Just Naomi saying they’ll take Kenji’s advice made him beam– even if he wasn’t sure they actually meant it. Surprisingly to him, not many people took his advice. Not that they were bad, but because his ideas weren’t as mature as they’d like it to be. So hearing, or more specifically believing, they’ll accept it made him feel warm and fuzzy.

“Waaah~! No-no uh, thank you actually hehe…”

He clasped his hands and quickly bowed before Naomi. Hopefully, Naomi wasn’t playing a game with him.

“I’d like to also say that I’m glad! Glad that you accepted my uh, sudden invitation! I… I really hope I don’t annoy you or anything if I do get loud. It happens I guess… a-and sorry in advance!”

He is trying.

“Moving on from that awkward… wreck uh, you say you enjoy reading? That’s nice! I do too! Do you have any favorites or recommendations?”

Taking the hand off their mouth, Naomi raised a brow at Kenji’s response. The last thing they were expecting to hear was a thank you-- after all, he was the one to give Naomi advice. Regardless, they just ignore it and nodded their head, their voice slightly louder than before.

“...Uh...no problem...? It’s very good advice...”

“...I’m glad as well...Well, as glad as I can be, I guess. You...probably won’t annoy me much...don’t worry about it...okay? Also...uh...don’t get too excited...alright? I mean...I’m not the best person to have...as a friend...I’m pretty boring...”

“...I hope you don’t mind...-- Oh, I...I like picture books a lot...I guess you could call them a guilty pleasure...other than that, I enjoy Fahrenheit 451...Catcher in the Rye...and a few other classics...I guess...What do you like?”

If only Kenji could read the air, he would have stopped talking about the friend topic. He could have spared Naomi the uncomfortable feeling they felt. Instead he only assumed they were closing their eyes in bliss thought. Shaking their head in little hope of ever meeting their friend again, which pulled Kenji to speaking more about it.

“Ahaha, that’s cute. I’m sure that if you wish hard enough you’ll get to see him again. Kind of childish I know, but it helps me keep trudging forward!”

He was going to say more, but quickly closed his mouth. It was more then likely he was now getting on the other’s nerves. Boy did he love to talk a lot!

“You’re welcome and thank you. I’d be happy to call you a friend since you seem kind. Calm and peaceful I guess you could say… Aha…”

That sure is a solid reason right there. However Kenji chose to avoid mentioning another reason. How would Naomi feel if he said they reminded him of a close past friend? It would be terrible if they felt uneasy for being compared…

Gritting their teeth, they did their best to stay calm and quiet. There are just some people who can’t read a situation...and it was obvious that Kenji was one of these people. Regardless, Naomi kept silent and tried to look not as annoyed as they felt. If anything, he did mean well...and though they didn’t really believe in such silly things, maybe his advice would work if they really did try-- not that they were considering it or anything.

“...Thank you...I’ll...take your advice...”

“...Yes I am pretty calm...I don’t like talking much...I prefer reading and listening-- as long as who I’m listening to isn’t loud. I...would gladly call you a friend...I guess...”

At the end of their sentence, they brought a hand to their mouth, hiding it with their sleeve. Why? Who knows. Whatever their hiding behind it, it was probably better left a secret.

Kenji was glad that Naomi didn’t seem to mention anything about staring. It was a little wave of relief! Then his spirits grew a bit more at the slow, but positive response. Humming and nodding back at them.

Though the small tune died as a concern look took over. They didn’t usually make friends? How come? Certainly that would be pretty lonely to not have a buddy to talk the world with…

“Is that… so? Hmm, well if that’s the case then I’ll try super duper hard to be your friend then! Of course, if you are alright with that. Since your feelings matter the most and it would be an effort between us!”

However Kenji was fine if they didn’t want to be. After all, they just met and he honestly can’t tell if the other would even like him.

“Naomi Saiga… mhm, it has a nice ring to it. A-ah sorry… um, I’m Kenji Nakajima hehe~”

Closing their eyes, they found it somewhat difficult to look Kenji in the eyes-- especially after the whole “friends” thing. It was...weird to talk about with someone else. Actually, just about everything was weird to talk to people about. 

“...Yes...I had a friend when I was little...I’m not sure...where he’s gone, though...”

Shaking their head a bit, Naomi sighed. This conversation was taking a bad turn... Not to mention, the usually quiet teen just couldn’t bring themself to snap back at the brunette, nor could he manage to spit out an insult to get him to leave. After all, they started this conversation, it was their job to continue it.

...They had a strange feeling that this wasn’t going to go on for much longer, if that was the case.

“...If you want to be my friend...then I don’t mind at all. I have no reason to deny...Anyway, thank...you...? You have...a nice name too...Kenji...”

