well, i did promise you a shop update, so here it is! i still have a couple of goat skulls to post, but first i have to find boxes they'll fit in properly. in the meantime there's some great little ones plus a BIG ol' pelt that i really wish y'all could touch. I promise it's a good one.
well my little toe dip back into vending didn't go super well, but i have applied for a market in the fall and have my eyes on a couple more...unfortunately everything in summer is basically booked up which is a bummer but it also means i will have plenty of time to get skulls cleaned and ready while it's warm.
if you were waiting to see what pelts i have available though, i will be updating the shop again soon! and hopefully figure out the shipping situation that has been plaugeing me :')
i haven't put up the new stuff yet, but i just wanted to let everyone know that the store is back open AND i think i figured the shipping problem out (basically: i tried to save myself some headache and let the shop platform figure out shipping rates on its own but that uh. did not go well)! hopefully it will not charge you exorbitant amounts of money for shipping and require me to refund you for the difference. not that it was a problem on my end, but i know that number was scary and i am just some guy on the internet so why trust me to do what i say i will do. y'know.
anyway, i will be adding a couple more pelts and some SKULLS (ooh) to the shop this week, but in the meantime, the shop is back open with everything i already had available if you happen to want to peruse~

Is there anything people should know about when buying a pelt for the first time? Quality indicators, etc?
generally you are looking for soft, supple, white leather with good stretch and flexibility (scrunch it in your hand - does it feel stiff? papery? crinkly? smell weird?), nice thick clean fur with no stains, leather that is thin enough to be soft but thick enough that none of the hair is coming out the back (known as 'blue leather'), and a lack of holes (or well repaired ones at least). i also always ask what it was tanned with - alum is NOT a tan and the pelt will rot if it gets wet. egg, brain, and leaf tans are only true tans if they're smoked, and they generally don't come out super soft, but they will be waterproof at least.
older tans will sometimes turn and orangey colour and while not always a bad sign, it can mean that the pelt may be on its last phase of life and it could be too delicate to hang up or use for crafting. unfortunatly pelts do have a lifetime and they'll just start falling apart eventually unless kept in like. cold storage conditions which most of us do not have access to lol
workin' on bones lately 👀 i think i'm going to try to dip my toes back into vending in may, so i will be hanging on to these and not putting them in the shop (sorry!) if you're local to the seattle area though, keep an eye out for when i say whether or not i'm gonna make my face known to the public again lol
turned out some bins yesterday that had been eaten by brambles and found this rabbit jaw with tooth abscesses...i wish i could remember what rabbit this was. i had a big doe last year that died of a tooth abscess but i don't think this is her because hers was up top? but these bins have been inaccessible for so long and my queue was not well kept up with x:

Hey, I’m sorry if this is random, but I’ve wanted to buy a pelt from you for a long time once I can afford it though I don’t know rabbit types terribly well. If I just wanted a fur to have as pleasant object to pet and appreciate (flaws are fine! I’m not using it for more than enjoying The Soft), is there a specific sort you’d recommend in your wares? Thank you for reading regardless!
if you just one want to pet, i DEFINITELY recommend either a rex, or that solid white hotot pelt on my shop right now. rex have a really lovely velveteen feel to their fur, and that white pelt is just really dense and nice to run your hands through. if you wanted my recommendation of my current available rex that i like, it's def the castor. he was older so his fur is thicker than the other ones on the shop right now :)

quick question for you! will you ever do preclaims on your culls ever again? I have a couple of your works proudly displayed up on my walls and shelves, and would love to buy another skull + pelt set from the same rabbit again.
maybe! doing it that way was kinda hard to keep up with and put a lot of pressure on me to finish quickly as they were technically commissions, and it got to be a lot. versus the way i've been doing it, where i just pull a bag out of my freezer and tan whatever was in there and then sell it.
but i know a lot of people liked it because yeah they could have pieces of the same animal, so maybe if i have a litter i think would be fun to do that way i may do a few preclaims again.
