Hejsvej

An example of motion tracking via a video feed and the processing environment. I will look into the possibilities of maybe using this library instead of the Kinect. There’s also the possibility of tracking specific colors, although this would require me to force the participants to wear one of the tracked colors which in turn would be a bit dull...
Working on some improvements on the audio-reading code at the moment. Haven't been able to get my hands on a kinect yet so I'm looking into the possibilities of motion tracking via webcam. Apparently there are some ways to do this directly in processing. Also; I found this Bird Strobe Light to keep those birds out of your safe-space: https://www.bird-x.com/bird-strobe-light-products-40.php?page_id=136
Some classmates and me playing around with what I’ve done so far. There's two microphones that controls two circles, each microphone is assigned one of the two circles. The volume is visualised by the circles size and the frequency is visualised by the color of the circle

Inspiration: When a person in front of the wall changes position the silhouette remains for a little while, much like how I would like the “footprint” from the users voices to work

Project description (the idea so far)
My idea is to build a interactive installation where you can change the visuals of a wall by using your voice. As an example: lets say that the visuals of the wall is a projected picture of a landscape (the visuals to be used is not determined at this point), by standing in front of the wall and making sounds with your voice that specific position on the wall would change its appearance. The colors of that area could for example change according to the frequency of your voice and the spread of the coloring could be adjusted according to the volume of your voice. A lower volume would mean a smaller spread and a higher would give you a bigger spread.
Depending on how long you would be able to hold a tone or sound the visual change would stay accordingly. For example; holding a tone for a longer time would make your visual change stay for a longer duration after you’re done, and thereby you would leave a “footprint” (pretty nifty eh?) in the visuals. Eventually though the visuals would return to its default mode (or maybe not, we’ll see).
Also; by getting closer to- and shout with other people in front of the wall there would be some major change of the visual that would not be achievable by yourself. By this I hope that people would be inspired to explore the possibilities of co-operation. Although I was also thinking about the reverse; making the work anti-social by having some messed-up thing happen when you try working with others.
More, like specs, inspiration and the process so far, will follow shortly.
Have a great day!
Hello you!
The purpose of this tumblr is too act as a diary for a project that I am currently working on. The project is the finishing part of the course Experimental media production at Malmö University and is due to be presented and exhibited in early January. A description will follow shortly!
