FUCK THE SEA EXPAND THE LAND
who the hell needs more of the sea, anyways…? team aqua’s crummy plan was only for the good of the pokemon, where as ours— team magma’s— was for the good of both pokemon and human kind. we’re much more progressive no matter which way you look at it… an asset to humanity we would have became, if you will. if groudon didn’t mess up on us and ruin our plans, i’m sure we would’ve done a large favor to society. alas, we cannot turn back the hands of time and correct our petty scientific mistakes and errors. we must truck on and accept the fate we brought upon ourselves.
… or, let’s just admit that team magma did nothing wrong, i— team magma admin courtney— am your problematic fav, and team aqua sucks. FUCK THE SEA, EXPAND THE LAND!

reunion | tsubame | attn: zach
He didn’t know why but hearing that laugh again bad him feel slightly better about his situation. He joked around with her all the time before he died and felt an immediate connection with her and her death jokes. She talked about how they were here before she started this whole killing game and how they were all friends… maybe they were friends before all this? Best friends, even.
It was a miracle how he calmed down so quickly. Maybe it was the soothing quality Tsuba had on him or the fact that they got along so well that almost want to make him forget about the horrible things she did to him. Oh well.
"I think I heard something? I think it was some kind of sea elf complaining."
He smiled and put his hand back on her shoulder.
"What is this? You actually have sleeves? No bare shoulders for Tsuba? What a discovery . I can’t believe it."
He said that all sarcastically, by the way.
They certainly weren't stuck on any heavy topics like before, but from the moment he'd mentioned her height, she knew that they'd get a tad heated. Light teasing was all fun and games until someone brought up her height. 'Short' was an adjective she could somewhat deal with -- 'sea elf,' however...
"I.. Why... Oh, y'--!"
She now stood flat on her feet. Sure, she would've preferred a chair to boost herself up (for fairness' sake, of course), but she could make do with a firm stance and a mirrored response.
"Zaaach, not fair! Pick on someone your own size! An' don't act so surprised. I've covered 'em before! I've worn, like, one sweater. Once... probably... 'M sure o' 't. Kinda."
By the end of her spiel, her lips were pursed in his general direction and her face was flushed a light pink from the brief ranting her rebuttal sent her into. All those words squished into about fifteen seconds left her taking a heavy catch-breath immediately afterwards.
Mai Sachiko | Not Yet | ATTN: Tsubame
"”Til death do us part…’”
Those words echoed in Sachiko’s mind. But this isn’t really “death”, isn’t it? They were just data in a machine. Still, they weren’t really “living” either.
"I guess this is our ‘fate’, then? It’s not as bad as I thought it’d be. After all…"
A small chuckle escaped her and she shook her head. Whatever she was originally planning to say was now lost.
"Y’know, that’s a pretty cliche saying. ”Til death do us part.’ And yet, we’re still here, together… It was meant to be a vow, a promise, but in this situation, it’s pretty void. Maybe we should ‘renew our vows'…”
Sachiko smiled, gently squeezing Tsubame’s hands.
“No matter what cold flames may sear my body, I will always be by your side.”
"'M not sure where this all leaves us, but... well, I-I think we... did good. Yeah... 'T's certainly not tha' bad. ..Mm..? 'After all...?' Wha'? C'mon, y' can say 't."
She pressed a tender kiss to the very tip of Sachiko's button nose, urging her with the small act of passion to speak her mind.
"'F tha' doesn't work... 'Where words fail, music speaks.' 'M sure y've heard tha' before?"
If the saying was null, certainly they could make do with a more meaningful phrase. A set of phrases, a ballad, if they so wished. There was one in particular that they both knew far too well.
The tune mingled with her breath. She practically exhaled the hums with such little effort that it could only lead one to believe she'd practiced before. And she had. It'd been the song to comfort her during the lonely months. It'd been the pick-me-up she'd depended on like a crutch. Now, it seemed, it was the vow that affirmed them.
