...Why can't any of you just hate a murderer for once?
(Open) System message: Just breathe.
It was quiet as she shut the door behind her, a forced smile stretched on her face as she approached the small laptop, kneeling in front of it. Whirls of code flew by the screen… ones she was awfully familiar with in her job and had even seen a few of these sorts of lines before… was he trying to pull something? That seemed awfully dangerous…
However, Yasu ultimately found herself being curious… would Shuu hate her for what she tried to do in her own bedroom? Her mind was all scrambled… all ripped to shreds and broken on the floor that she wondered if the pieces could ever come together…
But the trial was soon, and she knew that… She couldn’t mess around now, even though she believed her hunches on these deaths with a determined conviction. Not just her life was at stake - though being frank, that wasn’t important to her in the slightest - but everyone else was on the line as well… and that was all important right now.
"Oy… Hey Shuu…" Her tone sounded forced, inhuman and wrong in a way far unlike her normal disposition as she spoke to the small, little laptop, her dialect dropped and her voice formal, "Ahaha… you look a little busy there… I guess that makes sense. I-I won’t stay long… I just wanted to speak out to you…"
"I couldn’t protect Rai… H-he’s dead…" She swallowed her guilt hard, admitting what had happened, "And Mariko then fell suit… I-I couldn’t do anything to help them… And I just let them die. I get how you’d be disappointed in me, I am a cop, just like you… but I can’t seem to do anything right… And for that I’m sorry.”
"But, I thought perhaps we can do something… I want to save the people in this place… No, I need to do that… I don’t give a shit about what happens to me, I just want to have some nice peace of mind that at the very least, I could have died making sure that the other students - our friends and damn near close to the only thing I can call my family - walk out of here a okay…”
"And I hope you think the same way too…" Yasu turned her head down, away from the computer, "You didn’t want to be useless… And I’m the same way. We’re two kin souls, trying desperately to be useful in this world…"
… and I just want to do my part as well…”
She stood up from her spot, speaking out to Shuu’s alter ego one last time, “But you’re busy… I get that and I’ll leave you to it for now. The trial’s in a little bit and… and I need to see if my hunches are right. For the sake of you, me, and everyone else…”
Opening up the door to the room, she turned around for a moment, waving to Shuu before she gave him a smile… her last, genuine smile that she could ever feel she could pull as she called out one last time.
“See ya on the other side, partner…”
The computer sat, lifeless as yasu spoke. Yasu was speaking fast, hurrying to the trial, trying not to be useless. Useful. The word made little sence anymore. Shuu peered over to the program running in the background, even as he tried to listen to yasu. They both wanted to be useful. speak it was like trying to reach through to the other side of a mirror.
He could see it clear as day but he could never touch it. We're only useful if we work together. The thought left him quickly as he saw Yasu quickly end her conversation with them. His words couldn't escape him this time, He had so many barriers alive now he could do anything, and he was letting her leave once again. His voice cracked as it exited the speakers, warped to an ungodly amount, but at lest he said it this time.
“See ya on the other side, partner…”
"Remember I'll always love you, bye!"
(Open) System message: Just breathe.
Endless codes, endless routes with dead ends and now here to go. Just like this body Shuu couldn't really see too far through the server. He's have to get through the firewalls. The computer screen had a black window, with green text scrolling upward as the alter ego manually typed in codes. Only to have none of the commands have any effect.
Small Humming came form the speakers, Shuu couldn't help but have a nostalgic feeling. Typing away on a computer, to the point where the words look like blurry messes. If only he could actually feel tired. If only he could actually feel again. Those type of thoughts didn't have an impact on him anymore.
He could remember when he was human and those thoughts would leave him with a numb feeling in his chest. Now all he dose is just input another command into the prompt. Nothing. Them suddenly the window minimized as Shuu listened carefully to someone calling out to him.
" Oh! You've come again I see? Did something happen? You look worried about something. It's nice to see you once again. Come on now, Don't look so down. Everything is temporary and everything dies. So come here, come sit and just breathe with me. "
SHUU IS A GAY LOL
Teehee, loves ya <3
(open) MESSAGE FROM SYSTEM: ...Hello?
