Quiet in his seat, Jacob continued to watch the scene between the two in front of him unfold as he nursed his drink. Heâd had a busy day and wanted nothing more than to just enjoy a tankard of ale and his own company but it would seem that the two arguing in front of him had another idea in mind. Looking down at what was left in his tankard, he chucked his neck back chugging what was left, leaving a pleasant burning of alcohol in his throat. Taking a stand as he noticed them getting more aggressive with each other, he let out a sigh and began to walk over. âEnough.â He stated, his voice calm yet with a sharpness to it. Jacob looked at them both straight in the eye as he put an arm between them. âIf youâre going to behave like children, then I will be your daddy. Now, you go that way and you come sit with me.â The male instructed with a warning look that told them it would be safer not to argue with him.Â
âExcuse me?â Kennedy whirled around to face him, her attention diverted from the original annoyance she had been arguing with as her eyes flashed in anger at the new stranger. âIf I wanted your input I would have asked for it, this is no business of yours so stay out of it. Unless of course you would rather my knife be held to your gut instead of his?â A single brow arched in challenge as her gaze flicked down to her wrist where she was gripping her blade.Â
Casey was on his second rum of the night when he heard a commotion. He glanced over to see a woman trying to subtly separate herself from some men that Casey wasnât familiar with. He sighed before finishing off his rum and standing. Usually, he wouldnât get involved, but the leers he could see from the men didnât bode well.
Casey crossed the room in several long strides and put his hand behind the womanâs back. He made sure he wasnât touching her, but the men at the table wouldnât know better. âThere you are, darling,â Casey said, leaning in as though to kiss the womanâs cheek. âGo with it,â he whispered before pulling away. âWho are you friends, love?â
Normally Kennedy wouldnât appreciate someone else intervening, much preferring to handle the situation herself instead of risking the chance of having to owe someone or the other feeling they required some sense of gratitude. Though that of course meant that she had some way of defending herself, the red head wasnât a fool enough to notice when she was outmatched however, there was no way she was getting out of this situation without excepting the strangerâs help. Gritting her teeth, Kennedy had to bite back the snarl she had been so tempted to hurl in the direction of the drunken idiots and instead attempted to replace it with a forced smile. âOh, thank goodness dear. I was beginning to think youâd gotten lost.â She glanced up in what she hoped was a loving smile, the relief shining through her eyes in gratitude as she went along with his ploy. âI was just telling these lovely gents that I was waiting for you. I believe they said theyâre new into port and clearly arenât used to the way things work around here. I was just informing them, isnât that right gentlemen? Now if you donât mind, Iâm going to leave with my husband. You have a good day.â

HISTORY
TW: Abandoment, Physical abuse, Violence
Her father was a cruel man, there was no denying it. Unfortunately for him Kennedy wasn't the meek young child she once was. She'd had enough with his violent ways and his sharp tongue. The two became volatile with each other as she began to fight back but it seemed he still had the upper hand being bigger and stronger than her. She had mentioned her situation to her friend Theo, a woman who she admired and looked up to due to being her own woman and not letting men control and rule her world, who nonchalantly recommend for Kennedy to take a leaf out of her book and just remove the man. Kennedy had never considered it before but suddenly it all made sense. It was an easy solution, once she wouldn't struggle with. And so she murdered her father making it look like an accident.
It was so simple, without him in the way she could easily step into his shoes continuing the family business and their role within the guild. It wouldn't take too much considering she was left to manage the majority of it to begin with. She'd carry out the orders and responsibilities while he drank away whatever money they managed to bring in, meaning that she had to get crafty when it came to keeping the family afloat and a roof over their head, be that from stealing and swindling whatever they needed or hiding part of the money from their father.
The benefit of being a woman who worked in the guild is that she was often seen as invisible and inconsequential, eyes passed over her dismissing her as not a threat. Kennedy wasn't seen unless she wanted to be seen, unfortunately that usually came with her short fuse and loud mouth that could bite off more than she could chew.
A young woman in the presence of ruthless men, Kennedy has learned to take care of herself, fearing no one. Being brought up in a damaged household, she became self-sufficient from a young age in order to escape her fatherâs violence. She is fierce and she always stands her ground no matter the circumstances. She may not be loyal since she has been known to betray some of her family and loved ones.
"Iâd think twice about releasing me. That is if you had any intention of keeping your handâ Kennedy hissed her threat to the stranger as she attempted to loosen his grip on her whilst trying not to draw attention to them. Her hand drifted to her hip where her small blade was usually hidden, only to find it missing and her heart to lurch. She had only wanted to have a quiet drink, hoping to over hear any information on the new arrivals, though this time it appeared that she had made the mistake of listening in on the wrong people and they hadnât been as drunk and unobservant as she had originally thought.
