Probably permanent hiatus
The Outlander fandom has never been a particularly easy one to be a part of. The bullying and the in-fighting are outrageous, worse than I’ve ever seen in any other fandom (and worse by people who should definitely know better). But, it’s been okay over in this little corner, pretty easy to ignore the worst of it so long as you don’t stray into the tags or onto the wrong blogs. That’s always been my tactic here, concentrate on doing what I love doing and love the parts of the fandom that I love.
Today, I find I can’t do that anymore. With all the shit that went down 2 days ago and the response to it, I’ve found that I can’t now support Outlander or be a part of this fandom anymore. I cannot be a part of a fandom where harrassing and bullying of its fans by “friends” of the main actor is condoned (sorry but sweeping it under the rug is condoning it in my book, and Sam’s tweet was most definitely victim blaming sorry not sorry). Even if I was not directly involved and it’s not my section of the fandom that was attacked, I’m still outraged and disappointed. Unless something miraculous happens in the future, I’ll no longer be supporting Outlander by watching it, buying further books nor partaking in the fandom. I know it’ll make no difference in the grand scheme of things but it’ll make me feel better.
Thank you to everyone who has made this blog special - from those who have written with me here, to those who just pop up every once in a while for a chat. I appreciate and love you all. If you wish to keep in contact with me, you can pop up on IM for my skype or find me on my shiny new personal blog which I encourage you all to follow just for my trash.