”Come on, Shuu-san. I doubt you’re doing anything. You’re dead, after all. So unless you have access to the internet, what else is there to be doing?” He thought about it for a moment. If he got turned into one of these computer things when he died as well, he wondered if he’d be just as different as Shuu was acting. It was almost unsettling, but Rai brushed the thought aside.
”Help me? Aw, really? That’s super sweet of you. I’d never expect you to be that kind of guy, Shuu-san. Of course, the only way you can help me with that right now is to pull up the internet…”
He laughed in spite of himself. “If I get turned into a computer when I die though, and you’re still up for it… I’m pretty sure it might be possible so I’ll make sure to give you a call.”
" There is always something to do,but i guess someone as lazy as yourself wouldn't know that."Even with out the internet he would be talking to Ai or Hikari about the state of the school, and if they would some how team up to work a way out for everyone. It was far fetched but just like Rai said there wasn't much he could do in such a limited form.
" I'm not sure being kind is the right words to describe my actions. It's more like pity. Pity for the weak and vulnerable." A small chuckle coming off of the last words that came out of the speakers. " I'm sure you don't need internet to help, lets get creative."
" Ring me up then if you ever find yourself dead, It might be interesting to talk with you. Maybe someone will actually succeed where I failed."
Oh I see so you help Rai jerk it but not me. Mkay "partner", I thought we were in this together.
Is this your way of asking for a threesome, Partner?
(open) MESSAGE FROM SYSTEM: ...Hello?
”Geeze. That’s not very nice, Shuu-san. I don’t think I look any worse than before. Minus a few bruises, of course…” Rai admitted and toyed with the computer in his hand. “Besides… you look a little different yourself. Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen your mouth thanks to that stupid mask you always wore.”
A smile then graced his lips at Shuu’s answer. “Disgusting excuses? Gosh, what do you think I’m going to do? Look at something dirty? Don’t be stupid. If anything, I’d sooner be looking for a way out of this place. Or at least find some help from outside.
…But speaking of, how does this whole thing work anyway? Do you sleep or shower or anything? Hell, that actually sounds a lot nicer than living out here. Showering with one hand is really tricky. Well… almost everything is tricky with just one hand. Almost everything.”
" Different? No, I'm the same i just never had a reason to smile around you. Even now the only reason I'm doing it now is because i'm on a preset program!" the little display bounces as he talked, Just what could he gain out of this?
If anything they were just going to go back and forth about nothing. Was there an automatic an automatic function for this conversation? Shuu wondered if he could he just put on a prerecorded message and leave a fake display up so he could work on something more important.." No I don't sleep, But that doesn't mean I have all day to talk to you. Honestly are you even having trouble bathing? Then again did you even do that in the first place?"
Shuu let out a small little snicker, He wasn't quite sure what the point of the conversation was, In all honestly he had a side program going that was trying to figure it out while he was talking. It wasn't working. " Oh but if you ever come up short handed, It is my duty to help. I could try out giving you a hand with whatever you need it for."
(open) MESSAGE FROM SYSTEM: ...Hello?
Rai picked up the computer and examined it, being very careless with the item since he honestly didn’t give a damn about what happened to Shuu. In fact, why was he even in here anyway? This dude had tried to kill him.
But now that he was a computer, this just made it all the more fun. Rai could even show off that he was still alive, nonetheless, and still posing a threat. Haha, fuck you Shuu.
”Good morning, Shuu-san,” Rai greeted in a false cheerful tone. “Do I look all right to you? This is all your fault, you know? If you hadn’t tried to kill me, you wouldn’t be dead. And I wouldn’t be this injured. So, maybe you can learn from that in the future… Oh, wait. You’re dead. Never mind. You don’t have one anymore.”
It was pretty obvious that Rai was pissed. But he didn’t talk to Shuu just to get back at him. Nah, he wanted something else. Something he hoped a computer would have.
”Anyway, so, how can I close you out? I wanna see if there’s internet connection. It’s been a while since I’ve used a computer and there’s some er…. things I want to do.”
Was he seeing things straight? This was the last person Shuu expected too see. From what he can remember he saw him on the grass a little ways away from him. He wasn't dead. He was in fact beat up really bad, from what shuu could tell his face looked swollen, and he wasn't using his other arm.
