lovelyarden:
“aw, stop it. you’re gonna make me cry, and i actually put effort into wearing make up today for the first time in like… a week. i don’t wanna ruin it.” she laughed, looking over to her with a smile. “then it sounds like we’re both happy. does dad know you were gonna tell me today?”
"you actually put makeup on today? you look nice, munchkin." she said with a grin. she nodded her head, "he most certainly did. he was glad i spoke up about it because he had been wanting to but wasn't sure how i felt about it, and it was the same thing with me. i woke him up when i came home at like..3 a.m. to ask him."
atticusvanderbilt:
“I love you too Sharna. I always will.” He smiled, kissing her back happily. “We can make my brother and his wife be her god parents? They would probably be a happier home to live in should anything ever happen to us.” He replied with a shrug of his shoulders. He loved his mother, but if anything happened to him, he didn’t want his mom to try and step in and control her life. Sure she’d have everything she wanted and needed, but he wanted Arden to be able to do whatever her heart desired and not have to live under the family pressure he did. Hearing what Sharna said next, his breath caught in the back of his throat. She’d lost a baby. My baby. Our baby? It was all he kept thinking to himself, and though he hadn’t even known about the baby, he still found himself feeling heartbroken about it. What hurt him more though was that Sharna felt like she had to deal with on her own. “Sharna…. we’re married. For better or for worse. We are supposed to deal with our problems together.”
Sharna grinned scrunching up her nose, "I'll always love you too." She nodded her head, "Not Peggy though, right? God, please not Peggy." She nodded her head, a small smile in place. She just wanted her baby to be in a happy home if anything ever did happen to her and atticus. Sharna nodded, biting her lower lip. "I-I know we are but I just didn't...I figured that I could handle it. I should have told you and I'm sorry that I didn't.."

jack turned back around and looked at her sister, “i did not hate him. he hated me.” she wiped her eyes, “do you know why i became a detective, sharna?” she asked, walking over to the woman, “i know we did..” she said, feeling her eyes well up with fresh tears, “i honestly missed out on too much and i don’t want to miss any more of your life. i can’t stand how much i’ve missed of your life. it hurt so much….” her words trailed off, “i was at his funeral, sharna. i was there and all i wanted to do was run up to you and hug you but i couldn’t. i couldn’t bring myself to do it and i’m so so so sorry.” the older woman explained to the younger woman.
sharna frowned, shaking her head, "no. we never talked after you left so how could i?" she said, biting her lower lip. "yeah..you did miss out on a lot. a hell of a lot." sharna sighed as she listened to her sister. the blonde was stubborn..extremely stubborn but more than anything she loved her sister, despite the distance between them. listening to her though, caused fresh tears to stream down her cheeks. without thinking, without hesitation, the younger woman approached her older sister and wrapped her arms around her in a hug, "it's okay, jack. it's okay."
lovelyarden:
“yeah, it just seemed like as i got closer and closer to eighteen it was less likely. mostly ‘cause like, most people don’t want to adopt older kids, most want babies or little kids.” she shrugged. “any moment would have been the perfect one, but this one is perfect.” she smiled at her. “you do a great job.” she assured her. “the best job out of anyone i’ve ever met.”
"nah. i knew the moment you walked through our door that i wanted you. i just wanted to make sure you were a great fit. and now you're mine." she grinned, "i'm glad you think so. as long as you're happy, i'm happy."
seraphinahq:
“that would mean i’m on break or haven’t clocked in yet. but no, i didn’t watch it at work.”
"better than having your phone out on the floor don't you think? that's what i was hoping to hear."
seraphinahq:
“oh, please, as if there’s anywhere discreet i could put my phone while on my shift.”
"right, because there isn't a lounge with lockers or anything."
seraphinahq:
“one of the idiots i call a friend sent me a video of a woman giving birth and i think it solidified my decision to never have kids.”
"we aren't watching these videos at work, are we?"
lovelyarden:
“i’ll work on it. i also need to think of a new third goal now… it’s always been to get adopted, and i thought that one was the least plausible, but apparently i can be wrong.” she laughed. “my cheeks hurt, i bet they’re gonna be sore tomorrow. i don’t think i’ve ever smiled this much in my whole life.”
"you thought you wouldn't get adopted? really?" she asked, glancing over at her. "i just wanted to wait for the perfect moment. i didn't want to rush it." she said softly. she laughed, "i'm glad you're happy, honey. that's my number one job. making you happy."
lovelyarden:
“you’d always be my mom even if you didn’t adopt me, y’know. you’re kinda stuck with me.” she said, still beaming as she looked up at sharna. “okay, i can probably do that. i can’t think of anything right now, i think i’m still in shock.”
"judt like you'd always be my baby." the blonde said with a smile. she laughed, "you don't have to decide right now. just think on it. wherever you want."
jacquelinewilson:
the words that fell from her younger sister’s lips partially angered her, “no, sharna, i don’t.” she spoke through her teeth. when she heard the reason her sister hated her, she felt her eyes well up with fresh tears, “i wasn’t allowed to call you or come by and see you, sharna. daddy forbid it. every fucking time i would call or come by he would say and i quote, ‘ don’t come by and don’t call here again. ‘ it was the same with my letters. yeah, i wrote you letters, explaining why i wasn’t around anymore and he probably shredded them. you were mine, too. despite us being ten years apart, i was closer to you than i ever was with him.” she paused to take a deep breath, ”miscarriage? sharna, oh my god, i am so incredibly sorry.” she knew her sister was strong but that was something that for sure wasn’t easy to get over. she looked at the woman and nodded, “fine. have it your way.” she spoke as tears ran down her face, even though her voice didn’t seem as if she were crying, “i love you, little sister.” she said as she pivoted on the ball of her foot to turn and walk back out the front door.
