I forgot I wanted to share this other quote from Cory Midgarden that was shared on Instagram about the future of Smosh.
Very interesting to me that the employees get to propose formats and ideas! I think that helps issues like how Tommy was an editor for so long while also have many good ideas and skills for being on cast and that left him feeling underappreciated.

The thing is even with him there's not really been a big change in terms of format or introduction of any new formats in videos. Bit city and Smosh Alike aside, where different formats are both experimental improv and a bid to find their footing respectively, most of it is just the same. There's nothing new on Pit or Games. In fact, Games videos are just getting shorter which doesn't work with a lot of games that require at least 2 rounds, to gain some sort of flow. They have nixed the Wednesday upload for at least till they officially make some sort of announcement. It seems like the new cast is going to be introduced one by one with the og cast in videos now. I don't really see any other substantial changes, even the increase in ads is more of an inconvenience.
I truly think they have done away with the Wednesday Games upload for now to divert our attention to Smoshalike which often posts on Wednesdays banking on the parasocial relationships of wanting to see the Smosh cast in a new video versus no video with them at all.
Hate the way they've been doing ads. I understand sponsorship is definitely needed. I don't mind one ad at the beginning of a video the way they are doing it now with Reddit Stories is so crappy and annoying.
