5 Trashy Life Hacks That Actually Work
1.) Skip Any Line With Hand Sanitizer
If youâre looking to easily skip a line you can do so with hand sanitizer. The process is simple, just go up the line and offer each and every person hand sanitizer. When you get to the front of the line, just stay there. It also helps you blend in to start talking with someone at the front, but this is not necessary.
The idea behind this is pretty basic. Because you gave/ offered people something (the hand sanitizer) they will be less likely to say something about you cutting in line. They may not be happy about you cutting in line, but because you showed them some kind of generosity they will not feel strongly enough to intervene.
This is not something that I do often. But itâs worked 3 out of the 3 times that I've used it. I also believe it is much more likely to work with people youâre already aquinted with than strangers.
2.) Use a Laundry Basket for Gift Baskets
Gift baskets are a great way to shownuour appreciation for someone. But, when it comes to a gift basket whatâs inside the basket is really what matters. Instead of spending so much on a wicker basket use a laundry basket. A laundry basket is several times cheaper. Theyâre usually bigger than the average wicker basket and can hold more things. Finally, most people probably could use an extra laundry basket anyways, so itâs useful.
3.) You Donât Need Expensive Experiences To Entertain a Toddler
Toddlers are little and ignorant. Itâs not their fault but they are. But because of that they can have a lot of fun with the most basic of things. One common example of this that I've seen online is taking a toddler to an arcade but not putting a quarter in the machines. They wonât really notice that the game isnât on, but will still have fun with all the lights and sounds, as well as interacting with other kids. I havenât personally tried this, so I cannot verify it. But I have tried something else that just might work better.
Botanical gardens are a magical place, but they can be expensive and unless you live in a big city you may not find one for hours. If you do not have access to a botanical garden, a pretty decent substitute is the outdoor section at a home improvement store. These have all kinds of interesting plants. Everything from cacti to bamboo to hundreds of varieties of flowers. I recently took my niece to one and she absolutely loved it. She was pointing at all the flowers and different plants. We even got to see a bee pollinating. Just be sure not to get in the way of people who are actually there to do business.
She also loved the light bulb aisles. Theyâre like a little light show.
4.) Cut Up Old Towels Into Washcloths
Sometimes old towels develop holes and become unusable as towels over time. But there are still patches of the towel that are perfectly good. Cut up the towel and turn these patches into washcloths. Hemming the edges can make them last longer, but honestly, they last for a pretty decent amount of time without hemming. Sometimes for years. It may be trashy, but itâs a big improvement from letting perfectly good material go to waste.
5.) Watch Free Movies on YouTube
YouTube is a great source of free movies if you know where to look. Obviously, they have free movies with ads as part of YouTube movies. But thereâs also a ton of user-uploaded movies to watch. Just search âfull moviesâ and sort by new.
First, there are a lot of small indie studios that upload their films on YouTube. This is more common with short films than feature films (you can also find truckloads of great short films on Vimeo). But there are some feature films as well. Many of these are films from India and Africa, most aren't in English but there are still fun ones to find. Thereâs also a fair amount of Hallmark-like movies. Unfortunately in todayâs age, thereâs a lot of AI slop ones out there but there are still real ones.
Sometimes you get lucky and will find an actual studio film uploaded. Most likely from someone who technically doesnât have the permission to upload it. A few months ago I found the new Superman movie in full on YouTube. You just have to keep looking.
