I have gone out, a possessed witch, haunting the black air, braver at night; dreaming evil, I have done my hitch over the plain houses, light by light: lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind. A woman like that is not a woman, quite. I have been her kind.
I have found the warm caves in the woods, filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves, closets, silks, innumerable goods; fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves: whining, rearranging the disaligned. A woman like that is misunderstood. I have been her kind.
I have ridden in your cart, driver, waved my nude arms at villages going by, learning the last bright routes, survivor where your flames still bite my thigh and my ribs crack where your wheels wind. A woman like that is not ashamed to die. I have been her kind.

Lunch with my best friend
While CoSM NYC was happening (2004-9), before CoSM Hudson Valley, we went to Bali with 35 friends. One intention was to find a wood sculptor to carve Alex’s image, “Creating A Better World” as double doors, an 8ft x 8ft sculptural relief, for the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. To Bali, we brought two 8x8 foot tissue drawings by Alex, neatly folded into a suitcase. With the group, we promised a group mushroom experience (legal in Bali), temple visits, to sculpt wooden masks, have private consultations with body workers and a shaman, have a white water adventure, do a batik with experts and shop for sculpture in wood, stone and iron. We all stayed in an exquisite retreat center, complete with meals, swimming pools, a local museum and evening activities. To have the doors sculpted, we first had to select our teak logs from a lumber yard. The doors would be 12cm thick, the wood kiln dried for months and then carved on both sides. They weighed several hundred pounds each. Carved by Wayan, the teak doors were shipped to NY two years later. Years passed before a temple at CoSM was ready to receive front doors. During that waiting time, 3D printing happened. Both 8x8 foot sculpted teak doors were scanned, both sides. A foundry in Thailand cast the one side, ““Creating A Better World,” exact size, in bronze as a relief sculpture. Because building code does not allow wooden doors on a public building, the relief had to be backed by reinforced steel. Through friends from Burning Man, we found metalwork artists in New Jersey, who turned the bronze reliefs into two steel doors. At Alex’s request, the doors were etched with Secret Writing on the inner steel side and fitted with a required inside emergency push bar. Each door weighs about 750 lbs. One side opens with five pounds of pressure or the press of a button, for ADA compliance.