"Doubt tha' th' stars are fire, doubt tha' th' sun moves, doubt truth t' be a liar, but never doubt I love," was her only response.
Mai Sachiko | Not Yet | ATTN: Tsubame
Sachiko grew silent, mindlessly playing with Tsubame’s hair. She broke away from the hug and took the younger girl’s hands, staring at the spots where their fingers intertwined.
"…A lot of things happened since our last transmission."
Her grip tightened. There was a mix anger and sadness in Sachiko’s eyes and she bowed her head as if to hide her face. No, she couldn’t let Tsubame worry about her. They were finally together again, she just wanted to be happy with her. She just had to take all that pain and put it aside for now. Just like she always did. She had to be strong, she had to be confident for the both of them. She shook her head and put on her best smile for Tsubame.
"…But that doesn’t matter right now. All that matters now is that we’re here together, and that we’re safe. That’s all that really matters…"
She took Tsubame’s hands and held them in between her own in a praying position. She closed her eyes and brought their hands close to her face, gently kissing Tsubame’s hands. There was no use in bringing back cold and bitter feelings. It was finally warm now…
Only when Sachiko brought forth her hands did Tsubame sit back on her shins and simply watch. If she had a free hand, she'd have slipped a finger under her beloved's chin and tilted it up. She'd have mumbled quiet queries and semi-confident reassurances. Maybe she'd have caught the look upon Sachiko's face.
But she didn't, and was oblivious to whatever emotion the other had adorned. The firm clasping had jolted her a little, though she simply leaned forward and pressed their foreheads together. A stray shiver ran down her spine, eliciting an unsteady exhale from her.
"We're safe, we're safe..." she echoed under her breath.
She'd certainly inquire later, but found peace in letting the questions hang in thin air. No more worries... not now, definitely. They were safe and sound...
"We are. 'T... 't 's."
The level of trust she placed in Sachiko to speak the truth was, to say the least, impressive. She clung to every word, mouthing them as she heard them and nodding ever so slightly in turn.
"I can't believe 't's really been this long... 'M not goin' anywhere, now. No way. 'M stayin' right 'ere with y'... From now t' th' end o' time."
A weak laugh shook her frame.
"''Til death do us part...' Isn't tha' amusin', princess?"

reunion | tsubame | attn: zach
The whole time she was talking, Zach was massaging his forehead. Maybe that would help all of this information sink in? It could be like shampoo, he needed to work it into his skin for the full affect. That was pure bullshit but he knew it. The movement did, however, help his slowly developing headache so he kept at it.
"So that’s it, huh? We’re dead? I can handle that. The second all the living kids get to where they’re going, we’ll disappear or something?"
He got all the yelling out of his system, finally. Although the apology didn’t make up for everything, it did make him feel better.
"Whatever. They say you never die until they stop saying your name. I’ll live on in my music and you’ll live on in infamy. Well, maybe I’ll be there too, given that I actually caved in and ate someone. Six years of being clean, down the drain, huh."
He still wasn’t remorseful about that, by the way. Just thought that you’d all need an update on that.
"Well you’d better be happy with what you did because there’s no goin’ back." He shrugged and moved to put his hand on her shoulder, "Maybe you can leave a ghost message explaining why this happened and everyone will be less pissed at you back ho-"
Zach’s hand stopped about an inch above her shoulders and moved around a little. Then it slowly lowered until he made contact with her.
"Ya know, I forgot how short you were." He laughed softly as he felt up to her head and drew a straight line to his collar bone, "Holy shit."
"Goodness, I'd hope not. Y' make 't sound like I've got a clue. But I don't have power anymore. Overthrown 'fore I could see this t' th' end. Now tha' this 's not up t' me o' Sachi... I dunno wha' 's gonna happen.
"But why go through all th' trouble t' recover our data only t' abandon us 'ere? Unless th' files are corrupted... o' they can't be transferred t' wherever we're goin'... o'..."
That's not very encouraging, Tsubame.
"Wh-- Infamy?"
