He didn’t have the privilege to fall apart. He needed to get himself together.

He had always cared for Spock. Always. If it came down to it, he had no problem dying for the man. He was the finest first officer in the fleet. He could be infuriating and frustrating and although Jim didn’t always understand him, he was his best friend. He felt closer to him than anyone else in the universe.

But Jim had never… he swallowed… he had never allowed his thoughts to… wander towards…

And even if he had, he had cut them off immediately.

But seeing their counterparts together…

He lifted his hands to his lips and bit his knuckles attempting to get a hold of himself. His chest ached at the memory.