"why should i believe you? you hated daddy.." her voice trailed off. jack had no reason to lie but she refused to allow herself to believe someone who was ruining the last happy memories she had of her father. "we did everything together..." she said softly. the two had always been close, and sharna would always love her, that would never change. hearing her sister's reaction, sharna had to bite her lower lip to keep from crying in front of the older woman. when jack turned to leave, sharna snapped out of her thoughts, and reached out for her arm, "don't..don't go. please." her voice cracked, and she quickly wiped a stray tear away.
atticusvanderbilt:
“Of course, really.” He smiled, letting out a laugh as she wrapped her arms around him. “I love Arden, and I love you, and you know I want us to be a real family, legally. I know we can give her the life she deserves, and god forbid anything ever happen to us, that way we will know she is taken care of and doesn’t just get bumped to some other foster family.” Atticus watched the smile falter on her face, and he looked at her with concern. “What is it, love? You know you can tell me anything.”
The blonde let out another squeal, "Have I told you lately how much I love your heart, Atticus?" She asked with a grin, pressing her lips to his once more. "Your mom would take good care of her right?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. She let out a sigh, "I um.." she dropped her arms, biting her lower lip. "About a month and a half ago, I found out that I was pregnant but like.." she wiped away the tears started to stream down her cheeks, "a few weeks ago, I um..I miscarried..and I wasn't sure how to tell you..I just figured I'd deal with it on my own..because that’s what I do"
lovelyarden:
“i dunno, just checking.” she said, before quickly nodding, “oh my gosh. yes, a bajillion times yes.” she laughed. “i’m more than okay with it.” she said, trying to contain some of the excitement. “i love you too! i just– oh my god, i don’t even know what to say. thank you, thank you, thank you!”
sharna laughed, "we just want you to be legally ours. you have been my child since the day you got here and there is nothing i want more than that." she bit her lower lip, "when we get back, atticus, you, and me will go to dinner wherever you want, so be thinking about that alright?"
lovelyarden:
arden listened as she started to explain what she meant. she tried to follow along with what sharna was saying, trying not to assume anything about the way the conversation was heading by the way she was leading up to the main point. so many things raced through her mind while she waited for her to finish, the most reassuring thing being that she didn’t think sharna would take her out for the weekend if they were planning on getting rid of her. she let out a breath she didn’t even realize she was holding when she mentioned wanting to adopt her, letting herself relax as she continued to talk. “oh my god...” she said, laughing quietly as she looked over to her. “really? like, for real? i don’t even know what to say– that would be amazing. are you sure?”
the blonde nodded, "for real." she laughed slightly. "of course i'm sure. why wouldn't i be sunshine?" she tilted her head to the side. "i'm assuming that you're okay with this? that's a safe assumption to make? i can call atticus tonight and tell him to talk to our lawyer about the paperwork? please tell me if i'm wrong here," she said with a smile. "like i said, we love you and we want you to be a vanderbilt. legally."
lovelyarden:
Arden smiled as she looked over at her, “That’s one of the cutest things I’ve heard in a while.” she laughed softly. “But I hope you don’t lose it, I’d rather you keep all three of your babies.” she added, smiling at what she said next. “That’s good! Drunk and disorderly people are actually the worst.”
Sharna laughed, shaking her head, "Oh hush." She then shook her head, "Nah. I won't. People love it..a lot. They have tons of gentlemen's clubs in Dallas but that's like a three hour drive from here and their dancers look like crack whores," she shrugged her shoulders. "Tell me about it. Never open a business where you will have to deal with them."
lovelyarden:
arden was glad to have the weekend with her mom. she hadn’t been planning on it, but when sharna offered, she didn’t hesitate to take her up on it. now that she was getting older she felt more comfortable with her parents focusing on their work rather than on her like they’d done when she first got placed with them. sharna and atticus were by far the best family she’d been placed with, and she’d be lying if she said she didn’t like how over the top they could be with how they spoiled her sometimes. she couldn’t help but get nervous when sharna turned down the radio, the whole thing seemed eerily reminiscent to when other parents had told her that she was being moved to a different home. “uh… okay. yeah, sure. what’s up?”
"i was talking to atticus and um.." sharna was always very confident but right now, she felt like a child going to their first day of pre k. she was terrified of arden saying no, and losing her baby. again. she pondered over in her head how to approach the topic but was coming up blank. "we think that it would be in your best interest and ours if we..." she scrunched up her nose. "we want to adopt you, arden. we love you so much. i love being married, i do but you are what has been missing in our lives, especially mine. as far as i'm concerned, you are my child, you are our child."
lovelyarden:
“That’s okay, it’s your baby. I’m always here, I can wait.” She said with a small smile. “How has everything been with it though?”
Sharna frowned, pushing a strand of Arden's hair behind her ear, "You're my baby. You will always be my baby. I could lose my business and I'd be okay with that as long as I have you and Atticus." She said with a small smile. "It's good. I haven't had to kick anyone out this week for being drunk and disorderly."
