Jack Frost and Zak: Winter is Fun

Zak was getting tired of this winter weather. Winter time meant he was out of work and no work meant no money and no money meant he had absolutely nothing to do. He didn’t have enough money to buy new clothes so he was stuck in his summer clothes wandering around outside. “I swear, whoever invented winter is a moron.” he muttered under his breath as he shivered.

Jack was waltzing around, bored. He was kicking up the snow that was flurrying around him. He saw someone walking past, dressed in summer clothes. “Well, that’s not gonna keep you warm, big Fella.” He told the guy, knowing he wasn’t going to hear him. Then he heard him mutter to himself. “Hey now! I take offense to that!” He frowned. He reached down and made a snowball throwing it at him. “That’s what you get for calling me a moron.” He said, watching the guy’s confused and irritated look as he looked around for the origin of the snowball.

Zak was automatically pissed at whoever had thrown the snowball. He brushed the snow of his frostbitten flesh gruffly and shouted. "What's the big idea?" He was really irritable, but with all that's happened to him lately- him being evicted, his parent's disappearence, and everyone thinking he was insane for believing in fairies- who could blame him? He was lost, tired and cold by then, plopping down in the snow with defeat. He had no idea where he was and he could barely move. He was convinced he was going to freeze to death right then and there.

“It talks!” He shouted in surprise, falling back and accidentally launching the creature into the air.

"Aaahhh!" Periwinkle screamed as she was thrown into the air. She landed on a plant, her head feeling dizzy. "I…uh…" She couldn’t find any words to say and continued lying on the leaves.

Zak panicked. He grabbed a pocket knife and positioned it in front of himself defensively. "Stay back! I'm armed!" He threatened, not realizing how ridiculous he was being or that the pocket knife he thought he was holding was actually a pen.

Zak felt a small slap against his back and instinctively reached for it. Whatever it was felt like a body, and when he held it in his hand and saw it, he fell back and screamed. “Not again!”

Zak could tell he’d upset the girl by not remembering her, but he really wanted to make her feel better anyway. “Hey, it’s alright. I’m sure we have met….I think. It’s not you, it’s me, I just have the worst memory on the planet.” He babbled, making exagerrated hand motions as he talked. “Look….now that I look closer…” he began, looking closely into her eyes. “You do look very……familiar.”

Crysta looked up, hopeful. “I just thought,” not meaning to sound as pathetic as she did. “That after everything with Hexxus you’d never forget Ferngully.” deciding to leave out the bit about their little fling since it wasn’t important enough for him to remember on his own.

"Wait....what did you say?" He asked, disbelief radiating in his voice. Fern Gully? All that he'd been through.....he'd been convinced by his psychologist that it had just been a big hallucination and dream from working so much. But now this girl, he remembered her from his fantasies in Fern Gully. "C-Crysta?...." he stuttered. No, it couldn't be her, she was just a part of his big dream.......wasn't she?

He stared at her dumbfoundedly. Was he supposed to remember her? Because her face wasn’t ringing any bells. “Sorry but, uh, I don’t remember you. Have we even met before?” He cocked his head in confusion and kept taking small steps backward.

Crysta tried her best to hide her quivering lip, but the disappointment on her face was all too apparent. She crossed her arms over her chest and moved a bit closer to the window, turning her eyes away from the blonde to look at the fire on the opposite side of the room. She couldn’t look at him without thinking of the time they’d spent together but even the fire reminded her of him. How could he not remember? “Yes, well, I was different then.” she said finally once she was sure she wasn’t going to cry.

Zak trecked through the woods as winter weather began to consume them. Snow was falling on the ground as the walked and wind blew in his face. He shivered, but kept going as he tried to keep walking back to the log cabin he was forced to live in since his eviction.

Periwinkle kept hopping from plant to plant frosting things that she did not see where she was going and felt herself bump into someone. “Oh!” She exclaimed.

Zak was unsure how to answer all these questions. As far as he knew, this girl was a stranger, but she seemed to know who he was. “I’ve been, uh, living here ever since I got evicted. Do I even know you?” He asked curiously. Why did this strangely dressed woman seem so interested in him?

"What’s evicte-" but she stopped mid question as she realized what he’d asked next. He didn’t remember her, she could tell by the way he was looking at her strangely. She bit her lip "Don’t you remember me?" she asked the ground.
