guy from a hot climate who hasn’t had a lot of sun recently.”

kirkwall is very different from seheron, tevinter, etc. it’s colder. and given the wounded coast and all, probably pretty wet. if fenris were white, it would be MORE LIKELY (I’m not saying absolutes because again, I’m white and the same thing happens to me) that he would have more pink or orangeish undertones in his skin. instead, you have that olive-grey.

to illustrate what I’m talking about:

this lady is obviously desi, obviously a POC. her skin tone is somewhat light, however, and you’ll notice there’s a little grey in the undertones. hey I wonder who has similar skin to this.

would you look at that. this is from one of the lighter screencaps, by the way, JUST so people won’t call lighting on me. it’s not exactly the same, there is a little red in his cheeks, but it’s pretty freaking close. I guarantee if our boy fenris wandered out into the sun for a little while, his skin would get a LOT darker.

TLDR; it’s 2016 this game came out in 2011 but I just got here in terms of fandom why is this a debate. why are we debating this. he’s not white ok.

and saying all this, I’m also not asking people to come to by inbox and explain to me all the reasons I’m wrong. if I’ve said something disrespectful in this or fucked up my reasoning let me know but if you just want to tell me fenris is white I literally do not care <3
