lillian hadn’t ever been the greatest at detecting sarcasm. and maybe that was for the best─ otherwise the boy’s words might prove to be a much harsher blow on her than they already were. she figured his unkind tone was simply due to the fright he’d gotten when her kabuto approached out of nowhere. the sarcasm that laced his tone went mostly over her head─ as most of it did.
her eyes lit up as he offered to grant crusher his meal. the pokémon in question clicked happily, his small claws waving back and forth in delight. even the tiny orbs that were his eyes narrowed with glee. lillian, too, smiled, happily taking the food and placing it on the ground, placing kabuto down right after and letting him eat freely.
❝thank you, thank you!❞ she chirped happily, clasping her hands together. she bowed her head slightly in response, as well. ❝crusher likes it, too! i’ll have to take some notes on his preference, i haven’t worked with many fossil pokémon before… it’s interesting how certain food has him so much more interested.❞ she was mostly talking to herself, vocalizing the thoughts that came naturally to her as a breeder.
she was snapped out of her thoughts when the boy called out a pokémon of his own. ❝oh! your meowth is adorable!❞ she cooed, smile widening. but her expression dropped slightly at the next amount of words.
❝a-ah, well, i should have been keeping a better eye out! that was my bad! sometimes i get really wrapped up in things…❞ her words trailed off slightly. of all the things he’d said, it hit her that she was at fault for letting him wander off. something bad could have happened!
❝u-uhm! here! hold on a sec!❞ she rummaged through her bag as she spoke before pulling out a bag of pokémon treats, holding it out to the boy with a smile, ❝for your meowth! as thanks for the food! i made it myself. see, i’m a breeder! well, in training, anyway… and it’s made with special berries and vitamins to taste good, but also keep pokémon super healthy! especially their coats! i can always make more!❞ ah, there’s her habit of info dumping. surely he needed half the given information, but nonetheless. lillian held the bag out with a smile, hoping to finally make amends.

Oswald’s dismissal is evident in the way he turns his gaze, hazel hues staring off blankly across the park; the praise given for proffering his meal completely going over his head. The Breeder’s rambling seems to go in one ear and out the other, barely even a sigh escaping the man let alone a snarky comment about fossilized Pokemon with the appearance of insects. Perhaps he was attempting to be a bigger man, to bite his tongue and his disgust--...or, perhaps he really just was not listening.
The only thing that seems to regain his attention is the cooing directed toward that affectionate feline-like Pokemon, to which said Meowth seems to be eating it up. The Pokemon mews and stretches, its long tail dragging about Oswald’s ankle before stepping up toward Lillian herself, wide, blue eyes seeking her attention now.
The coordinator grimaces faintly at that seeking Meowth, though, allows the feline to do as it pleased, instead, locking sight with the talkative stranger.
“If you are too PREOCCUPIED to watch your Pokemon, keep them out of sight, or do not keep them at all.”
Another tooth baring sneer is aimed to the shellfish devouring his recent meal, at this point, irritated more so that he had to give it up to get the beast away from him. He would rather it distracted than attempting to crawl up his leg. The offering of what he could only assume to be peace gains an upturned nose, wary almost; as if she aimed to sicken his companions rather than strengthen them.
Even so, slender fingers reach forward to accept the gift, digits curling around the bag in a tight grip. Once pulling it closer to his form, its opened to delve two fingers inside, plucking one of the treats to glance it over with scrutiny.
“...I am gracious, I suppose, if it is as good as you say. If it does not poison my Pokemon, that is.”
And there’s the snark.
