I gotta be real I am immideatly sceptical of any narratives about Becoming Chinese and simmilar trends (white guy shocks people by speaking perfect mandarin etc etc) being harmful racist cultural appropriation or whatever because those seem to come almost exclusively from the diaspora (and mostly the american one, who could've guessed), meanwhile the majority of actual chinese people in china(and more importantly for me chinese government institutions) seem to love it

Like I'm sorry but I trust THE FOREIGN MINISTRY OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA to be an authentic representarive of what's best for chinese people and culture 1000x more than some video essayist from California named some shit like Shirley Chang (who also has a solid 50% chance to be a descendant of the worst counterrevolutionary sellout bastards known to man).

OH AND MORE IMPORTANT THING FROM PHOTOSHOOT DAY I FORGOT TO MENTION after it I just so happened to meet my one other friend/acquaintance in the hall (I don't remember if I posted about her? She was a mutual friend of me and my ex in end of first/beginning of second year, one of the few people we hung out with outside of college, but we kinda drifted apart since then, we still say hi to each other tho, although I haven't seen her much this year. She's kinda interesting and impressive, she used to study in New York back in the day and has some family connections there, and she basically lives in her own right now and had a string of like 20 different jobs. She's very fun but also very "millennial" personality-wise if that makes sense. Type of person to have a have a heart edit angry goose pfp by this website's standards.) ANYWAY she just so happened to be there for the third internal review of her diploma (THE EXACT THING I HAD THE DAY BEFORE) and she was super nervous and I told her it's not that big of a deal and comforted her for a while and she clung onto my arm and told me she loves me awwwww, SHE ALSO SAID I LOOK "LIKE SOME KIND OF DUKE" IN THAT PHOTOSHOOT FIT YAY?? AND TOLD ME I SHOULD TRY DOING SOME HAIRPIN STUFF WITH MY HAIR LIKE I ALWAYS WANTED... Anyway when i walked her to the office she needed I also promised to text her in a few hours when she would finish with it to ask her how it went and comfort her if it went badly. And when I did we also talked for a while and she invited me to hang out on the weekend (so... Tommorow by now)!! This is like the first time I'm hanging out with someone from college outside of college this year yay. She specifically invited me to go thrifting together (cause she had a shirt with a jabot that I wanted and asked where she got it and she said from a thrift store and we discussed them for a while), which is awesome caus i love going thrifting but I feel awkward when I'm doing it alone haha. Also I'm happy she was the one who invited me and sounded excited to do so hehe, usually it's me always inviting people to hang out.

BTW THE PHOTOSHOOT YESTERDAY WENT SO WELL I mean I didn't really like the pictures (at least not how my face looks in them) (cause it turned out it was 2 hour earlier than I thought and I had to rush oops) BUT I loved interacting with all my groupmates a bit haha, and they seemed to like how I looked at least, remember my post about our class president and one other girl (who tried hard to be friends with me in first year and who I discuss academic stuff with often) who I considered potential candidates for friends?? Well they invited me to take a pic with them (we took a full class pic first and then they allowed small groups of friends to take some together) yay!! This pic is cropped from there

And we got to talk for a while after that OUR CLASS PRESIDENT IS SO SWEET WHAT THE HELL she also dressed up the fanciest for the shoot in a super pretty red dress... She also had such a strong reaction to my compliments about it omg I didn't expect that considering when must be getting lots of them, I remember her getting super excited when I told her she looked like a billionaire+plus like our mutual fave professor when she also put on sunglasses outside hehe. Also beforehand she was doing lots of photos with that other girl (the one to the left of me here) and they had such romantic poses like almost looking into each other's eyes and that girl bridal carrying the class president hehe I remember telling that girl that they should start dating and she said that would be nice <З although the class president is like that™ with her other girl friends too so idk.

Btw this week I just so happened to have four days in a row in my old college building haha. Feels kinda nice. Monday and Tuesday to finish one of my arrears (GOT AN A IN CIVIL LAW YAY), Wednesday for an internal review of my thesis project, and today we have a little class photoshoot!! Our tutor called it a "graduation photoshoot" I hope she didn't mean as in it's replacing a proper graduation ceremony, I really hope we'll still have that :<

Anyway about to try on a bunch of outfits rn, and I hope I don't get a bad hair drop today in the lootbox that is washing them

I have this weird thing when whenever I see some beautiful place near my home I immediately start thinking of the first ever people who arrived there... Who were they? What did they think about it? How did it look back then? Did they build anything here or just passed through sometimes? Did this place have any significance for them?

And I mean like first first, not of my country, not of my culture, not of any country or culture that meaningfully exists now. Here where I live, the last habitation by someone we could somewhat recognize was by proto-finno-ugric people like 7000 years, and the absolute first was by people several thousand years before. Did they even linger around the specific beautiful place I see, did their eyes gaze upon it? There were not that many of them back then, in general this region was the backwater of the backwater for most of history, unlike some other ones. There is quite a big chance my culture might have been straight up the first to meaningfully interact with any one specific place I see, but...

I've recently seen a campfire on the bank of one estuary I frequently walk by. I like to think they camped here too, even if for a bit.. Maybe some later people and cultures did more than that. Statistically they almost had to! I like to think about what food they ate, what language they spoke, and if even a little trace of it remains in the still-living languages. What music they played, and especially what gods they worshipped... Do those have even a little trace in any existing religion? Youd be surprised how many gods come partially from cultures thousands of kilometers and years away, and how those gods can later influence non-polytheistic religions when they come to the region. And if one of them does, I guess from a certain perspective that makes them still meaningfully real in some way. I hope i don't do something offensive over a long buries idol...

It's crazy how you can make almost any sweet better by chucking some rosewater and pink food coloring (for the aesthetic) in there. I love doing that with cheap vanilla ice cream hehe
