Here's some photos for this weeks SNW episode!
Plus a couple Spocklaan moments.
*photos below*
Okay, I had way too much fun with Episode 3. I'm pretty sure watching this at 3am after a shift at work didn't help the giggle attack I found myself in. I needed the laughs after the terrible day I had, so im perfectly fine with that. I lost my absolute shit with Erica's reaction to Spock saying "It could be a bomb, or it could be bad avacados." And then her as a cactus nailed my coffin. I couldn't breathe. I had to pause the episode I was laughing so hard. 😆 I replayed that part an embarrassing amount of times. Holy Lower Decks in live action. This one is definitely going on my list of Trek comfort episodes.
La'an Noonien-Singh and Spock
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - s04e02 The Griffin Incident
The injustice that they look like this next episode and probably won't even interact 😔
Tell me again how La'an being lighter and having fun last season was bad.
With what she did go through in the past and is now going through, she absolutely deserved to live a bit and have a season full of fun dancing and being all mushy with Spock.
I fully agree with you. It was nice to see her let her hair down (literally and metaphorically) and smile. She's been through enough. The girl deserves a modicum of happiness in her life.
Luckily I haven't seen much of the complaints. But then again, I've blocked everyone who has lol
Thank you so much for being so positive in the strange new worlds tag. Every time we get a new season/episode, it’s nice knowing that you’re gonna be in the tag being a force for good (not complaining about SNW in the main tag).
Thank you! And you're welcome! There's too much hate and negativity in the world as it is to keep spreading more. We should hold on to the things that give us joy, no matter how small. SNW, and Star Trek at large is far from perfect, but for some, it's the only thing they have to look forward to.
A fun let's play spot the ghosts in this newest episode. There's three that show up before our main ghostie.
*kinda spoilers below*
My thoughts on "The Griffin Incident".
This is gonna be a long one so bear with me.

Whatever you encountered, the only thing that matters is that you survived."
Someone write this stat!!!
Things About The Griffin Incident
Alright, let's see if this is actually scary. As a huge horror fan, I doubt it.
Spock's sweet to try and check in with La'an's emotional state.
Ditched a visit with your son to go on a work retreat. Off to a great start of convincing me Jim's not a deadbeat dad.
Division 12 mention again. Are they going somewhere with this? Or is it another never gonna happen sequel bait?
'You mean a ghost?' 'I mean negatively charged ions.' LOL
Hey, we finally got a second kiss! Along with a 'stay safe.' <3
But let's split up? La'an girl, have you ever seen a horror movie?
'Carol and I, it's my fault really.' Yeah, that goes without saying Jimothy.
T'Pring? NGL, probably the first time Spock's thought about her since he last saw her, lol.
Okay, it's sweet that La'an thought that ghost hand was Spock and held it.
'What caused our engagement to be dissolved.' Okay, so Spock has not been cheating on her. Can we end that argument now?
Ouch! Not the ears!
There is NO WAY team Enterprise is really there. This is another hallucination. Not buying it. Not buying it.
'I had to dig through there.' Jim, the correct answer is 'it was like that when I got there.' Trust me.
Don't you have to hold on to those handle thingys to get the turbo lift to work anyway?
They definitely cast an actor who broadly resembles La'an as Harper on purpose. Just to really drive it home.
Oh poor La'an just tightly hugging hallucination Uhura. She's so terrified and vulnerable right now.
'Your heart was not in the right place.' Ha, cool.
'Your ex T'Pring.' More confirmation that Spock has been single and not cheating on T'Pring.
'What we got back didn't live long, fortunately.' I can't be the only one getting TMP vibes right.
Spock's calling everyone by their first name in this episode.
'We're gonna die out here in space like Kirks were born to do.' I mean, I guess he's not wrong.
Credit where credit's due, Sam having his insides sucked out was pretty gnarly.
Yeah girl, run that boy through! What? I don't care for Wesley's Kirk.
Pike you gotta work on your knife skills. You would be eliminated on the food network.
Awkward beam in.
