Proposed Online Platform - Professional Website
Reflective Summary
The reason why I chose this course at the very beginning is very simple because I will soon end my life on campus, enter society and start my own work. However, as a student of product design, our situation is quite different from others. The students of product design have a wide range of employment, and the skills we have learned can be applied to many fields, some of them even go to a completely unrelated industry. As for the product design industry itself, we can choose to join a product manufacturer that needs a product designer, join a design studio or start our own business. I think no matter how we choose our career direction, it is helpful and important to learn about the ability to build a new career.
The study of this course is very enjoyable. In each class, I can learn a lot of knowledge, and at the same time get a lot of opportunities to practice simulation, so that I have a better understanding of the knowledge. And the best part is that we often hear stories and experiences from people who are actually doing their own business in class, which enables me to understand the knowledge points in class more accurately.
After a semester of study, I learned how to build their own business ability, but also have some feelings. I think building a business is easier than I thought it would be, but it's also more complicated than I thought it would be. I think simplicity is because it is not as complicated and unreachable as I imagined. Everything is simple and feasible. As long as we do things according to our experience and requirements, we will be able to develop our own business naturally. But starting a business at the same time is complicated because it's not as good as it seems. To build and sustain a business, we need to think about many other things as well as what we are good at in design. Such as communication with others and money problems, they may be big or small, but they all have an impact on a career.
I want to thank Jessamy for the teaching and the participation of others. It was a great journey. I also believe that at some point in the future, when I prepare to start my own business, the knowledge I have learned in this course will be of great help to me. Thank you very much!
In week 11, we have made business pitching presentations. I find it interesting both to give my own speeches and to listen to others' business plans. Although our business plans may not be so complete and feasible, I have come to a strong feeling of practical experience in the pitching process. I think I'm really trying to promote my ideas and ideas to everyone, and I fully believe in what I'm doing. I really like the description of my opinion on photography in the first half paragraph. What I want is to establish an emotional connection with the audience. This is an important element of my business plan. It is life-like and emotional. But Jessamy also has some advice for me. For example, I need to Highlight what I am talking about in PowerPoint better, and I need to be more specific about the cashflow forecast.
In the 10th week, we had the opportunity to conduct a one-on-one tutorial with Jessamy, which was very helpful for me. Firstly, Jessamy has helped me enrich and improve my business LEAN Canvas and Cashflow Forecast. She helped me solve many problems that I did not understand and reminded me to make up for many problems that I ignored. Let me have a deeper understanding of the production of the whole business plan. Then Jessamy also helped me sort out my business plan to make my direction clearer. It made me understand more clearly what I should pay attention to.
Organisations
1. Search for 3 business support organisations that could help you start up your business, upload a link to their websites on your blog and write about how they would support your business?
Squarespace, https://www.squarespace.com/
500px, https://web.500px.com/
Fujifilm(or other camera companies, I`m using Fujifilm`s camera at this moment), https://fujifilm-x.com/fr-fr/photographers/
The resources provided by the three organizations are equipment, website, and publicity. Just what a photographer needs. The first is Squarespace, which provides photographers with a great display and portfolio. It is also the most basic thing for photographers to promote themselves. It's also the easiest to achieve, and you can see Squarespace support for many photographers on social media and Youtube.
Then there's the 500px, a photo gallery platform that also contracts photographers. Of course, there are many online photo galleries such as Getty Image, Visual China Group, etc.500px is one of them, which I may be able to achieve at present. In addition to being a showcase for photos, being able to sign up for them guarantees a certain amount of exposure. As an online gallery, they also have a mechanism for selling photos, which can provide real income for photographers.
And finally, Fujifilm. As a camera manufacturer like Canon, Nikon and Sony, Fujifilm also contracts directly with photographers. Because I currently use Fuji's camera, I mention them here. Become the X-Photographer of Fujifilm and get their support on the equipment, as well as great fame. Of course, this makes it the most difficult to achieve among the three. Few photographers can directly sign contracts with equipment manufacturers, and of course, the response requirements will be very high.
2. Search for 3 professional organisations that you could join and become a member, upload a link to their websites on your blog and write about why they would help you and your business?
MAGNUM PHOTOS, https://www.magnumphotos.com/
AdventureX, http://www.theadventurex.com/
National Geographic, https://www.nationalgeographic.com/
The three organizations mentioned above are all different photography organizations, including world-renowned top photography organizations and folk photography associations. Photography as a relatively independent activity, it may not need a large number of people to participate in collaboration, especially landscape and street photography only need the photographer himself. At most, commercial photography of portraits and products requires the cooperation of makeup artists, lighting artists and so on. Therefore, for photographers, the range of organizations they can participate in is very small, namely some photography groups. Of course, being able to join larger and better-known groups leads to more resources and more fame.
Week4
1. Background to your practice; what skills can you take into your business?
- Product Design, Photography, Creative Thinking, and Interpersonal.
2. What will be the main considerations you face when setting up?
- who is the audience? how to attract the audience? what platform should I choose? how to get and maintain the exposure?
3. How will you develop a clear vision and set goals as part of this process?
- Understand the market situation from the experience of others and my own practice, set the basic goals according to my own level, find market vacancies to set the direction of the future.
4. How will you approach your business plan? How far forward will you look, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years?
- The audience of my photographic works is the basic guarantee for the products consumers provide. I want to have 1 year to build up the number of my audience. In 3 years forward I will lead my audience to my product selling and also use the marketing effect of the market to increase my customers.
5. Research 5 clients/agents/retailers that could sell your products or services?
- 500px, Getty Images, IKEA, Jessops, John Lewis
USP
1. Define what is your product or service, what is your USP?
Instead of promoting my own work, I use my knowledge of photography and product design to work with other photographers to help promote them.
2-3. Look at another similar brand in your field, hyperlink it to your blog and highlight their USP and what they do well, is there something that they don’t do that you could do better with your own company?
Find an example of a brand in your field that ignores something that you could focus on to connect more deeply with clients?

