introductory post !!

Hi !! My name is Meabh and welcome to my Pokémon blog :)) I find that when I post about Pokémon on the internet or try to talk about it with friends sometimes it sorta falls on deaf ears, so this is my journal slash dumping ground for any and all things Pokémon! 🩵

About me:

I'm a queer autistic trans woman with a special interest in Pokémon, I'm currently working on a shiny living dex in Pokémon home which I'll be posting little updates for every time I find a shiny !! I want to treat this like a little scrapbook/diary for my Pokémon journey, detailing every shiny Pokémon I get, how long it took to find or what game I got it in. Outside of this blog and playing Pokémon I am a content creator, I am aiming to soon start making funny Nintendo based video-essay-ish YouTube videos and I sometimes stream on twitch. I would like this blog to be a separate entity from my content stuff though so I won't be bringing that up too much. In terms of Pokémon games, I've been a fan since 2016 and currently I own Red/Blue & Gold VC, Diamond, White1/2, X, Omega Ruby, all 4 USUM/SM, LGE, Shield, Arceus, BD and Violet, and I have two 3DS, one DSi and one Switch.

I play a lot of Pokémon GO and love taking AR photos, so I might feature some of those shots as well as my finds:) I am also a casual Pokémon TCG collector, I like buying cheap but cute cards on eBay to build up a nice collection without breaking the bank. I play a lot of TCG Pocket, so expect some ramblings about that too.

🏙️My Kalos Tour was so generous!✨

Hi y'all. I haven't posted in a while because I haven't been playing the mainline games very much. However, I've been deep in the Pokemon GO trenches so I thought I'd show off some highlights from last week!

Road to Kalos highlights!

Before the actual Kalos Tour, we had a bunch of legendaries returning with some gorgeous backgrounds that I had to collect. I managed to get them all apart from the gen 5 bunch and two of the kanto birds, but I didn't really want those ones all that much. Here's some of my best from the week, including (finally) my first pretty-good Kyogre! I nearly sunk a lot of passes into getting a shiny background, but the game gave me a 98 before I could make that mistake. Also, the new Pikas are so cute.

GO Tour Kalos!

Here's where things got even more exciting... I couldn't believe my eyes when I got a hundo Fennekin out of the timed research! AND the background matches so well!! Mega Delphox will be the #1 fire attacker when it debuts, so I'm super thrilled. On top of that, I got a shiny Honedge on my second encounter from some field research!? I heard of people who spend on the game going absolutely crazy for this Pokémon, I can't believe my luck considering all I bought was the ticket. 🥲

And CHECK OUT MY DRAGONITE!

I was looking to do a lucky trade with someone for a shiny Dratini because I am OBSESSED with shiny mega Dragonite and I didn't have any with good stats. After a few raids of mega Dragonite I got a shiny and I was lucky enough to get the special background on her too!! I adore the light blue on this Pokémon and I'm totally gonna best buddy it. I'm not a fan of the 5000 energy "super max" mega stuff, feels like just another useless thing for whales to sink their money into... but regardless I'm pretty happy with what I've got!

Here's the rest of my findings, I was totally exhausted from writing an essay all night before day 2 so I just did a remote mega Malamar raid and chilled out. I hope I can post more soon because I had a really fun Pokémon Day at my local card store and would love to show off some of the stuff I got. I also maxed out my Kalos dex because Hawlucha was in eggs but I have no more space for photos. 🫠

💚Z-A Shalphas and shinies already!✨

(no spoilers)

I've had my hands on Z-A since release and it's safe to say I'm loving it! I haven't completed the story for a few reasons, but the main one was this diva:

This is Mauley the Mawile, he took 2 days to show up and my stubborn self decided I had to get him before continuing the story.

Wild zone 9 drove me insane over the weekend as I ran back and forth for hours trying to find the Mawile. On my way, I managed to find a few new non-mawile friends, since I started using the AFK bench method when I was busy and didn't want to spend my free time running in circles.

3 Fletchinder and 2 Pidgey decided to fly on by, I don't have any shinies of the Pidgeot line so can't complain too much.

A couple Sableyes showed up before Mawile, which made me mad because I don't like Sableye... don't hurt me he just annoys me!

These are the big ones though:

Shalphas! And 2 very cute ones at that. For being alpha Pokémon they are not very big but they're trying their best. I screamed when I got the Espurr, he's adorable and I will never evolve him🩷. And of course Carbink has an incredible shiny, I did get a regular shiny Carbink on top of that.