Nice to see Spock and Chapel having a one on one scene together like they used to before K*rby showed up to ruin my life.
Pike is the chillest captain ever. Killed a Klingon diplomat? It's all good buddy. Tried to kill Jim Kirk? We never liked him anyway.
My heart hurts for La'an. This is gonna get worse before it gets better. She loves them all and hurting them is her nightmare.
Awww, I like the cookie callback between Kirk and Uhura. Glad to see more of their friendship as well. It's one of the very few things I do like about Wesley's Kirk. More of this please.
She is not answering for you, Jimothy. You're a terrible co-parent.
Appreciate the lack of Spirk baiting. Guess they're saving it for next week.
I really liked that. Very Event Horizon but more TV friendly. Liked it better than last week.
I really enjoyed this episode as well! Im not a huge horror fan at all, but I love thrillers, especially psychological thrillers, which, this episode leans more into. This was definitely my jam in that respect. Your genuine dislike of Paul Wesley's Kirk makes me chuckle lol Its really funny. I don't mind him. Though, I do tend to roll my eyes every time he shows up. He was good here in my opinion. But when it comes to K*rby (I will censor his name for your sake) I will gladly support your hate for him. (He should have been the one sucked into space tbh. I would have put that clip on replay.)
I, too, am worried for La'an. This is definitely a turning point for her. I was repeating "Oh no, oh no." to myself when I realized where they were going with her. Psychological thrillers are my jam because of how they tend to delve into our deepest rooted fears, natures and insecurities, and, for me, that is scarier than monsters, ghosts, etc. Facing those part of ourselves can be a terrifying experience irl.
Also, Sam Kirk having his intestines sucked out through that hole was surprisingly gory. I was impressed. We see you SNW, you can get dark. Now, calm down. Jesus. Lol
And leave it to Pike to non chalantly cover up an attempted murder. Never change.
La'an Noonien-Singh and Spock + stay safe

Spocklaan compilation list 4x01
Back with my usual mad ramblings. Warning for spoilers obviously!
I liked the episode, it was solid, it had dinosaurs and hit right in my Jurassic Park feels! I mean look at this beauty!!!
*starts humming Jurassic Park theme*
(they made the T-Rex female, of course they did!)
Even though kind of sad they missed the opportunity to give a direct shout-out to the Voth from Voyager, we know some of the dinosaurs survived in the Delta Quadrant and will evolve 🦖🦕🦖
And it's one step towards a Terra Nova crossover. Still funny I made this edit in 2023 and look where we are now - we got dinosaurs!!! Maybe I should start make a list of all the things I predicted on the show (dinosaurs, muppets, dance lessons, Spocklaan romance...)
Also the story with the conflict with the Martians felt very familiar to the storyline in the Enterprise War novel (if you read it, you know what I mean).
But let's talk about Spocklaan stuff:
Cowboy La'an looked great! Though it would have been fun to see more of the cowboy stuff. Give me La'an walking into a saloon beating up the bad guys like "this space colony isn't big enough for the both of us!" (Fanfiction when?) and La'an drinking everyone under the table again - I still need her and Spock do joint Klingon diplomacy!
The episode takes place 6 months after s3 finale, so that means La'an and Spock have been in their situationship (HR reference!!!) for at least 6 months plus the time during s3. Since each season spans roughly one year and they get together pretty early in season 3, I would say chances are good it's been almost a year since their first kiss!!! That seems long for something just casual or friends with benefits and definitely long enough to have turned into something real imo. So Spocklaan 1 year anniversary coming up!!!
THAT SCENE in the transporter room! Sadly there wasn't much other Spocklaan interaction for the rest of the episode since they were mostly apart for the mission, but THAT SCENE YA ALL!!! THAT SCENE fed me!!!
Spock being absolutely not sly when asking to take Pike's saddle and everybody immediately clocking him (M'Benga calling him out like that!) and that it's just an excuse because there was zero reason for him to be there except that he wanted to be there when La'an returns to the ship! And who wants to bet it wasn't the first time did something like this!