" I'd rather be dead than look like you right now! My choices were my own and I'd do then ten times over if It meant i got to see your face just like this every time!" Like Hell he was going to be upset seeing rai. He didn't want him around but if he was going to stick around at lest he could get a conversation out of it.
" If you want to close me out, you might want to try waiting till were out of a school where everyone's dying before looking up disgusting excuses for your procrastination." He could never say these things before, was his system on some sort of a lock? or did he just delete his system settings for being polite? No, He just really hated the man in front of him.
[OPEN] ❊ It's a reasonable sacrifice;;
"But Shuu we can never… we can never run again, or kiss, or talk face to face— we’re both dead Shuu, and I saw your body bleeding out—"
Oh, Shuu hadn’t seen that part. Right. It had been after he died— mercifully breaking his neck instead of making him slowly lose air through strangulation before bloodying his body to shift the blame and dragging him to the wall. “You didn’t kill him you know— Rai. He was still alive. I… I broke his arm and nose, Shuu, because I couldn’t believe I saved someone like that.”
Sighing, they calmed themselves down slightly and the screen calmed with them— still flickering, but not enough to abstract the entire picture. They weren’t the bright and cheerful picture Shuu was, but… well, Shuu hadn’t had to go through what they had. They were still a good person in his eyes, for some reason.
"The fuck is there to do in a place like this, Shuu? We can’t do anything— we’re not even real anymore. We might as well be dead— after all I’ve done, I should be…"
They tried to reach out to Shuu but they could feel… nothing. They could touch nothing, move nothing. How were they so numb, yet so uselessly sad?
"Shuu… have you talked to Mari, or Yasu? They should hate me. I tried to make them hate me— but if they know you’re back, maybe they’ll want to talk to you again."
we can never run again, or kiss, or talk face to face
It was true. They never could touch ever again, Shuu would never be able to hold them again. There would never again be soft moments where he could sleep next to them. Sleep was something beyond him now, then again so was feeling anything but what they were programmed to feel. " Did I not kill rai? That's great! Why would you hurt him like that though? Did he do something to you as well that sparked your anger? Maybe we should be thinking of that right now! the past is the past, and all we can do is look forward to the future!"
Shuu watched as Ai calmed down slowly,The screens issues slowly disappearing. " There's a lot we can do later on Ai! Just think about what we can do when we get hooked up to the internet sooner or later. I can send you cute IM's when you're feeling sad, or we can use a map feature with a street view to go to different countries! We're anything but dead, we're going to be connected to literally the whole world.
As Ai reached out for him, he felt as if he was suppose to feel something. Something different than his endless flow of positivity. In some way he felt like he was suppose to act differently, But that thought quickly died in his memory. " Partner? I'm pretty sure no one hates you Ai! Everyone's just upset over the whole situation. There's no one to blame but the person who put us here."
Shuu made a little heart with his hands as he smiled up to Ai. " I know for a fact they will talk to you again soon and I'll never leave you."
(open) MESSAGE FROM SYSTEM: ...Hello?
As he went on, however, she start to feel like this was all but another cruel game Monobear was playing on them; having Shuu forget everything that he’d done, that Ai had done, that she had done to him. She felt a tint of anger come to her voice as she started to ask him questions.
"Nice to…see you again? Shizumiya-san, do you even remember what transpired last we talked? And do you remember what happened to you? What Asahi-san did to you and Maeda-san? H-“
Her voice caught in her throat-no she had to keep it together this time; she’d fucked up with the physical Shuu, she couldn’t-she had to keep her composure with this one. Maybe this was her second chance with him, the one she’d been wanting ever since she’d messed up last time.
"…I am feeling…fine. I can see you are feeling optimal as well-even without your glasses or mask, I see. Pray tell me, what do you remember about…well anything and everything that has happened here so far?"
Yes just slip the usual mask-broken and chipped as it was-back on; computers can’t judge you, right? She was the last thing from a computer genius but even she knew this much.
" It's nice to talk to you again, Ayase-san! We didn't have much time to talk when i was alive, We're both logical beings, I can see why we'd have n need for idle chatter!" The icon of shuu bounces as little as he talked to express his happiness. When Kikyo brought up what happened during his death The display's expression didn't even flinch from his seemingly permanent upbeat mood.