Plentiful harvest at the shiny factory! I can't say I totally enjoy how shiny hunting can be fully automated using a turbo controller so I don't think I'll be doing it again. I just wanted to get Mawile because I've been itching to finish the story and I refused to give up. The game itself is super fun, I love the battling, setting, music and characters so much. Hopefully more cool hunts to come from Legends Z-A!

🦋Shiny Vivillons around the world!🗺️

Earlier this year, I decided that my pride month hunt would be every Vivillon variant available in Scarlet/Violet, and it's shiny form!

This hunt was a pretty special one because I got to choose my own postcards from Pokémon GO for the places I've been in real life. The naming scheme is the form name for the non shiny, and the location of the postcard used to spawn that type of Vivillon for the shiny version! Cork, Croatia, Iceland, Bruxelles and New York are all the ones I had myself.

My favourite part of this hunt was catching them all in matching PokéBalls, I got a ton of apricorn balls from the item printer in the indigo disk and honestly it was so worth it. It was also really fun seeing what marks I could get along the way too! Here's the highlights.

It's been a while since I've posted! The Tumblr app keeps deleting my drafts every time I try and post which has been super demotivating alongside generally bad mental health and other stuff going on. Z-A is coming out soon, and I'm SO excited! I'm not too sure how shiny hunting will be, but I'm thrilled nonetheless. Hopefully this one actually uploads and I'll see ya soon with more stuff!

I've underestimated Kalos!🌃✨

I got my copy of Pokémon X in 2017 and it was the third Pokémon game that I played in full it's at dormant in my 3DS case as I continued to grind out gen 7 and as we entered the switch era, but I decided to pick it up and try out some of the shiny hunting methods available!

As an avid Johnstone "hatewatcher" I thought it would be a great time to take part in his Friend Safari Weekend event, so I added up some of his community on my 3ds and got to work! Above are my finds during the actual weekend which I'm super happy to get since I was kinda busy, and below are a couple of Spritzee I got a week before the event. The odds for finding shinies really took me by surprise in the Friend Safari considering I didn't know about it's existance a while ago, and I found them all to be really enjoyable hunts.

I also decided to try my hand at chain fishing recently, I kinda enjoy it! It can be tedious but relatively easy, and I got a new shiny from it too in the form of Padraig the Clauncher (named by my friend). Definitely gonna do some more to fill out the water types in the dex.

Finally, this Pokémon may have driven me insane. I went on a girls trip to Cork and decided to try out some horde hunting, and thinking it wouldn't take too long, I was totally disproven...

This is Fiesta, the Mime Jr.

It's named Fiesta since the car my friend drove on the trip was a Ford Fiesta, and it's characteristic is that it likes to take siestas. Fitting considering the countless amount of times I fell asleep in said car while hunting him (I am chronically eepy). It took me the whole car journey's worth of hunting during the trip and even in our AirBnB for a little on our last night, which was probably about 11 hours total to get him. I'm confident I went over odds but since I often don't track encounters, who knows.

I meant to post this days ago but Tumblr just wouldn't let me post it on my phone so here I am on PC!! I got all the shinies from the bug event but this is the 4th time I'm retyping this so I do not have the energy to talk about it haha. I also got my Switch 2 from Amazon on Sunday (late)! Scarlet and Violet play so smoothly, I'm sure I'll make a post about that eventually as I bought Scarlet for cheap on eBay so I could grab the other paradox Pokémon since I've only played Violet. In other news, for pride month I'm planning on getting every Vivillon pattern and it's shiny in SV, as I realised it's pretty easy to send the postcards over from Pokémon GO. As well as filling out the Shiny Living Dex I wanna have nice boxes of cool collections like the Vivillons so they will be my first project. I will post again soon maybe!!

blast from the past !!🐉✨

Always hatch all of your eggs!! Watching Johnstone's stream the other day inspired me to go and hatch all the old eggs sitting in my Pokémon Shield boxes.

Amidst a sea of Eevees and some Cottonee, I managed to unearth a shiny Dreepy in an egg that's been sitting in my boxes for years! I did complete this hunt and get the shiny competitive Dragapult that I was aiming for back then, but who knew there was another one waiting for me?

Dude was probably bored as hell in that egg. Meet Capsule, all the way from 2020!

late golden week shinies! 💛✨

this event ended a while ago but I managed to bag one of every guy from the event!