Donglai _ldldick's photographic equipment store sells top-notch photographic equipment and also provides high-quality photographic printing services. Although they have done the best from the perspective of the photographer, their products and services are not creative enough.

The “left-hand plus” platform created by photographer Zhang Qianli provides people with photography learning and equipment recommendation services. Although the number of their audiences has grown very fast, they are more likely to offer services than sales of physical products.
I hope that after using my own photography to promote my platform to a certain audience recognition. Not only provide photographic equipment and high-quality printing services, but through communication skills, and contact with the world's top photographers and cooperation. The high quality of their work is printed to make a printed product for sale. This not only makes my platform attract more attention and profit, but also helps foreign photographers to grow popularity in countries they are not familiar with, and increases profitability outside of their online sales of their own photos.
Skills
As a photographer and product designer, this gives me the skills of both fields. In photography, in addition to the photo itself, I can also set up scenes and lighting, as well as the hiking required for outdoor scenery photography. As a product designer, I have the skills of painting and calligraphy, can do some graphic design, and have the ability to make 3D modeling and manual modeling. These are my hard skills.
As for soft skills, there is a striking consistency in what is needed in these two areas. I have good planning and time management skills. In order to communicate with other people, I can communicate with others and listen to others well, and I can handle interpersonal relationships very well. On the professional side, under long-term training, I'm always in a state of looking for beauty and discovering design opportunities. And photography gives me a different perspective than ordinary people go to see the world. Then my creative thinking constantly drives me to set new goals to keep my motivation. The uncertainty of these two industries also taught me to constantly learn new knowledge and new skills and to constantly change when encountering problems.

