they’re going up a hill, the others chatting amongst themselves while clarke stays silent and always two steps behind the rest of the group. even miller is more integrated than she is, though she knows it’s only because he has jackson by his side. she hears gravel be smashed by feet but doesn’t dare to look up from her own. her fingers tighten their grip on the backpack strap as she waits for yet another snide comment— she just hopes they don’t mention madi again. when nothing comes, clarke looks to her right and is only half-surprised to see bellamy. she remains silent for a little longer, just walking and occasionally admiring the plant life around them. “ i was too slow. ” clarke’s voice is nothing but a whisper when she finally decides to speak. “ if i’d ran just a little faster... ” shaw could still be alive. raven wouldn’t have another reason to hate her.