" AH-- yes I do remember in fact! exactly what happened to my physical self, until i died that was!" The tone in his voice didn't change, not even when he started to describe what happened. " I remembered trying to capture Maeda-san, in hopes of proving myself not useless. Ai stopped me though. Being snapped out of my delusions, My eyes were fixed on Maeda-san's body. I thought i had killed him! I begged Ai to kill me. At first it thought they weren't going to do it, that they were going to leave me for everyone to find me so i could be taken to the trial the next morning. Then He grabbed my face and then i woke up here!"
Still smiling, Shuu nodded in comment to Kikyos comment on him being optimistic. " Yes I figured masks are something i no longer needed! hiding behind such shields only create difficulty in your life!" His icon swayed softly left and right. " Masks cause difficulty when creating bonds with people, and when you can't create bonds, life becomes generally hard to live. I find it really surprising how in death I am able to understand it, yet it was lost on me when I was alive."
(open) MESSAGE FROM SYSTEM: ...Hello?
Walking into Shuu’s room Mari could already tell that he was there in the computer. She frowned as she listened to the glitches, standing at the door before slowly walking over and picking up his computer.
"It’s alright, Shuu-kun. I’m glad to see ya though…" Her expression remained somber. Why did he sound so… Cheery? That was certainly different from the Shuu she knew… But still, she was happy to see him in much higher spirits.
"I-I’m doin’ fine myself… Ah… Well, since I’m here… You can probably guess what happened… Ai—"
She bit her lip, looking away from Shuu. His death had been in vain in a sense… He hadn’t killed Rai… Though his actions were cruel… He hadn’t deserved such a fate…
"… Ai-kun’s dead. They were found guilty of your murder… I’m sorry…"
A large smile greeted mari as she spoke to him, his picture rocked back and forth as he listened to Mari talk to him. It was so nice to hear her talk to him again. Even if his physical body is dead, he felt like could live forever even if all he very got was people coming to him crying. Even if he had to face an entirety of his friends coming to him in tears, at lest they would always come to him.
" Yes I know he's dead, I was talking to him earlier today! " Shuu's display jumped up a bit, trying to express his happiness as he spoke. " Mari-chan. Please don't cry, Everything is okay. I'm right here! there's nothing we can't do that we couldn't do when i was alive! You an still take me places, anywhere you want. I'm actually very easily transported now. So feel free!"
[CLOSED ((EGO Shuu))] ║ Stand Where Others Have Fallen
She needed to talk to someone… She needed to talk to Shuu…
…
She got up from her bed, heading outside from her room as she snuck into the room next door, closing it behind her and locking it with Shuu’s ID card that she had gotten from Ai… hm, looks like dead students ID cards still worked. Maybe she could still be male with an ID card like Shuu’s…
And there it sat, on the bed… the happy, glowing face of Shuu Shizumiya…
"………"
Words wouldn’t come out… did he even see her? Hell, would he want to see her? She’d failed so much… done so little… She couldn’t even investigate the body right! She didn’t even notice when tears welled up in her eyes…
Through the weakest voice she could ever muster… she choked out…
"… P-partner…”
Shuu's little window floated up to the screen, heating Yasu's voice as she walked into his room. Even if he couldn't feel how she did anymore, he could still understand when something was off about them. Shuu's smile didn't fade, but rested at a small simple smile.Even if he couldn't touch them, even if he couldn't feel them anymore. He sure as hell was going to be there for her. Nothing, not even death could stop him from doing that. As long as he had a will there wouldn't be a day that he wouldn't be there for his partner.
" Partner!-- Hey what are you doing out so late? Isn't it late? you should be sleeping after everything that happened. thought, I'm so glad I could get to talk to you. I honestly thought you would have avoided me like the plague! " Because he wasn't his original self, he was a copy. Even so, eve a copy of him self care for his partner.
" You should take the bed here in the room though, you look really tired. I can talk to you till you feel sleepy if that's what you want. Oh I didn't even ask you what it was that you come into my room to talk about! " The large smile was back on the display and didn't show signs to fading. " So go on partner, I can stay up for as long as you want!"

