Before I left the gates of Whiterun, a curious creature approached me. It held the scent of the forest in its dense fur, and nothing but an air of friendliness. Without thinking, I reached out to touch the creature, who nuzzled my hand in return. With a smile I pet its head and turned to leave, the furry animal following right behind, and decided to name my new friend Nari, meaning cheerful in my native tongue.
After leaving the walls of Whiterun, I began my journey to the location Farengar explained to me; Bleak Falls, an ancient barrow in the mountains overlooking Riverwood. I decided it would not be best to go alone, even with Nari, so I headed into town in hopes someone would accompany me.
As I walked into the halls of Dragonsreach, I was approached by a Dunmer; a sight I did not expect to see in the frozen climates of Skyrim. I explained to her about the dragon attack, seeing as she didn't seem like the type of person who could help me in my own personal journey, and she immediately sent me to the Jarl. He, Jarl Balgruuf as I soon came to find out, was happy to hear at least a few people made it out on time when the dragon attacked. After thanking me for explaining the events, he introduced me to his court wizard, Farengar; a dark man with many mysteries, but friendly nonetheless. This wizard told me about a place I may, or may not, find something that would aid him in figuring out why the dragons came back, and asked if I could fetch it for him. Without another thought I agreed, this dragon has sparked my curiosity and I feel I need to figure out why. Before I left, he spoke up "Have you heard of the College of Winterhold? You seem like a mage to me, if you ever want to hone in on your magicka, that is the place to go." he smiled and before I could reply, he disappeared into another room.
The journey to Whiterun took less than half a day, and as I entered the gates I was struck with beauty. The lands were so different from those in my homeland, and yet it was still so striking. The city was bustling and filled with humans of all shapes and sizes; children ran around and played with four legged creatures covered in fur and people argued over the price of armor and weapons, much unlike the bound swords the guards in my fathers palace wore. The sunlight was warm and calming as I walked through the streets, asking a friendly young female where I would find their king, who smiled sadly and corrected me with "I do believe you mean our Jarl, who takes care of this land. He is in Dragonsreach, the castle looking over us. Just follow the stairs and it will lead you there." I bowed politely, and thanked her before heading to Dragonsreach to talk to this so called 'Jarl'.