In their mind, they couldn’t quite get over just how familiar that name sounded...but there was no time to dwell on it-- plus, if it was the case...wouldn’t he have pointed it out?

Well this was certainly a surprise! Maybe odd and creepy, but it didn’t fail to send a chill of thrill down Kenji’s spine. Waking up in an unknown destination with a bunch of strangers felt like something from a movie. However the charming music and colorful decor set off a more lighter tone. How nice.

Then moment the detective actually got up a fur-rific message came on the intercom. It caused the boy to pause for a moment to register it, feel a ping of worry before softly chuckling in response.

“Cat puns? Ehehe~! How adorable…”

Kenji is 100% concerned.

“Waah… I wonder if… there is a secret somewhere…”

He begun to slowly drift off into his thoughts as he scanned the room. Glancing at everyone and ultimately stopping when he saw one specific green haired teen. They looked oddly… familiar and he couldn’t help to stare. Trying to figure out why he felt that, but when they looked at him he turned away.

Kenji stood still in shame and slight fear. How could he forget that staring was rude? Especially if one gets caught! Hopefully he’ll learn to not-

“Hah? O-oh!”

Honestly he wasn’t expecting them to approach. Now that they’re here it’s time to act calm and not weird.

“Oh my uh, you don’t need to apologize. You weren’t bothering me in the slightest! In fact, I’m glad to meet you. So um, hello-hello friendly stranger! I hope we become friends and fair well hm?”

Not noticing the other was staring at them (or maybe they just didn’t care, it was hard to tell, honestly,) Naomi continued to scan Kenji as he replied, unsure about what to really say next. Each word...made them feel more and more disappointed-- though they didn’t show it on their face.

“...It’s...nice to meet you too...”

As they weren’t used to starting or even having conversation, Naomi stood there quietly, staring up at Kenji...seeing as he was over a foot taller than Naomi. Finally, after a full minute of staring, Naomi opened their mouth and mumbled, speaking in a dry tone.

“I...hope we can be...friends too...I suppose...I don’t usually make friends, though. Anyway...what’s your name? I’m...Naomi Saiga...”

Despite the fact that their eyes were heavy and difficult to open, Naomi was certainly alive. If they were dead, they would be in a much more peaceful environment, one where they were allowed to continue sleeping. But, now wasn’t the time to dwell on that, especially when the room was enough to give them a headache. 

They let out a groan, looking at the others in the room with a blank expression, trying to pinpoint where exactly they were. Being outside of the house and possibly having to be social with other students wasn’t exactly their favourite pass time, after all. After all, what else could be happening? There was no way they were gathered here for any other reason than to talk to each other and have some sort of ice breaker…but, that didn’t make any sense either, as they weren’t new to the school.

Just as they were staring at the doors, wondering if they could be opened, the intercom came to life, making them jump before regaining their composure relatively quickly. Still, their expression seemed blank, even after hearing the unfamiliar voice and their…tasteless cat puns. Why cats? They would’ve preferred if it was birds…though, it was difficult to make bird puns.

“…How annoying…”

Sighing to themself, they decided it would just be best to stand against the back wall and wait for them to be let out of this room. As they got up and made their way, they spotted someone, immediately stopping dead in their tracks. They stared for a couple of minutes before approaching the brown haired boy, still silent with dead eyes.

Opening their mouth, their voice was dry and cold…it was strange, starting a conversation with someone…

“…Hello there…I’m sorry to bother you…I guess…”

They’re good at this.

10 facts about a disgusting child

1. Naomi really dislikes people, but he actually likes animals quite a bit! His favourite animal is a bird, though more specifically he thinks quails and mourning doves are the cutest! He probably won’t admit to thinking they’re cute tho -_-

2. It’s pretty obvious that Naomi really loves books, especially literature, but Naomi’s favourite book of all time is actually a children’s book that like no one likes or knows.

3. Naomi’s writing almost makes them sound like a whole new person. Though this might seem pretty normal, it’s mostly that Naomi will actually seem kind and passionate in his writing, giving compliments along with harsh words...and then when you talk to him normally he just sounds dead inside.

4. No one has ever seen Naomi smile or heard them have a happy tone in their voice..or at least...no one has ever claimed to <:3c who kno (what a cranky kid)

5. They like stuffed toys, especially ones made to look like animals

6. Naomi enjoys writing letters, which is why his critiques are written like open letters. Though, he doesn’t have anyone to actually write letters to outside of his job, but he’ll sometimes write to someone who no one has ever heard of before and write to them like they’ve been best friends for years.

7. I’m seriously running out of shit to say uuuuuh they’re demiromantic and asexual.

8. He prefers being in a cold area than a warm one, since he finds heat unbearable -_- I was going to make a frozen joke but I don’t fucking hate myself enough

9. He acts like he dislikes children’s books and tv shows but he actually really likes them...
