Knight in Golden Fleece

When he turned to face her, Shara no longer had any more doubts. It⊠really was Micah, with his familiar smile and radiant eyes. His face looked a little older than she last recalled, but it was truly the same boy that Shara come to care so deeply for over the last decade of her life. Though she had been fearing for her life just a few moments ago, the sight of her childhood friend was enough to wash away all the fear that had previously been instilled in her.
However, the unintentionally cold words that fell out of his mouth next would make Sharaâs chest twist in a way that no blade could ever manage to achieve. âYou donât⊠know who I am?â Shara repeated as her voice grew unsteadier.
Was this some kind of cruel joke?Â
âIâve been looking for you for so long..! How could you even say something like that!?â Tears began rolling down her flushed cheeks before she could even realize. âWhen you didnât s-send me anything, I was so worried..! I-I thought⊠I thought you might have been dead, Micah!âÂ
Shara balled her hands into small fists as she crouched over the ground, shoulders quivering with each sob that passed her. âY-you run off to some place I donât know, and now you pretend you donât even know who I am!? H-how⊠how do you think that makes me feel right now!?âÂ
Everything was happening a bit too fast for his liking. He didnât expect to find someone that knew him from before his life here-- And he didnât even know how to deal with it. Everyone he had met on this island had treated him as someone new. They didnât know him from the past. And yet what he feared came true-- someone that knew him previously got hurt.
How many more people would he find like this?
Before he could even say sorry, the girl started crying, yelling at him at how cruel he was. Micah found it hurting deeper than he thought he would. Of course, when you find someone upset at you youâd be hurt, but... It was something about her, and the words that she said... It hurt more. More than he could ever imagine.
So he found himself kneeling next to her and moving his hand to touch her- pat her shoulder, rub her back, something- but caught himself before he could. It would be too cruel to treat her with such familiarity, the same exact thing that had been lost between them. Instead, Micah hung his head. Looking at her was far too painful, even hearing her sob was just too painful.
He tried finding a way to explain to her what had happened, but every time he opened his mouth, words had failed him. All he could muster was a weak, âIâm sorry.â There was a long pause, before he was able to speak again.
âItâs... Itâs not a joke. Iâm sorry that I hurt you,â he began, unsure of the words he used, âsorry that you spent so long trying to find me, sorry that you thought I was dead. I never meant to, I wouldnât want to do that to any of my friends.â Were they even friends? He didnât know, he was starting to apologize for things he couldnât control. âBut... I lost my memory when I woke up here. I really donât know who you are. Iâm... Iâm sure I would have sent something if I did know.â
Micah sighed. âIâm sorry.... But Iâm glad that... That youâre safe?â It came out more as a question than anything. The reason why he was here in the first place was to save her from an orc, after all.
