Omg hello hello, I love your showtime art, showtime is my life 😍 I have a question, I'm not in the Hazbin Hotel fandom but I liked the pilot, I saw that you really like Charlie (I adored her when I watched the pilot) but do not like at all the way she was written in season 2. Since I've only seen the pilot, and none of the show, I'm just super curious how you would describe how her character changed from the pilot to s1 to s2 if it's not too much trouble!

This is a bit of a long answer, so buckle up T.T
FIRST OFF. I STILL LOVE CHARLIE WITH MY LIFE- but I really disliked her in Season 2. I have to say that my favorite Charlie would be the one from the pilot, but I got so accustomed to her design in the show that I used to draw that one the most before I made my own redesign.
I don't know, her pilot self just feels a lot more like what her character's supposed to be: The 200 yo princess of Hell that grew up surrounded by royalty and overprotected, but who dreams of making a change for the better by redeeming sinners, even if she knows how awful they are. She also seems to have more control over her powers than Show Charlie, WHICH MAKES SENSE GIVEN HER AGE, HER STATUS, HER PARENTS, UNCLES, AND ALL HER SURROUNDINGS REALLY.
And even though she doesn't get respected as royalty by her people, she has more spine than Show Charlie, being willing to throw hands with Katie Killjoy and not accepting Alastor's shitty deal at the beginning. She knows what power she has, but chooses to remain an optimist at heart, even if she knows people might try to exploit that.
Now, season 1 Charlie is less confident in her motivations and feels more naive to me. I liked seeing her developing as a leader during "Ready for this", and learning to respect Angel's boundaries during that season, buuut I still dislike that she doesn't stand up to herself, but at least there's SOME character growth there, right? RIGHT?
SEASON 2. I disliked this season a lot, even though I liked Vox as a villain, it just felt dumb to me to portray him as such a huge threat when he really isn't? Like, the main antagonist in season 1 was HEAVEN, and to go from that to have a SINNER as the villain, per say, felt like a downgrade. It would've made a lot more sense if he was the villain in season 1 and Heaven was the antagonist in season 2, but that's my opinion.
Anyways, season 2 Charlie was a whole bunch of character assassination. We immediately move on from her mourning Pentious (WHICH I DID LIKE, INITIALLY), to being totally selfish in her actions. Girl, if your lifelong dream has been proven to be possible, why would you focus on what a random tv dude is saying about you instead of helping those who actually believe in your dream? And to add to that, WHY are you making the same mistakes with Angel, why are you disrespecting his boundaries over and over again???
Vaggi is there breaking her back by managing her hotel, HER DREAM, and she doesn't appreciate any of that because she's so focused on clearing her image, WHICH WASN'T EVEN WELL-PERCEIVED IN THE FIRST PLACE. ALSO, SHE DIDN'T EVEN CARE THAT ALASTOR GOT KIDNAPPED, she was BLAMING HIM for getting kidnapped, instead of doing something about it when she was right there????
She's an idiot in season 2, she's incompetent, frustrating, ineffective, she doesn't feel like a protagonist at all. And I would give her the benefit of the doubt, given that everyone in season 2 was idiotized to make Vox succeed, but I don't really feel like it.
I don't expect anything grand from Hazbin Hotel, given that so far it's been presented as a rushed, male-led, unfulfilling show, to me. But hey! I can stil enjoy some of it, it gives me inspiration to draw.
To be honest, I'm in a love-hate relationship with Hazbin Hotel. I LOVE the concepts, I love what it could be, but i hate what it is.
Nevertheless, I'll still love Charlie with all my heart, I still want to see more of her in the upcoming seasons. Free me /j
