(anne of green gables) dancing in this world alone, chapter 11
dancing in this world alone - rilla/carl - pg-13
It's true that Carl is not a very good dancer. The band whirls through different songs ā a one-step to "Oh What a Time for the Girlies", a foxtrot to "You're Some Pretty Doll." Carl manages to stay on his feet, grinning sheepishly every time he misses a step, but Rilla's danced with worse ā she hopes Nellie Clow, newly engaged, has better luck with Mark Warren than Rilla did ā and it's somehow not so irritating when it's Carl, perhaps because she knows him so well and it's not his fault that his balance has been affected so. Dancing with him is still fun, especially as he makes her laugh, murmuring commentary in her ear about how so-and-so reminds him of a centipede with too many legs and some of the girls' dresses are the same colors as particularly shiny beetles. "Hmm," Rilla says, leaning back to look at him. "If I were a bug, what kind of bug would I be?" She immediately regrets asking the question, because she's sure he's going to bring up her old Spider nickname, and then ā "Rosy maple moth," Carl says, without missing a beat. Rilla is about to swat him for having such an answer prepared, but then he goes on.

Anne and Gilbert circa Anne of the island era-ish, vibes over historical/book accuracy
(anne of green gables) dancing in this world alone, chapter 8
dancing in this world alone - rilla/carl - pg-13
"Andā¦" Ken's dark eyes search hers, in that way that used to make Rilla's heart feel as though it were skipping beats. Funny that she almost can't recall the sensation, it's been so long since she's felt it. "He's good to you?"
Rilla can't help but smile, the faintest laugh escaping. She can see Carl offering to fight Ken for her, trading notes for Redmond, his sharp blue gaze on her as he handed her hat back on the beach ā agreeing to accompany her everywhere to begin with, really. It's not what Ken means, of course, but ā "Yes. Of course."
"Thenā¦I wish you every happiness.

"Life's too short to hold grudges anyway"
-L.M Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
an l.m. montgomery + j.m. barrie short inspired fic wherein john meredith ā who clearly deeply loved and now deeply idealises his first wife, despite also loving rosemary west ā continually for years takes gilbert aside, with his preoccupation with his plans for his own burial. plans which are perpetually being changed. first rev. john takes gilbert to the spot he most wishes be buried, and then eventually in the couple weeks or so, to the place where he would like next best to be buried. usually john says he is to be buried exactly in between his two wives; but sometimes he is to be so many inches nearer to the first; sometimes, so many inches nearer to the second. gilbert is greatly amused by his foibles, but he indulgently makes very solemn faces on these occasions, which obviously weigh quite heavily on his good pal. in the privacy of his own home, however, he keeps anne up to date on these ever rotating arrangements, and the two share plenty a guilty āoh, poor john!ā laughs over it.

Iām not married to any of the Blythe/Meredith/Ford children pairing honestly- letās rearrange them like deck chairs
LITERALLY PLEASE YES ā although tbh i just want them to expand outside of the same three intermingling families anyway. in my perfect world, there mightāve been (1) blyfordith marriage. 1! (and it would be walter x una lmao). iām basically in the habit of accusing maud of over-economising effort in the next-genās romances by pairing off kids w/other kids we already knew, despite also acknowledging that 90% of her whole jam is ships that begin with childhood friends/frenemies. š but this??? like hello, itās doing too much. itās basically darks x penhallowās all over again ā a notion maud was totally mocking in a tangled web
Rilla on the beach won the poll so Iāll be working on that, but in the meantime, as a treat, hereās a slightly more rendered version of rilla writing letters to Walter
"If I had my way I“d shut everything out of your life but happiness and pleasure."
