so, i’m part of a harry potter rp focusing on a few teams from the quidditch league of britain & ireland. you can write as a player, a reporter/photographer, a manager, or come up with something all on your own. i write eliza blythe, the former star keeper of the chudley cannons. she suffered an injury during the playoffs that left her unable to play and the team won its first championship in a million years without her, so she’s doing just great, thanks! she works as their equipment manager now and still yells at the refs as much as when she was playing.
The 2018 quidditch season finally upon us and you had better believe that we’re excited. For those of you who didn’t follow the developments last year, you missed out on one incredible season! Our league’s underdogs for the past one hundred and fifty years managed to nab themselves a spot in the playoffs. Not only that, dear readers, but they went on to absolutely demolish Puddlemere United and take the World Cup in the championship game. That’s right, folks, I’m talking about our very own Chudley Cannons. They’re the team everyone either loves or loves to mock, and they’ve finally managed to do what everyone thought was unthinkable. Snatching the snitch right out from under Puddlemere United’s nose was phenomenal enough, but we’re happy to report that the Cannons didn’t let the quaffle drop in the off-season, either! I’ve personally attended some of their practices, and I feel confident in saying that the Cannons have found something that works for them and they’re doing their best to hold onto it.
Even if you don’t follow quidditch as religiously as we do, you’re probably familiar with the bold claims that Puddlemere United made last season. Let me take you back to their Christmas gala, in case you forgot to toss those memories into the old pensieve. Puddlemere’s owners, managers and players were telling everyone – - and reader, I do mean everyone - – that the cup would be theirs in May. It wasn’t. Once the crying had stopped and they were capable of picking their jaws up off the floor, Puddlemere entered the off-season with a more secretive approach by falling away from the prying eyes of the press. On the few occasions that I did get to see them practice, it looked as if they’d done something of a major revamp. And good for them! It never hurts to get back to basics, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s enjoyed watching them eat their share of humble pie.
I’m not finished yet, reader! Don’t think for a second that this is the only rivalry to crop up over the past season. Need I remind you that the Falmouth Falcons laid waste to the Ballycastle Batsin a match that knocked the Bats out of the running from even being in the tournament bracket? Our ears are still ringing from Ballycastle’s cries of foul play, and we here at Quidditch Daily had a delightful time reporting on the investigation that the Department of Magical Games and Sports had to conduct after the The Great Ballycastle Temper Tantrum. Can we really blame them, though? We were just as shocked as Barny the Fruitbat when Falmouth eviscerated the “second most successful team in the league.”
Of course, we wouldn’t leave you before we talk about the Falmouth Falcons. You either love them or hate this team. They’re violent, aggressive, and they don’t care to use force to win a game. Their current roster is pretty solid, but we’re on the edge of our seats while we wait to see if they can last through the season without any significant suspensions. And that’s the appeal of Falmouth, isn’t it? Turn up your nose all you want, but you’ve got to admit that they put on a great show. They got a real taste of victory when they made it to the semi-finals last year, and it seems they’ve got their eye set on nothing short of the World Cup this season.
We had a historic season last year, readers, and the tension between these four teams is positively electric. There were some significant change-ups after each team evaluated their progress, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t love it! If last year taught us anything, it’s that nothing is certain in the world of professional quidditch. The Quidditch World Cup hangs in the balance, and we’re all incredibly eager to see who will take home the trophy and the bragging rights that go along with it.
This is going to be a season like no other, and I cannot wait to fly alongside these teams in order to keep all of you updated along the way!