He certainly wasn't mendacious, but there were other things she'd like to be known for. 'Questionable heroism' had been just the right phrase, in her mind, not 'notoriety.' The latter, she believed, was a tad excessive. At the very least, something more neutral would've sufficed!
"Yikes. 'M still inclined t' think tha' you're pullin' m' leg. Though, uh, wha'd'ya say? 'No goin' back...' Same for y', then. We jus' gotta... gotta keep movin' on. One day at a time, alright? I'll be 'ere with ya through 'em all, jus' like ol' times. 'F y' still want me around, tha' 's.
"'F y' really hate m' guts, I won't hold 't against y'."
He hadn't up and left during their conversation (yet), so she took that as a sign to keep talking.
"..Hn? A ghost message.. Nah, no need for tha'. Everyone already knows. Live feed an' broadcastin'. I dunno 'f tha' applies 'ere, but 't sure did in th' courtroom."
Right on cue, the girl hopped up on her tippy-toes. As balance wasn't really on her side, she wobbled to the left and the right, trying her hardest not to tip over. Tsubame outstretched her hands and grabbed onto his sleeves in attempt to keep herself upright. For the first time since seeing him again, she offered a small smile, smushed between puffed-up cheeks.
"'You're short,' says th' giant. Really? 'T's not m' fault tha' you're sooo tall!"
Mai Sachiko | Not Yet | ATTN: Tsubame
Even as she fell and had to be helped up by Tsubame, Sachiko still had that goofy smile on her face. As soon as she noticed Tsubame’s worry for her, she began to laugh at herself and her own clumsiness as if to help lighten up the mood.
"Yeah, I’m fine!"
She was awfully enthusiastic, but that was to be expected when you finally see your lover again in person after months of being apart. She took a couple of moments to dust herself off and straighten out her cloak. Very frivolous. And then, without another word, she suddenly pulled Tsubame into a giant bear hug.
"I…I missed you a lot. I was afraid that I would never see you again. B-but you’re here, so it’s okay now—!"
Sachiko swayed slightly as tears of joy began to flow, tightening her grip on Tsubame.
It soon proved true that happiness was contagious. Or, at least, not easily swayed. After that big tumble, Sachiko was still her grinning self! The diver couldn't help but join in, mirroring the broad smile.
Noticing her fretfulness, however, Tsubame moved to help her readjust. One hand stayed where it was on her back, while the other fluffed her lover's hair, running fingers through the silky locks as she worked. She then pulled back with a mien of crystal clear admiration. At least, she tried to, but was soon engulfed in an embrace.
She squeezed back right away, content with staying like that forever. For the first time in a while, she felt safe. She felt entirely safe, miles away from any worldly worries.
"I missed y' more! Hnn.. As.. as are y'. You're 'ere... You're really 'ere!"
Time froze where they were. That she was sure of. With her head nestled in the crook of Sachiko's neck, she was so sure that they'd simply melted into each other. And she would've been absolutely fine with that, because after all this time they were together again.
"Sachi... I.. I couldn't go back t' th' trans...transmission center after everyone else found out 'bout 't. I couldn't, so I... Wha' happened? Are y' alright? Y'... y' were safe, weren't y'? We're safe now, aren't we..? It'll be okay? Mnn.."
reunion | tsubame | attn: zach
"Had to be done MY ASS. What’s the worst that could have happened? We’d be forgotten? You act like that’s new to you guys. Listen, I would have been completely fine going back to America and just playing music to my self. Classical music is already outdated! I knew I was on a thinning road."
He gripped his cane so hard that his knuckles turned as white as they could.
"Let me tell you some cold hard facts. No one cares. At all. The second I stepped off that witness stand, no one cared. I had a pulse so I wasn’t counted as a victim, no one cared what I went through. They all died right away, I suffered for six months. But, guess what: No. One. Cared."
It kinda good to get that off his chest. Tsuba was actually… the first person that he told about that who wasn’t part of his family. Although, he supposed everyone knew the aftermath of what happened since his trial.
