Souji and Hajime’s final moments…Щ(º̩̩́Дº̩̩̀щ)
Some of Luka’s many chibi faces
Not to be dramatic or something but I’d die for this man.

❝ a man is an animal, too. ❞
legend of zelda starters. @hanahaken
A marvelous spring day calls for grooming. The horses enjoyed time out from their stables and time in the sunshine. Saisuke takes this time to brush out Yukimaru's mane with a hum. Perhaps a song he heard from the maiko of the teahouse the group recently visited.
"Hm?" The captain's comment catches him off-guard for a moment. "You're correct, Okita-san. Man is an animal and many of them are far less intelligent than an average dog. Isn't that right, Yuki-chan?" Saisuke coos up at the white mare in complete adoration.
"Horses are much better in comparison!"
Like a cat stalking up on a mouse, Souji is sneaking up on Saisuke. It's his favorite past time. ". . . why hello there~"
@akumanoken
Too invested in taking inventory of their feed, his senses are dulled to the oncoming attack. Much to Saisuke's own disappointment, he doesn't notice Okita's presence until it was too late. A chill runs down his spine and before he is able to turn around, Okita is upon him.
"O-Okita-san!" The yelp is inelegant and embarrassing all at once. Saisuke clears his throat and turns towards the captain with a frown. "You should be resting. If there's something you need, you could ask the pages. Or me, if they are unavailable."
With a sigh, he places the checklist aside and goes to usher Okita towards the dormitories. "Fukuchou specifically told me to make sure you rest."
-Battlefield- (Open Starter)
Dark fog covered the field, giving an disadvantage to both sides. Dusk began ascending down from the skies. The stench of iron filled the air, more and more casualties continued to increase. Soon armies would have to withdraw for the time being, neither would be able to move forward.
SWOOSH. The sound of a katana slicing through air to mark it’s victim could be heard, but no contact ever came. Dodging the attack, the dark haired figure flipped out of the way, landing in a crouched position behind her assailant. With a swift motion, she unsheathed her kodachi and plunged it into the back of her victim. Once she heard the thud of his body hit the grass she continued onward through the mass of warriors.
The more further ahead to the frontlines the female made, the more she became aware of the enemies surrounding her. Coming to a halt, golden orbs glanced around her line of sight. A smirk made its way up to her lips. Think cornering me will win in your favor, hm? The kunoichi readied her body in a defensive stance.
The sounds of pained grunts and bodies thudding to the ground alerted her senses. A familiar presence leaned against her back. Quickly glancing over her shoulder, she acknowledged the person she was not expecting to appear on this battlefield. Their blade soaked in the blade of the samurai that had swarmed behind her.
“You finally decided to join.”
Iron and rust pain an impressionistic array of crimson blossoms upon fabrics of white and azure. The heady aroma of death fill the walls of his lungs with each breath. Metal moves through bodies like liquid, cutting through the opposition with silent grace. Sent to scout ahead, the seventh and second divisions were not too far behind him. Saisuke had decided to leave Yukimaru behind at their temporary base to better move about the battlefield.
A familiar silhouette catches discerning eyes, alighting a flicker of recognition. With a single, swift movement Saisuke plunges the wakizashi deep into the renegade’s back. Quick footwork makes light of the oncoming barrage of untrained swings. Thin metal barbs make their way into the soft eye sockets, blinding his assailant. The investigator uses the man’s shocked screams to fell him once and for all.
His back presses against a familiar warmth. Her quick quip elicits a laugh from Saisuke as he stands poised, ready for another attack.
“I think you are the one who’s late, Tsuki-san. I, for one, have been culling the herd for quite some time.”
Saisuke moves away from her to block the next incoming swing. He twists, turning the blade upon the man before decapitating him completely. “It seems your skills have dulled since we last met. Are these ruffians giving you so much trouble?”
For shame, Amaya.

Eyewitnesses of Hijikata’s death
I already wrote here that I found a letter to the relatives of Hijikata informing him of his death. It was written by Yasutomi Sayske, it is addressed to Hijikate Hayato. The letter is very detailed, it contains the whole route of the Hijikata from Edo to Ezo, starting from Utsunomiya Castle and ending with Hakodate. And sad. “Killed in battle” … “was ready to die” … “accept my sincere condolences” … It is in Old Japanese, I already wrote an interlocutor to him, but I still have to make fun of him when my ability to think normally returns to my head . In the meantime, I’m spreading out what was easier to translate, but no less interesting: biographies of people associated with this letter, who until the last were next to Hijikata. Source - Japan.

Saisuke??????
He has been found.
Yasutomi Saisuke [shinsengumi-no-makoto]
He joined the group in October of 1865 and was made a teacher of horsemanship. After Toba-Fushimi he was moved to the accounting division. It appears that he was separated from the group during the retreat from Kofu and so went straight to Aizu. He was later reunited there with Hijikata and followed him to Hakodate, where he served as one of the vice-commander’s aides.
Yasutomi was with Hijikata when he was killed on May 11, 1869. According to some stories, he carried the vice-commander’s body back to Goryokaku for burial. Of course this is only one of many accounts of what happened to Hijikata’s remains and Yasutomi noticeably did not confirm this story in the letter he wrote to the Sato family.
In this letter, Yasutomi details Hijikata’s final moments. He gave it to one Tachikawa Chikara and instructed him to carry it to the Sato family in Hino. Yasutomi then surrendered to the Meiji government troops.
He was released in Edo in 1870. Unfortunately it is said that shortly afterwards he was murdered by Abe Juro. He was about 31 at the time of his death.

“Saisuke???” He’s excited, it’s his favorite prey friend!!!
His voice was incredulous as if the captain hadn’t expected him back. Did he think he was dead? Probably. It’s been ages since Saisuke had returned to the compound after all. “Good afternoon, Okita-kumichou. Yasutomi Saisuke has returned from an assignment.”
Belated. Very belated.
