Remember stuff about this account

I remember that the original purpose of this account was to make a record of the development of the 2D animated project I did with my group. But due to setbacks I couldn’t continue with that. 

Now I’m in my last year in the institute and I’m doing a 3D animated short with another group, we are still in the pre-production stage.

I don’t know if I want to keep the older stuff (since I have another 2 accounts in which I share other kind of material) But... To be honest it’s really hard to find spare time to even think what to write... (well, it’s something I do for fun after all but still) 

I don’t going to talk much about what happened with the 2D short we did (Well, it ended good but due to all the problems we had internally, I prefer do not talk about this topic again... at least not in a couple of years.

Rough troubles

These last days were pretty chaotic and we already have troubles with the timetable because we don’t reach the deadlines... and, at this state of the development that’s pretty terrible. Rough was a troubling part due to the lack of consistent in the drawings, specially for the main character... we already have a 3 versions of her. 

I have 17 takes to animate, it was completely unbalanced, because some of my partners had a maximum 10 or 11 takes to animate. I have to do corrections in the majority of them but I also left 4 scenes that I going to give to other 2 of my partners to animate them.

Well, my director is also having troubles with the backgrounds, they are pretty tough to make because of the level of details, textures and the kind of illumination we are using for the short. We already have 7 of 20 backgrounds made.

We only have this month for finishing the whole animation process, the other 2 months we are going to do the foley, musicalization and the post-production part. 

I feel quite unstable because my notes are pretty bad, I don’t feel that I can maintain the stress of doing the short and the stress of fulfilling with my other courses, specially with the level of exigency that my other teachers expects from us. Well, I want to release this from me and that’s why I telling it.

Well, I’m going to finish this short entry, but I have a lot of homework to do so... take care. Bye

The Layout Work

We already pass the layout work, but that face was a little tough because we didn’t follow the technical indications properly but our teacher helped us with that.

He sent us the corrections to our google drive account and now we must do the roughs for the animation.

My layouts were a little bit messy, to be honest, I had to use the model sheet as a base because I’m still not so much accostumed to the style.

In fact, the style isn’t so hard, but is too cartoonish for me to draw, I use to draw a 90′s manga style and I draw that way since the 7 years old.

But in this job is not about your personal preferences or your favorite (a.k.a. default) drawing style, it’s about adaptability, so you should be able to, litteraly, draw any style possible... for the sake of the project.

I also have problems with the line of action, and was also the main problem with my companions too. It’s a little bit hard do that imaginary “top-line” that gives your postures more dynamism, but it’s completely necessary.

Another problem were the direction of the eyes, some of the layouts had characters with “blank stares” and that removes the sensation of life in the characters.

Also bad frame facts in some takes and off-model sheet characters.  

The technical indications were also incomplete, for example no takes numbers or no number of frames or timing.

The layout is a very important part of the process because is here where we begin to do the “choreography”, we place the timing of each scene, the staging, also set the keyframes and that also determine the spacing, etc.

We must be very specific with this indications because this is what animators going to use for start with the roughs.

Well, this was a very short entry but it’s because I’m very busy with the homeworks and the animated short stuff. 

I don’t know when I will be able to write another entry, in fact I shouldn’t be doing this now, but I didn’t want to leave the blog abandoned for too long.

Re-doing the storyboard

Hello, I didn’t write in days because me and my group were busy checking things related to the short.

Each one of my co-workers has had to do a part of the storyboard and our teacher correct it later in the class.

He really reduced it, it’s good because we save time (And we don’t have so much either) animating and also correct some parts of the story because the takes didn’t have any “insinuation” and were very “boring”. 

I also have to do some z-brush homework along with a little script for this week. Z-brush is pretty tough but I wall talk about it in another entry.

Really suck don’t have the 11.1 of Harmony because it’s really hard to get and it’s also expensive so the majority of us cannot buy the license. We are going to have troubles to doing the short if we still using this version.

Our teacher help us with the 10.3 version of the program but we are not sure if it is going to work with the current version we are working.

Well, I don’t want to be all negative about this, for the bright side we are moving forward with the acting and we already have solved half the storyboard. 

I’m now in Animation 2D-2 but we also going to continue with the workshop. We have to record the second part of our acting this days. The timetable have no mercy with us.

Let’s get started

I’m currently develop an animated short along with my group and there are 2 other more animated shorts in my class. 

5 new people joined to us and now we are re-doing the storyboard, make some investigation and preparing the foley. 

This project began 3 months ago but we has had to make changes due to the length of the final product. 

It’s funny to participate in this kind of work, it’s also my first time doing an animated short. We have a rigid deadlines to delive the work we were asigned. My director is also a great woman with much talent both to lead and animate and illustrate.

My partners are good, some are pretty stubborn sometimes (Specially when it is about where we have to take the proper historial references) well, to be honest it’s just one of them. 

Some of them are more shy and other tends just to accept whatever our director says or the group in general. 

Our teacher is also a tanning animator and it’s an invaluable help for us. We actually know him since the beggining of the career.

The other two projects are also quite interesting, One of them is a pretty lovely comedy and the other it’s more experimental. 

The genre of our animated short is terror and it’s about a devilish porcelain doll that happens in the early Edwardian Era. 

Maybe I will post more about the progress of the shorts later. The next 2 months are going to be too busy and I’m not sure that I’ll be able to post frequently, 

Well, I suppostly shouldn’t write in this moment (because I’m in the After Effects class. But I don’t think I’m going to have time later because I’m busy with my part of the storyboard)