"I, for one, would have loved keeping the flesh on my bones and staying alive, even if no one remembered me. If all you said was true and we were just here to test something and got carried away, why couldn’t ya have send me home? I would have loved to have a choice in, ya know, my own life."
He let out yet another forced laugh, this time seething with repressed anger.
"But you guys had more important plans, right? Other people didn’t matter to you. Not the first time that’s happened. Well we’re all on equal ground now. You happy?"
"Yeah, well, out o' jobs, out o' business, out o' life. This whole 'game' we call life... We've practi..practically already lost! Ggg.. 'Ow long do y' think tha' would carry ya? Playin' jus' t' yourself? An' y' act like y' don't even know you've got a gift. A gift, Zach. Y' an' everyone else. There's no way jus' anyone can waltz into Hope's Peak an'... an' half-ass their way through classes."
And that, somehow, managed to fuel her fire. She felt her skin prickle with goosebumps and took a tentative step forward.
"Y' wanted t' go home? Y' wanted a choice? Alright, see, 'ere's th' thing: y' relin...relinquished tha' right before we even got 'ere. Y' agreed t' th' N.W. Project. All o' y'. Y' agreed t' everythin' an' anythin' tha' might come with 't.
"'Course y' didn't expect this. No one did, nor could they. Who could'a?"
Now, she looked up, eyes glazed and hazy. Brows furrowed above the swirls of cyan as she peered onward.
"Apologies. 'S tha' wha' y' wanted t' hear? I'll spare y' one, but only y'. 'M' apologies.' There y' go. Listen, I... I care. 'T might seem late, but I do. Tha' 's why this all happened. 'Cause I care. An' 'f everyone else did, too? 'F we were remembered, surely... surely they'd have cared."
She bit her lip as he let loose a laugh, gnawing until she'd broken skin. When she spoke once more, her syllables were enunciated quite carefully. Softly, yes, but with the utmost concern. They sounded so... sad. It stung to press her lips together between words, but it didn't look like she even cared about that. She was so overwhelmed with all this that that was the least of her worries.
"I.. I don't know. I don't. When y' say 't like tha'... an' when y', o' all people, say all tha'... I don't know."

Any time before this, he would have loved to hear that voice. Before the his trial, before the mastermind trial, he would have loved it. It was like a screw slowly being turned into his head. It wasn’t just the pain in his head knowing that he had to stop himself from slapping her every few seconds, it was also the pain in his heart knowing that his friend was the one who… did all of that.
And here she was. He couldn’t see her coming and walk away. He didn’t have the time to even think of something to say. What even could he say?
"Yeah. Yeah… I know."
His hand wandered up to his bandanna and played with the frayed edges while he wondered what the hell she was expecting. How could he put his feeling into something that she could understand.
"Why… did ya pick me? I mean, up there, right before your goose was cooked. I know you were tryin’ to avoid dying… but you could have picked anyone else!”
It was like a stream had turned into a waterfall. Before, Zach was having problems starting and his voice was quiet.
"Anyone else, Tsuba! Maybe you were relyin’ on everyone to hate me and what I did so much that they would forget all about the evidence and vote for me. Maybe I could get executed, oh boy, a second time!”
Now his voice was quick and his tone angry.
"I know that everyone thinks I’m a monster. But to think that someone that I actually trusted would throw me under the bus and accuse me of all the horrible things that- the things that you did? I-I just-“
He took a couple of deep breaths and let out a forced chuckle.
"That day on the pier meant nothing to you, did it?"
From the very start, she knew that this was going to be tough conversation. She'd expected it, of course, before she'd even found him. But it wasn't like she could put it off forever. Eventually she'd have to talk to him, and now that she was...
It was his tone right off the bat that shook her. Though she stood her ground, feet rooted in place and arms stiffly by her sides, she couldn't keep looking at him. If he could've seen her at that waking moment, he'd know that his words were striking her hard. Of all the people she could've expected this telling off from, his ranting marred her the most. She valued his opinions -- always had, in the extensive years of their companionship -- and to have them be so straightforward and blunt was... well, upsetting. The emotion was deep-set upon her face, unfiltered hurt clearly present. She looked down, focusing on the ground, instead.
