Cross-posted from Twitter as an introduction to our Hindsight (2020) SMAU, a brief history of the Shark Puppy origins and the evolution of the creative relationships that built Shark Puppy’s next album, made by Lauren @flightlesslovers as part of the two-week celebration prior to the release of Hindsight (2020), Shark Puppy’s tenth studio album.
Please check out all of the creators featured in this post, they all make such amazing things and deserve all the celebration!!!
Stay tuned for more Hindsight content in the very near future!
EDIT: Because I’m a dumbass, I forgot to change the title of this post before putting it up here, and have now changed it accordingly. The previous version of this post implied it to be a complete summary of the Shark Puppy fandom history and accurate representation of the community at large, when this is simply not the case. I have edited the slideshow and the post to more accurately reflect its contents: this post was made as a brief introduction to how Shark Puppy came to be, and my own personal experience becoming a songwriter and the conception of Hindsight (2020).
This is NOT a complete reflection of the history of the Shark Puppy community, more so a focus on how the community and then specifically the creative relationship between @flightlesslovers (me), @sapphicsansastark and @trashmouthbi in the lead up to the release of Hindsight (2020), the Shark Puppy album that the three of us have been working on this year.
There is so much more music and more creativity than what I’ve shown on this slideshow and, looking back now, there is much that I could have done better to be more inclusive to the rest of the community and more accurately reflect the diverse range of creative artists that make Shark Puppy the amazing collaborative project that it is today. This was absolutely an oversight on my part, and I apologise to all the artists I excluded in making this post for not properly recognising and acknowledging your incredible work in this community.
I can’t take back what I’ve done, but I can work to rectify the mistake. Like I said, I’ve edited this post to more accurately reflect the sentiment, but there is still more I can do.
Something I’ve been meaning to do for a while on this blog and on the Shark Puppy Twitter account I run is to organise a showcase of the incredible artists, musicians, and songwriters that this community has brought together. It was long overdue, and has become my top priority since I was called out for the insensitivity of this original post. If you’ve done anything creative to contribute to the growth of the Shark Puppy community (songwriting, composition, lyrics, art, album graphics, memes, etc) then we would love to feature you in this event. All you have to do is fill out THIS FORM, and we’ll do the rest.
I made a complete post about this event HERE, which you can reblog to spread the word.
Shark Puppy is a community creation, and we have a responsibility to reflect that.
