the sea side town of PORTHAVEN was once one of peace, trade was strong & the people blossomed, children played barefoot in the sands & doors were left open, unlocked as their occupants held naught but trust for their neighbours. but now the soft salt breeze laced with traces of iron scent, the cobbles of the roads stained with rain washed bloodshed & the only trade remaining was one controlled by the steady flow of black market leaders.
THE ‘ PORT MAFIA ‘ they named themselves, a term derived from a world far away from their own & that easily struck fear into the fiercest of men—— not even the king in all his somewhat arrogant confidence dared make too much of an effort to put a halt to their business. take from the poor to keep for themselves, kill all who oppose. that seemed to be what they were all about, high skilled wizards, sorcerers ( & esses ) that dappled their hands in the dark arts right the way up to their elbows. surely, even their very HEARTS were black by this stage.
one particular man of note was a rather sickly individual, deathly pale with sunken eyes & a terrible cough that plagued him always. dressed in darkness, a charmed coat of black that ran to the floor, white ruffles at collar & cuff visible from the shirt beneath; quite akin to a crow some say... a carrion crow.
& in his path was where sophie found herself. shuffling her way down the alleys on her way to the porthaven castle door, taking a route meant to be of least trouble & conflict—— yet here she was, as was he, together & alone. he was menacing, sophie couldn’t help but silently wish HOWL was at her side.
“ please —— i have no quarrel with you. let me pass. “