Nothing much to add here, apart from to say that these shiny mass outbreak events are super helpful for completing my shiny dex. Soon I ought to put all my shinies in National Dex order in HOME so I can do a little tally after every shiny.

Soon I'll make a post about shiny Gimmighoul and Gholdengo, cus I got a lot more to say about those guys 👀

And, I'm finally doing my first 1/8192 hunt! Since I finally played through White 2 for the first time and had a blast, I decided I'd get my Latias from this really cool encounter. After this, I'm gonna get the static Volcarona. This'll totally be a background hunt as I have been hyperfixating on Animal Crossing and want to do other things so I'm ready for it to take maybe months.

a very special shiny magcargo line <3

Since I started back at uni this semester, I've met the most amazing girl who I'm now lucky enough to call my girlfriend🏳️‍🌈:) Before we dated she knew very little about Pokémon, but has now started playing TCG Pocket and likes using slugma/magcargo in her deck.

We took a trip to The Giant's Causeway in County Antrim today, and I had my switch with me since it was a long journey. As we sat on the hexagonal rocks of the Irish northern coast, we had a bunch of time to kill so we just chilled there and did some parallel play in the most beautiful scenery possible. She read her book, and I thought it'd be a nice place to get some Pokémon she likes for my shiny living dex. Behold, the location I caught my most recent shinies for the dex:

Since the formation of the Giant's Causeway's rocks were caused by underwater volcanic activity, and since I was spending time with my favourite lava slug enjoyer, it was a kinda perfect place to get 'em done. Say hi to Causeway the Slugma and Allie the Magcargo (and yes i used Love Balls😊). Since I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to do any dynamax adventure hunts for #DAWeekend but that's a task for tomorrow, maybe. I'll keep you posted! 🩵✨

for the love of stardust⭐

Morelull spotlight hour yesterday was unmissable for me, personally I think it was worth burning through all of my razz berries and pokeballs. 🫠

Double stardust on top of Morelull's 500 base stardust and a star piece meant 1 caught equated to 1500 stardust unweather-boosted. They were tricky to catch, but I say it was well worth :)

big guy caught!

I'm usually not a big fan of the max battles in Pokémon Go. I've never thought it was worth a trip into town and attempting to congregate a group to raid with, since the feature isn't really that important to me. Mostly because it's really reliant on being with other people and thanks to my social anxiety and the fact that the community for Belfast isn't too major, meant I couldn't really get into it.

Though today I was already in town and had known about the raid day and decided to chance my arm and see if I can slip in to a raid. Gigantamax Snorlax is one of my favourite designs for a Pokémon ever (I think gmax mons are quite overlooked) and really wanted to snag one for my collection. Not even looking for good IVs or usefulness in the max battles, just wanted one of the guy in my collection to look at.

After a 10 minute wander around city centre, a party started to form at a max raid spot that I had to jog a little to get to. I got in with 17 other people and successfully caught myself the big guy :DD was pretty weird because I didn't find the party of people I was raiding with, they must've walked off as soon as they queued which was a bit of a bummer, but I was happy. 🩵✨

Could've got a lift home after getting the last train of the night, but I'm glad I walked. My daily adventure incense decided to give me a couple treats!

I just discarded about 10 gifts that were clogging up my storage, I've kept them for years as souvenirs from my travels to different countries like NYC, Italy, Croatia, some really nice gifts. Decided that I need to lock in to gifting friends on Pokémon GO and get some much needed storage for that, but there's one gift that I just do not have the heart to get rid of. It's too perfect and it will remain in my bag forever. I can't believe I have something of this comedic value in game.

Finally, redemption !!

After my nearly 9 long years of playing Pokémon Go, I've finally registered Tauros to my Pokédex.

I do live in Ireland but this isn't my first time encountering a Tauros. When I was on a school trip to New York City in 2019 I found a Tauros in Central Park, but the cell signal was so terrible that our group had walked on before the game could load the encounter 🫠 it had like 3 minutes to load and was the only one I saw on the whole trip!!

This lets me finally move on with my masterwork research to get my shiny Mew in GO, which is my fav shiny if you couldn't tell so I'm very pleased 🩵

these are some of my favourite shiny forms of a lot less popular pokemon that I think make them look really good (please look at gossifleur and hattrem, we don't talk about these divas enough)