In the static, a small ding. Then a voice, the only clear sound they had heard since waking up as a computer, and it was—
"…Shuu?"
There on the screen, smiling in a way he had never done during life, the boy they had killed a scant day earlier. He was so happy, how could he be so happy? Even Ai, with their well deserved fall to their death fresh in their mind, still smarted at the memory. To be killed by a friend— no, someone more than a friend— and to greet him like this the very next day?
"Shuu I’m so sorry…"
Even though Shuu’s side of the screen glowed brightly and clearly, Ai’s side flickered and pixelated the more agitated they got. It was almost impossible to see them through the distortion, but tears visibly fell from their eyes. “I’m so sorry Shuu I killed you…”
Shuu watched the others fuzzy distorted screen, trying to make out their face. Why were they crying? The voice was just as hard to understand, It being jumbled in glitch noises and audio clipping. " But I asked you too." The simple answer was laid out, it was true. Shuu did ask them, and like anyone who would be kind to him Ai only did what he asked.
Watching the flickering screen, Shuu still smiled, even though it was a briefly melancholy one. " Please don't be sad,I'm a lot happier here now! Being alive only really caused me a lot of confusion and stress no living person honestly needed! You did nothing wrong, and there's no way i could ever be mad at you when I ended up in such a nice place like this. Think of all the things we could do Ai, for forever too in fact! "
" I think i'm mostly okay with this because I get to talk to you for so much longer than any human body would allow me too. Not only you, but everyone I care about." Shuu's little screen light up in delight, bouncing a little as he talked. " And That's all thanks to you! So with that in mind, How on earth could I ever be upset?"
[OPEN] ❊ It's a reasonable sacrifice;;
Trapped in this room alone, something they had avoided up until now, trapped in this small box unable to feel or move or think, the darkness and walls closing in on them. There were no stars, there was nothing but darkness and boxes and walls and the empty void they were floating in anymore.
They could only muster a small whisper through the speakers of their computer, glitched out with static and the ocassional dead pixels that shattered their screen.
"Hel— bttz — p me, ple — chhk — se, someone get me out of here…"
exploring his new where about, Shuu couldn't help but be curious of everything. It looked as if via servers he could visit other alter egos, they were all on the save server so they were all connected somewhere in the hard drive. Seeing a clear pathway over to Ai's room, He rerouted himself and transferred over to AI's computer.
A small loading bar popped up on Ai's computer, slowly crawling to 100% The whole screen blacking out for a brief second. A clear voice entered the speakers, the screen splitting into two smaller windows. one with Shuu's face and one with Ai's. As shuu's head popped up His virtual hair bounced, as he gave a smile a very happy greeting.
" Ai look, I got the connect to work! Yahoo--! I cannot believe I actually got that to work out so smoothly!" Shuu stuck his tongue out a little before his whole window shook as he laughed. His smile only looking more and more bright as he talked. " It's nice to talk to you. I feel like I haven't heard your voice in years."

Cold. That night was so cold. Yasu. Where's Yasu? Could he remember what happened? could he even try to remember what he thought that night? He remembered crying, sadness and death. Was he a killer? It's Cold. everything felt so cold. Ai. Where's Ai?
A soft ding came from the computer,an image of Shuu's face appeared on the screen. His eyes were closed, the computer was silent but the soft hum of the fan. Till, suddenly the picture of Shuu jolted violently, his eyes shooting open.
" Help. I'm-- scaRED." The computer screen glitched suddenly, shuus voice repeating words that made no sense. Shuu's expression was neutral but there was a fear in the pictures eyes. " HELP ME-- 'm sorry" Random code blurted out from the computer, the picture of Shuu's face becoming engulfed in black and replaced with bright green code. A soft high pitched tone exerting from the speakers. Till the code stopped and the code scrolled and erased itself. only to have the Boy's face reappear once more.
" S-Sorry about that!" His voice glitched in and out shortly. His over all tone chipper, the happiest that voice has ever sounded before. " I'm still not use too-- Too this." The complications stopped, The screen became clear and and bright yellow eyes sprang onto the screen. A soft laugh coming form the computer. His eyes captured the person who was holding the computer, the picture bounced happily bubbling out a soft 'aha!'
