UPON the mention of the hoof, Nylira laughed. She had truly feared her intent would have not been alike his: perhaps all he had ever sought was her friendship, her company. It appeared, though, this impression of hers had been a mere impression and no more. Fear of some outcome could have blinded one, and Nylira had been no exception. Then, the veil had been torn off her eyes and she saw it all clearly now: Romuul did share her feelings. There was no more doubt to it.Β
AND Romuul had been anxious as well, it would seem. Both of them had been. Nylira had not sought to be rash. Perhaps, to him, it had been the anxiety of a new beginning. It was understandable, after all. The children needed both a mother and a father, yet to give them a motherly figure would have not come lightly. Nylira would have never dared asked it, though she did love his children dearly. No child would have been subjected to great sufferance, not as long as she drew breath.Β
βBUTΒ βYesβ I will say! Romuulβ¦β She glanced upon their now united hands. And it felt so proper, so true. For one moment at least, they could have forgotten the harsh bitterness around them. Amid all the grief, love was yet to be found, hope could have been rebuilt. Her hope, her joy, her loveβ¦they would dwell within him, within them as a whole. Her heart leaped with joy, that sort of gladness she had never truly thought to find.Β βIf this is what you truly seek, then know I shall gladly give. My heart has chosen you, and I believe there is no other who should have it.β Again did she laugh.Β βThis entire time, I wondered, doubting you would ever feel the same. Yetβ¦by the Light! You do! You do! I have never been so gladβ¦β The world melted away, with all its shade, sorrow, joy, fire, ice. There was him, and her, them.Β βIf you would have this in truth, I shall not deny you. I never would.β
her musical laugh would prompt his own; through their joined hands, they shared their JOY. Romuulβs very soul itself felt as though it would rise from his body. finally, this weight was LIFTED from his shoulders! finally he could be open and honest about his feelings with Nylira as he had desired for so long! it felt as though there had been a rope constricting him and squeezing his lungs to the brink of SUFFOCATION, that had now released him and allowed him to breathe freely once again. to know that his feelings for Nylira were mutual was relief in its GREATEST form.
and how excited the CHILDREN would be! they loved Nylira as they would have come to love the mother whoβd given birth to them, if they had gotten to know her. often had he heard them whisper to each other in their beds of how sweet and kind she was, and how much their father loved her. they would even talk of scenarios of marriage and other siblings, a chance for a REAL family; it hurt Romuulβs heart that he had never been able to provide that for them, for every child deserved to know two loving parents. all Romuul had to offer was HIMSELF, and for his children that had always been enough, but Nyliraβs presence would begin to heal the VOID their mother had left in them. of this, he was sure.
the artificer smiled so much his cheeks had begun to ache.Β β there is no one i desire more, β he admitted softly, eyes alight with love and hope the likes of which he had nearly FORGOTTEN. tentatively, but BOLDER than before, he raised one of her hands and placed the most delicate of kisses upon her knuckle.Β β you bless me, Nylira, β he whispered, lips still brushed against her hand,Β β i never thought... i never thought that we would be here, like this. but we are! this is us, and weβre here, and itβs... itβs AMAZING. β
