Hiked to this magical canyon today and was awarded with this view. Spent around 6 hours there and it was absolutely worth it! Just got back to the car and immediately did this edit! There was no reception by the canyon so I couldn’t post any stories

Day 6 - Maeglin

          The son of Aredhel and Eöl was M A E G L I N. In his youth he came to Gondolin where he lost both his parents, but being the sister-son of the King he was welcomed into Turgon’s house. Maeglin grew to love his cousin Idril, but she spurned his affection and he was left alone.

          Maeglin founded the House of the Mole, leading a mining people into the Encircling Mountains in search for ore. On one such journey taken alone, Maeglin was captured by orcs and taken to Morgoth where he was tortured into betraying the secrets of Gondolin. He aided the Enemy in the Fall of Gondolin, and his name was cursed by the surviving people as traitorous. It is said that in the end he perished in the same fall that killed his father.

See how there’s a little notch eroded right at the seashore? A type of organism called a chiton lives right there and actually chews away at the rocks to eat algae, causing that notch when sea level is stagnant for a few thousand years.

A member of the public brought this mole to us after finding it above ground in the daytime. It had superficial bruising to its front paws but nothing more serious.

It was bright and responsive and had a good digging reflex. Moles stress easily in captivity and can often die of capture-related disorders. After mite treatment and anti-inflammatories, the decision was made to return it to whence it was found, where it was successfully released back underground.