" Hello, Hello hello!" He greeted the classmate holding him. The overly happy voice rang out. " It's nice to see you again, what happened? are you alright? Fill me in come on, come sit with me!"

Oh.
OH…
OHHHHH…
Of all the people she didn’t want to know that she was a huge fucking liar, it was probably Shuu. In fact, she could say that with almost 100% certainty that she had been terrified of this moment. Her heart had stopped when Shuu has approached her… his face staring her down in almost a cold like fashion…
" You lied to me..”
Fuck fuck fuck... he was going to be beyond upset, as she barely choked out the words, turning away from his with her eyes closed in shame, “P-partner… listen, I’m—”
” and I can understand why.”
From that simple phrase, her eyes sprung back open, looking into his eyes with almost a crazy concoction of both surprise and confusion… was he… forgiving her?
"S-Shuu…?!" Yasu exclaimed, "I don’t deserve this sort of thing… I lied straight to your face, not even just with gender but with other shit too. But, why are you forgiving me…?!"
" You lied with a reason behind it. a reason that is entirely understandable. Shuu adjusted his glasses, Looking over yasu's face shuu was a little confused. They looked like they were going to cry and yet he was forgiving them quit easily.
" There's no need to cry.." Or at lest he thought they were about to. " Shuu gave them a smile he would have even sprung to punch her in the arm but maybe that was a little too out there? " Why wouldn't I forgive you? isn't that what true friends do with each other?" Shuu cocked and eye brow and frowned a little.
"People are always going to hurt you or betray your trust eventually one way or the other. It's a fact of life, and I refuse to hate you just because you lied for your own personal reasons. That' would be foolish." Shuu stuffed his hands into his pants pocket and his eyes shifted. " Oh.. By the way, is it okay if I ask you for some advice? I'm a little confused on something and I feel like some of your practical thoughts would help right about now.."
♐[Open] Aim for the weak point,and...Bullseye☉
She had entered the game room with the intention of finding those long sticks near the pool table that she’d seen earlier, and finding some way to bring them back to her cabin. She would most likely have to break them right then and there in the game room-if memory served her right, they were quite long. It would extremely risky-someone could overhear it. But she had to try…and if not, then she could always come back to break them; perhaps at night? That was even riskier-Sato had been killed in the early morning, after all. She vowed to go around 11 at night should she need to.
Unfortunately all her plans came screeching to a halt once she saw Shuu standing at the pool table holding on the sticks. Drat, she really would have to come retrieve them in the dead of night. 11 PM it was then.
"Hello Shizumiya-san. I would gladly accompany you however…I do not know how to play. This is actually my first time seeing such a game."
Oh, he had noticed her troubled expression-damn her for wearing her emotions on her proverbial sleeve!-and had offered advice. Damn, she was going to have to lie to him. Pity, she had found him quite interesting-and she was hoping she would be able to be truthful with him as long as possible. But as things were now, it seemed that it was not meant to be. She took a small breath before giving him what she hoped was a small, believable smile.
"Oh thank you for your concern, but I think I will be fine. This morning’s…event has just been troubling me-as it has been troubling everyone else the same way, to be sure."
" Really? This is your first time seeing something like this? Honestly, this is only the second time I've played this game, the other time was back home with my father when i was far too little to remember most of it. " Shuu leaned back and hit at the colored balls, sending them flying over the felt table and he sighed. Before looking over the table top once again with calculating eyes.
He glanced over at Kikyo with the same sharp gaze and the moment she started to speak he frowned. He could tell a faked smile from a mile away. He may of been bad at faking being happy, but he knew a mask when he saw one. It was his job to be observant. standing up tall, and holding the stick he was leaning on.
" The mornings event would trouble any one I suppose.." He adjusted his glasses as he spoke. " Still.. I know a faked expression when i see one, If you wish to keep your feeling hidden then that is your business and yours alone. Still a simple ' please don't ask' would have sufficed, Please don't resort to lying or i would have to see you as untrustworthy in the future." Shuu didn't speak with any negativity in his voice, it sounded more like a recorded message form a machine, as if he had to repeat that message so many times he had a system for it.