Spock barely able to look at Pike and M'Benga before his gaze slides right to La'an! Not subtle, Mr. Yearner! Not at all!!!
It was important for him to be there!!! Louder for the people in the back!!!
Remember the intense looks they gave each other when La'an beamed away last season! They are both yearners!!!
I love when they playfully tease each other! And just how natural this interaction felt! They've grown so comfortable! Also I feel like this was a callback to the pilot when La'an was so delighted to see Spock in shorts!
Also feels like a reverse parallel to La'an showing up in the transporter room last season telling him he looks good when Spock waited for Christine's return.
Don't worry Spock, I also wouldn't have wanted to miss seeing La'an in that cool cowboy outfit.
Also intense eye f**** moment (which is nothing new between them!)
I support them telling each other they like what they're seeing and how horny they are!
Spocklaan flirting probably at one point: (not missing a chance to insert a Community joke)
No, but really they were so so cute with their heart (horny) eyes and smiles and flirting!!! 🥰
Spocklaan flirting in front of Scotty's salad! The way he tried not to pry on them! But that's the look of a guy haunted by the knowledge his superior officers are about to get it on!
I almost pity him as much as those in the quarters next to La'an's quarter. So what do we think, how many anonymous noise complaints did La'an receive during those past months since they got together?)
La'an: Spock, we need to tone it down. There was another noise complaint. Spock: La'an, you are always louder than me. La'an:…
La'an actually being so comfortable flirting even when someone else from the crew can witness it - I love how comfortable she and Spock are in their relationship to show that! And it's growth from that scene in Ring of Fire where La'an freaked out about the crew knowing about her and Spock. Looks like she doesn't care about people gossiping about the nature of their relationship anymore. Good for her!!!
The slide of her hand from his shoulder down to take his hand was so smooth and felt like a reverse of that iconic slide of Spock's handing sliding down her arm during the Tango scene last season. But why did they have to cut the hand holding??!!! You almost glimpsed it just out of frame, but still couldn't they have included a few more seconds to show them leaving the transporter room? Yes, Scotty's looks were funny but I wanted to see the hand holding😔 At least we have the still from the episode, but still, it's a crime!!! Look at these two cutie patooties! How dare they keep that from us!!!
But also, since the fandom has decided that every time Spock holds someone's hand he's having sex (if this rule applies to shaking Kirk's hand for 3 seconds, then it applies to everyone else as well! No nitpicking!), they were already doing foray here!
Speaking of poor Scotty, always at the crime of the scene, always on transporter room duty to witness Spock's love life against his will (last season when Christina returned to the ship, now with La'an).
Is that Spock's love language? Waiting in the transporter rooms for his wife to return from war? Seems like it. Also how long do we think he's been waiting in the transporter room? Pike postponed the return to ride some more, so maybe he did have to wait and Scotty tried to do some awkward smalltalk! I hope there's an extended scene on the next dvd box.
Like I said in my other post, they totally had sex in La'an's quarters after that scene. The boots comment, the shared looks and smiles and touching was filled with too much flirtation and innuendo for nothing to happen afterwards. Good for them!!!
Still the important question remains - with or without the boots on and will there be fanfiction to answer the question? For scientific reasons only, of course 😏 (there should also be a riding joke in here)
also this confirms what's been stated in Ring of Fire, that they do have an animated sex life! And with La'an being stronger now, they're going to break all the furniture in her and Spock's quarters, aren't they? Again, fanfiction writers, this is your call!
Still working perfectly together as a team and being all professional
Speaking of La'an getting stronger - she punched a Raptor in the face!!! Bloody fantastic!!! And they gave the Raptor feathers!!!!
The episode already set up what obviously will be La'an's story arc - having to face and reconcile with her Augment heritage. And it's absolutely not coming out of nowhere! And I still don't think it will lead to La'an to becoming anywhere near like Khan was. It's also great because it's still such a prominent parallel to Spock's journey with his Vulcan and human side - they have to come to terms and accept both parts of themselves!
