- Trey remembers everyone getting cable before he did because he was in the mountains, and his dad had to get satellite. Matt would go to his friend's house and watch Gillians Island, Hogan's Heroes, and I Love Lucy on reruns before cable after school. His parents were not big TV people. MTV to him was a window to NYC or the world.
- Trey came home from work one night and saw Betty and the nanny watching I Love Lucy, and Betty loves it.
- Trey called his dad and asked him what the first thing they saw on cable was: Conan the Barbarian.
- Matt took film for easy credits.
- Spirit of Christmas 1992: the Fall semester screening happened the weekend before Christmas. Trey wanted to slip in a Christmas special and said they synced the mouths in a backwards way: read magazines about mouth shapes and cut them out of books.
- Doug thought it was a bad idea to kill Kenny every week, until he saw how disappointed M&T looked😅
- Publications fought to have SP on their covers during the first year.
- The Gauntlet short: Matt stuck a copy of it in the mail to send to the Scientology office to approve of.
- Trey says the best shows are the ones by the seat of their pants because of the momentum.
- Election Night '16: Matt was like "Give up!", and Doug was at Daily Show saying everyone was crying there when he was on the phone with Anne.
- The question of who is going to be offended has changed over the years. M&T see stories from different POVs in the writing. They try to convey different points of view in an issue. Matt thinks they've gotten better at making SP less pedantic and more about the emotions behind all these issues.
- How longer do they see themselves doing SP: Trey says that once they open Casa Bonita, they will see.
- Matt says going back to SP is like strapping on that guitar and putting on those little shoes. He also sleeps like a baby because he laughs so hard in the writer's room. (Although he hates the production cycle) Coming back to a new season feels like home to him😁
- They love doing more tactile things than special effects.
- BoM film: Matt says they're talking about doing something different like go to Africa and film it. They wanna do a version of it where it's like the seniors and uses the Evergreen Players as an example, like a meta spin. They have so many friends in the original cast😊
- Trey hand picks SP episodes for Betty that are family-friendly for her to watch.
- Matt's kids think he's the lamest guy in the world....aww!😂😅
- Their favorite basic cable TV show of all time:
Matt - Beavis & Butthead is up there for him and still makes him laugh.
Trey - grew up watching those Christian broadcast shows like the 700 Club, Tammy Faye, and CBB.
