A Reminder And An Announcement
Just 10 days to go!! Don’t forget to sign up at the Doodle Poll if you’re intending to come this year: http://doodle.com/poll/dipzzbnh6g838w45
There will be the usual Sherlock Holmes Picnic Food Competition, which we’ve had some awesome entries for in past years (see above). I hope you’re all coming up with ways to beat them!
And an announcement: This year’s SHPicnic is going to be the last one. We’ve had a lot of fun doing them every year, but all good things must come to an end, and it feels as if the right time for that is now. Huge thanks to everyone who’s come along over the years. We’ve really appreciated it.
This year's Sherlock Holmes Picnic will feature the usual lunch with huge amounts of cake, an Abominable Bride-themed wide game and finish with dinner and drinks at the Wetherspoons by Baker Street tube station. To help us plan everything, please show which you're intending to join in with.
Time to sign up for this year’s SHPicnic! If you're not sure if you're coming or not yet, bear in mind that you'll almost certainly get a fake moustache if you do.
Sherlock Holmes Picnic VI Date Announcement!
This year’s SHPicnic will be on the 16th July. Meet at 12.00 at the bandstand for food, fun, fandom frolics and other things beginning with F!
Uh, not that, get your mind out of the gutter.
Further information to follow. Follow us here or on Twitter (@SHPicnic) for updates.
Here are the gorgeous chocolates that I made for yesterday’s Sherlock Holmes picnic in Regent’s park. I had a great time with all the fabulous people there, and only got slightly sunburned.
The chocolates, which got second place in the cooking competition (the winner was brain shaped cupcakes which I didn’t get to see, blast it, anybody get a photo?) were fun to make and not even terrible complicated. From the top, going clockwise, they were;
Sherlock Holmes’ Raspberry and Sea-Salt Parfait (peculiar, salty, but oddly charming)
Mycroft Holmes’ Whiskey and Ginger Truffle (smooth, rich, and sophisticated, also ginger)
Mrs Hudson’s Rum and Raisin Truffle (a little bit of what you fancy does you good)
Molly Hooper’s Lime and Vanilla Cream (almost too sweet, but for that little dash of acid)
Lestrade’s Double Shot Coffee Cream (because it might be about to be one of those days)
and finally
John Watson’s Tea-Scented Custard Cup (the refreshment of choice for tiny, cardigan-wearing bad-asses everywhere).
A fair few people asked me for the recipes, so here we go;
The truffles and the rest.
Happy cooking :)
Looks like you’ll need your suntan lotion!
A Walk on the South Downs Sunday, 19th July @ 10am Brighton Railway Station, Brighton
July’s meeting will take the form of a field trip to East Dean to visit Holmes’s Retirement Cottage (the very one!). RSVP for this trip is essential, so please email [email protected] to get on the list. Details of the itinerary and meeting points will be sent next week to registered attendees.
Piggy-backing upon our reading of “The Lion’s Mane” and “His Last Bow,” we will spend the day stomping around the Sussex Downs, picnicking, and admiring the sea. We are hoping for good weather but can’t promise the sky will cooperate, so we recommend sturdy shoes, a rain jacket or umbrella, and a sense of adventure.
The journey may require some moderate physical activity, so if you would like to join us but don’t feel up to a long, hilly walk, we will have several points along the trip where you can join or depart, according to your whims. For instance, there will be a picnic opportunity around noon and a stop for tea around 3pm. If you have any questions, please email us and we’ll be able to give you more specifics!
Help Needed!
If you’re coming to the SHPicnic this year and could bring along any of the following, we’d be endlessly grateful. Please let us know if you can so that we can account for it.
We need several sets of handcuffs and umbrellas.
And one each of: deerstalker, big Sherlock-style coat, blue Sherlock-style scarf.
And now you’re wondering what kind of terrible Sherlockians don’t have a deerstalker between two of them. Please don’t throw us out of fandom, at least not until after the Picnic, yeah?
The Fifth Annual Sherlock Holmes Picnic is almost upon us, and this year we will be celebrating the Sherlympics. Fangirl will be pitted against fangirl as we endeavour to find the Ultimate Champion Of Sherlockian Athletics. The Games are on!
We will also be running the usual Sherlockian Food Competition, so get your chef’s hats on!
We will be meeting at the bandstand at Regent’s Park at 12, running games from roughly 2pm until 5pm, and then retiring to the Metropolitan pub for drinks, laughter and more food. Hell yeah.
If you’re coming along, please sign up at our Doodle poll: http://doodle.com/w5h5h9dsg82q7578
2015 SHPicnic Announcement
The Fifth Annual SHPicnic will take palace on 18th July 2015, at 12pm in Regents Park. Please feel free to join us! More info will be posted on this Tumblr and on our Twitter account closer to the date.
It's getting so close! And the BBC have decided that the rain is going to hold off for the actual time we'll be outside!!
Just a reminder that we'll be meeting at the bandstand in Regents Park, which is here. The best tube station for it is Baker Street.
If you've been undecided about coming, or thought you could and now can't, could you please make sure the Doodle poll accurately reflects your plans? Thanks!
We'll see you on Saturday!
Sherlock Holmes Food Competition
Been coming up with some terrible ideas for Sherlock Holmes-related picnic food.
Turkey twizzlers with a blue marble forced into them
Marzipan crafted into the shape of Holmes's nose
Holmes's 'special' brownies, with added cocaine
One solid mass of oysters, taking over the world
Chinese takeaway, but I knock anyone who reaches for any unconscious
This is proof that I should never cook. Hope you've all come up with better plans for the food competition this year!
Two Weeks To Go!!
That must mean it's time to start panicking about the weather. Are we going to be packing our Mycroft!umbrellas or our Lestrade!sunglasses?
49 days to go! He's ready, are you?
(*Disclaimer* Benedict Cumberbatch will not be at the SHPicnic. Well, not in person, I'm sure he'll be there in our hearts.)
Less than two months to go until this year's SHPicnic! Holmes and Watson are ready, are you?
SHPicnic 2014
Hello Picnic fans!
The 2014 SHPicnic is taking place at 12 noon on 19 July 2014 at the Bandstand in Regents Park (that's here). There will be fun, sun (we hope) and the traditional Sherlock themed Picnic food competition.
From about 2-5pm we'll be running a Sherlock themed game. Be one of the Baker Street Irregulars and help Sherlock find out all the pressure points.
Then 5pm till people get fed up or chucked out whichever comes first, we'll be at The Metropolitan pub on Baker Street for food, drinks and probably a few games which may or may not involve Rizlas.
So all you need to do now is go sign up here and start planning your Sherlock themed snack.
Although if you've got a moment before hurrying off to reblog that would be appreciated too :)
If you have any questions you can contact us on here, at our LJÂ [email protected] or on our Twitter @shpicnic or #shpicnic.
See you in July!
Trills and Amy
Yesterday was six months until the next SHPicnic! Seems a long time, but I bet it will go far too quickly.
