Pressure and Stretch
After the smaller series of 'Spine X6' I have decided to go much larger in scale creating my own canvas. I covered the frame with two pieces of canvas that met in the middle. I was then able to tear the canvas pulling it tighter and tying it together. To secure the knots I put pins through them so they would not become loose. I smothered the canvas with water so that where it was bound in the middle it would seep and bleed out. Creating the nature of the scar like in Sophie Ristelhueber 'No.4' photo.
Size: 1mX1m
Media: Canvas, pin and drawing ink.
Evolving Splash No.2
repeated process of using ink works that were the result of the dripping ink from the process of 'Image within an Image'. The paper was scrap and left on the floor to capture the pools of ink running down the painting. I used a pattern of a woven basket in my house as reference when working into the ink.
Size:830mmX587mm
Media: Brusho ink, drawing ink, coloured pencils and Conté
Evolving Splash
These ink works were the result of the dripping ink from the process of 'Image within an Image'. The paper was scrap and left on the floor to capture the pools of ink running down the painting. When the splash was dried I worked into the scrap. For this piece I scraped into the ink pulling through the original pink paper behind it scratching a pattern in the paper. I then stitched the papers together with the wool used in 'Spine X6'.
Size: 400mmX520mm
media: Drawing ink, sugar paper, Indian ink and wool.
Spine X6
Here are smaller versions of a piece I have created. This was to experiment with size and different methods of bleeding the ink feeding from Sophie Ristelhueber's work.
Size: 1085mmX514mm
Media: Drawing ink, Indian ink and wool, paper, silk polyester and cotton polyester.
Influence
This is a part of my research book. This artist is called Sophie Ristelhueber she is a big influence on my new pieces of art work. I have been looking at a series of photos she has developed into a large exhibition called 'Everybody' . Her photo 'Number 4' relates to the medium of bleeding ink. The translation I created of her black and white photo is to the right. I have sewed through the paper a spine like pattern with cotton and large needle dabbing water over the top so the ink would bleed out from where I have sewn.
Size: 295mmX207mm
Media: water, drawing ink and cotton.
Building and Understanding
Building and understanding other art work is key in processing my own art work. This is Angela De La Cruz art work 'A Painting through sculpture' influencing parts of my deconstruction and further exploration. Here I have pushed the paper uncovering many different angles created by the folds. I then brushed pink acrylic over the top the folds elaborating on the colour which leaves white lines where the paper folds come out of the picture, emphasising the sense of 3D.
size: 295mmX207mm
Media: paper and acrylic paint.
Image Within an Image
Image Within an Image was an idea I wanted to enhance from 'Deconstruction No.2'. I wanted this portrait to be and image lost with in its media. The face is symbolic of identity, through Foundation Art and Design course the mediums identity has been key to all art work to understand process.
Size: 830mmX 587mm
Media: drawing ink and watered emulsion.
Further Exploration of Deconstruction
This is a development of 'Deconstruction no.2'. The development was to make the piece bigger in size and intractable. The structure is made from card so from drilling through the middle and placing a bolt through the hole, the piece is able to move creating many shapes. Here are a few examples recorded in my log book.
Size: 3320mmX1200mm
media: card, emulsion and metal bolt.
Deconstruction No.2
A fine art project to destroy a favourite piece of art work that I had created. For this project I used one of my oil pastel life drawings. I dripped drawing ink over the top of it using the colours blue, white and yellow covering all the surface. I then cut the paper and it fall in shape I pined it together. I had discovered you could still see part of the figure, creating an image within the image.
Size: 1660mmX600mm
Media: oil pastel and drawing ink.
Industrial Combined With Nature
This is part of a project discovering the different properties of a man made object and a natural object. By documenting numerous drawings of the two objects (to the left 'natural' object) I was able to combined their properties together creating and obscure alien object (drawing to the right).
Size: 830mmX587mm sketch book
Media: emulsion, drawing ink, tracing paper, Conté, black fine liner.
Texture and Surface
These are chopped paintings created into weaves, exploring complimenting colours and textures created. These have been placed into my basic design sketchbook.
Size: 210mmX165mm each
media: different paper surface and emulsion paint
Basic Design Circle and Squares
Created by experimenting with different media and the different lines created through that media. circles cut and measured equally to create repetitive images within images.
Size: 830mmX587mm
Media: Biro, Marker Pen, Conté (black and white), chalk, oil pastel, wax crayon, pencil, Willow Charcoal, Indian ink, drawing ink and watered down emulsion black and white paint
Dark Corner
This drawing's assignment was to draw a 'dark corner' of my house into my sketch book. This image is of a candle and plant. The method of using charcoal and rubbing out the highlights with an eraser was taken under the influence of previous work 'Shapes and Shadows'. The method created a dramatic atmosphere that the drawing needs for its suited personality.
Size: 830mmX587mm
Media: Willow Charcoal.
This is a construction built in the centre of the room as a part of a life drawing session. In this session I experimented with colour, replacing black paint with a blue and used yellow for lighter areas and white for essential highlights. This particular session largely improved my understanding of colour from being in Foundation Art and Design.
Size: 830mmX587mm
Media: emulsion paint
Montage of the Female Figure
Created in a life drawing session concentrating on the female figure. The patch work of different paper surfaces tested how the Conté responded to the surface. The lines and different surfaces separate the image in to a large montage.
Size:830mmX587mm
Media: mixed paper surfaces and Conté