That's also why I really loved Christine's words to La'an that absolutely channeled what Neera already told La'an back in season 2 - just because she has Augment DNA doesn't mean she'll turn into a villain because that's not who she is! I love one supportive crew!!!
We are all responsible for decisions and for 3 seasons now, La'an has shown she's a good person! I don't think it would serve her character or be good writing at this point if they make her end up becoming like Khan just for the sake of doubling-down on the "Augments are evil" premise!
This storyline also reminded me again of Spock's horrible childhood story from last season when he tried to cut the "human side" out of himself and I feel like La'an is at a similar threshold this season - that her of her "activated" Augment side could push her to do something drastic and that's why her finding self-acceptance is so important, otherwise she may end up doing something she'll regret or hurt herself. Once more she is on a parallel journey as Spock in finding self-acceptance, so he really should be the one to help her through it all because he's the only one who can really understand what she's going through with having these two sides/wolves inside (is that maybe the reason for the new mind meld? we'll see.)
La'an and Spock sitting together like a true couple (they're holding hands under the table, can't convince me otherwise)
So that's it for the season opening episode. If I find more interesting stuff, I'll add it to this post.
Lastly, have some more nice pictures because you can never have enough nice pictures.
YAY your Spocklaan meta is back! I love reading these deep dives you do on their relationship.
Such a good point about them making progress from Ring of Fire. Clearly, everyone knows they're together. Even M'Benga is teasing Spock about it.
Also true about the hand holding. If he was making out with Kirk or whatever when they shook hands, then he and La'an are banging right there in the transporter room in front of Scotty. Can't have it count for one and not the other.
Talking about both of their more than human strength and sex life really reminds me of Worf and Jadzia's sex life. Lol, they liked it rough.
I love how they're sitting so close that their arms are touching at the end. As you said, they've been together for months at this point and it seems to me this is a common occurrence for them to spend off time together. Even in group settings, they stay close together.
I'm cracking up at the thought of Spock waiting around in the transporter room. Like he's staring very intently at the transporter pad and Scotty makes one (1) attempt at small talk and Spock shuts it down in that blunt Vulcan way. So now Scotty's just awkwardly hanging around in the background like 'I hope La'an gets back soon. He's really weirding me out.'
They seems so comfortable and happy. But Khan somehow finds a way to ruin everything in all timelines and universes lol.
Thanks.
The hand holding discourse is just always so annoying when people constantly claim it means something and is romantic/sexual in nature with Kirk and at the same time dismiss it when it's with La'an or other characters. There's clearly shipper bias here. Either it always means something with every character because of Spock being a touch telepath or never does unless clearly stated it supposed to be something more, can’t have it both ways.
I would love to see more casual private/domestic interactions of them, just showing what they're doing together besides meditating. Also maybe it's petty but I will be annoyed if we don't get a cuddling in bed scene. We got the scene of Spock with T'Pring and Christine in bed, so I need more than just that one kiss before the end.
Yes, that would be funny. Maybe Spock would use the entire to fix his hair again ignoring Scotty or Scotty would talk about ghost thingys on the sensors again. Maybe it'll be a deleted scene on the dvd.
I would love to see cuddling. But I don't count the Christine bed scene since they were under Trelane's influence and she would never have done that at that time of her own free will. I hate that episode so much.
I want to see Spock and La'an being domestic because she WANTS to be there with him.
I get what you mean, but that makes it kind of even worse for me.
Because Spock and Christine got a scene like that, even when they're not together and under awful circumstances, but La'an and Spock, who are together for real at this point, can't get anything close to that. And there was also the La'an and Kirk montage in the musical episode so in a way, it feels like every pairing gets these moments except La'an and Spock.
Prayer circle for more domestic Spocklaan moments!
I too, am hoping for more domestic stuff when it comes to them. I want to see more alone time with them.
Also, I'll bring candles for the prayer circle. What else do we need? Drinks? I'll make a list. Lol
We're getting another mindmeld 👀
oh okay so are we saying that mind melds have like romantic connotations or something
No, that wouldn't be my take away from this. However, I do like when these two mindmeld because it is messy and emotional on both sides.