Tsubame wanted to butt in, to try to disprove his accusations, to tell him that no, she'd never meant to play off of hate and no, she'd never once thought that he was a monster. Truly, she wanted to. But every time she tried to speak, the words caught in her throat.
Only after all of his huffing did she find her voice, and when she did, it wasn't lively as it usually was around him.
"I... I figured 't'd be like this. Knew y' would have all tha' t' say. But please, now, jus' listen. I needed someone t' take th' fall for m'. Simply t' buy me time until th' next trial, so I could get a better plan in action. 'Thought I could link back t' th' log evidence with a... a musical decoy.
"I had t' do somethin'. 'T wasn't like y' could fight m' words! Y' were, uh... not... with us.. at th' time -- ᶰᶰ˒ ᶜᵒᵘˡᵈ'ᵃ ᵖʰʳᵃᶳᵉᵈ ᵗʰᵃ' ᵇᵉᵗᵗᵉʳ."
She screwed her eyes shut, shaking even more so than before. Cold and unsettled. What a fun condition she was in.
"I couldn't die. Y' have t' understand. Please. I couldn't. 'T had nothin' t' do with... with hatred o'... o' with anythin' else. Those horrible things? They had t' happen. I had t'... I... Fact o' th' matter 's, I..."
She..?
...Wasn't going to finish that sentence, likely. A sigh escaped her in the place of the missing words as she tried to find something to say.
"'T wasn't like 't worked, anyway, 't--"
"..!!"
"--Don't y' dare put words in m' mouth. I never said tha'. Never."

This was all so overwhelming for the petite lady. Too overwhelming, really. She’d been quite accustomed to the sea center, and this place, despite its similarities, simply did not suffice. The last thing she needed — or was comfortable doing — was asking for directions. Now, when she saw other people, she would veer off and take a different path. Away from them, she’d hoped. There were only a few people she needed to talk to, and the rest… well, she’d do her best to avoid them, for the time being.
Frankly, Tsubame was terrified as to how they’d all treat her.
She kept going, nevertheless, now keeping her gaze plastered to the ground. Trying that hard to avoid everyone was futile. Eventually someone was going to notice her. She might as well cease her insistent caring about that and simply focus on finding some dorms and a stray jacket or blanket or the like. Something to keep her warm. There had to be a set of rooms around here somewhere… So she tilted her chin up solely to look for any sign of the desired destination, instead finding…
Just the person she’d been trying to locate, actually. Or, one of the people she’d been trying to find.
Should she..?
No, now wasn’t the time to second-guess herself. She would.
After a deep breath, she decided upon walking over to him. She wasn’t sure as to how the encounter would play out, but… they’d been friends forever, hadn’t they? Before all this… Yes, she remembered it far too well. So surely he, of all people, would present a reasonable response. Surely he’d be kind.
"Tictac..? Erm, Zach… Hey, ‘t’s… ‘t’s me, Tsuba."
cold | tsubame
Cold. She was so cold.
That was the first thought in her mind upon facing consciousness. A shiver shook her before she even opened her eyes. And when she did, she found… well, she couldn’t tell exactly what.
What was this..? Where was she? And why couldn’t she stop shaking?
…
She was gone, wasn’t she? The girl was so sure that no one had taken pity on her, had switched their vote, and yet… Here she was. Wherever ‘here’ was, exactly. If this was limbo, it was quite a cozy limbo. Frigid, surely, but cozy.
And… if this really was the limbo, then…
Tsubame pushed herself to her feet, unsteady yet determined to move on, and started off. She didn’t know where she was going or when she’d stop, but she’d keep moving forward. If this really was the limbo, then there were a few people she needed to find. And… maybe a sweater, too.
The diver could only hope to steer clear of any harsh remarks on her quest.
