I could write a whole essay on the fandoms relationship to Damien, but I think a lot of it comes from him being relatable, good spirited, and like sweet? He has created a safe space around himself but I also think a lot of folks forget that he is a professional actor, he has experience and 100% is not completely the person he is online. There is a lot of work that goes into cultivating an Internet personality especially one as pure as Damien’s. And like ngl this is a realization I had driving to work the other day and I was like, wow he’s either really really good at his job or I’m a damn fool.

Online personalities like that lend themselves so wonderfully to parasocial relationships especially for people in the age range of smosh viewers, and I know a lot of Damien’s fans are very sweet and try to take after what he preaches but there are a lot that think they have some claim to him or his personal life.

I don’t want this to get misread as Damien slander or an attack on his fans at large (I am so very clearly one) but I do find it interesting because he is kind of an anomaly within smosh as far as stans go