J神 - chihato
Jason is a small Chinese folk photographer on the Internet. His main content is portrait. He has his own Weibo to interact on the web and has his own homepage on a large photography exchange platform lofter in China to upload his own work, and also his own website.
Unlike other photographers who need to sell prints of their own photography to make money, the important source of portrait photography is people's appointments for photograph and teaching workshops. So the goal of activities on the web is to showcase your portfolio and stay in touch with people to ensure their exposure to get more appointments. So I think the two platforms he chose are very effective.
The reason I like Jason is that his works are very ceremonial. Unlike other people who like photographers, they only pursue large apertures to make people look good. Jason's work is usually very quiet, and the picture is very story-like, allowing people to think while watching. I think his homepage is very good for his work, and the page is very simple. The pure black background and simple text will not be distracting so that the audience will only focus on his work when watching.

SoccerBible
Soccerbible is the football culture promotion platform of pro direct soccer, the world's largest football equipment sales website. The Soccerbible is filled with high-quality photos and pictures, which show the latest and most advanced football equipment, as well as the culture inside and outside the football field.
Because they belong to the football equipment sales website, their articles usually link directly to the main website of PDS, and they also publish their photography on Instagram, spreading the culture and attitude of football from various platforms.
I think that in the current online world, everything is within reach but very fragmented. It’s not enough to just talk about one thing. You need to discuss the whole culture of this matter and turn your platform into a community that attracts everyone to participate.

张千里(Zhang Qianli) & 左手plus (LeftHand Plus)
Zhang Qianli is a famous photographer on the Chinese network. He can even be said to be one of the most successful commercial photographers in China for online self-promotion.
Zhang Qianli's network promotion method is very diverse. First of all, for himself, he has his own website, blog, and Weibo homepage. Weibo is China's Facebook and Twitter. Because the huge number of users of Weibo and the support of various brand companies have made him have good exposure on Weibo. At the same time, he also wrote several books about photography, which made people feel that he is a master.
In the later period, Zhang Qianli was not limited to the promotion of himself and photography. He started a company called ‘behind the photo’ and wanted to build a platform for photography culture. He works with his wife, who is a writer called Left-Hand, to carry out various activities through photos, videos, texts, and offline activities. The most important of these videos were released via youtube and China's largest video platform, Bilibili. Through the video, they show the photographer's shooting scene, make product recommendations for fans, and even invite other photographers to share photography techniques and stories.
Multi-platform and multi-faceted publicity, although complex, is the most effective attraction to the audience.

Max Rive
Unlike Thomas Heaton's special way of promoting yourself through youtube to promote your own photography, Max Rive relies on its powerful photography skills and stunning photography works to attract viewers. His superb shooting skills and unique photographic perspective make his every piece of work truly memorable.
Max Rive's online promotion method is mainly portfolio, he has his own personal website, and he is the signing photographer of the 500px website has his own homepage, and he also uploads his own works on Instagram. To be honest, these platforms are very monotonous and repetitive. But because of Max Rive's shocking work, as long as they have enough visual exposure, they can continue to bring viewers to him.
He is the ultimate state of a landscape photographer for me. He doesn't have to dress too much, and he can attract audiences with powerful works.

Thomas Heaton
He is the photographer that I am following most closely right now. I started to know him from his youtube channel. In his channel, he uses vlogs to record and show the scenes he actually shot in the field. He not only explained how he conceived how to shoot the current scene but also introduced to people how to be an outdoor landscape photographer, including how to plan how to camp and so on. In these processes, he motivated people to go out to shoot more, and his explanation also showed his understanding of photography. He is definitely not a top-notch photographer, but his philosophy and his motivation have a big impact on me.
Starting with his youtube channel, I followed his Instagram and his own website. His youtube homepage is his main event and promotion method, and Instagram is a portfolio that he can manage easily and quickly, keeping him active during the time when there is no video upload, and also allowing people to browse his work at any time and quickly. Finally, his website, his website is very simple and does not upload all his photos, which is in line with his photography style, just like he has been repeating in the video, his website will only upload his 'keeper '. At the same time, people can purchase his own printed and packaged photography on his website, as well as his annual calendar and e-book. This is all part of his income.
I think the combination of these three is a very good complement to ensure publicity and activity on the Internet.
