(Ab)normal Day | The Sky is Falling (or maybe just you) | Suzume | RE: Event (ATTN: Hachirou)
shslfashionblog
Once Suzume was supporting her own weight again, she felt another wave of lightheadedness and put a hand to her forehead. It was enough to make her wonder if she should have just kept quiet and let just Hachi continue carrying her after all. At least he didn’t leave her completely without support. She graciously grabbed onto his arm and allowed him to guide her to her bed with no protest.
She set her keycard down on the nightstand and pulled a spare blanket from the other side of the bed to wrap around herself. She was tempted to lie down but instead remained sitting at the edge for the moment. It would have been rude to fall asleep on him, yeah?
“I… don’t know where exactly. Everywhere?”
Thinking for a moment, she rubbed a hand over her forehead.
“… but I guess it’s more around here? It throbs pretty badly and I get lightheaded and dizzy and… it’s worse the more I move around.”
She sighed and slipped her hand back under her blanket cloak.
“And no… I don’t think I feel clammy. Just… cold… and tired.”
Did she feel a little warm? It’d been a long time since she’d come down with anything worthy of a fever. Maybe about two years or so… ?
Ugh… This is the absolute last thing she wanted right now. It was already bad enough she was stuck here, but did she have to have the horrible misfortune on spending what could be her last moments on earth ill from some kind of bug or virus too? (And god forbid if she spread it.)
Her eyes went downcast.
“I’m sorry to trouble you with this, Shibata-san…”
There was a worried frown pressed thin on Hachi's face.
"Huh? Oh, nah s'ok. Not like ya chose to get sick or somethin', y'know?"
He took a step back from where he loomed over the bed, and turned his head towards the door for a second before back to her.
"Do you want me to try and see if this place has any sort of meds or anythin'? Oh, uh, prolly somethin' to eat with 'em too if I even find any unless you managed to eat somethin' earlier today?"
It seemed that he was barely paying any attention to any guilt she could have been feeling over this problem. Instead, his mind was already racing through the best way to help her through this. Granted, his knowledge for treatments were derived from aiding cows and dogs, but they could apply to simple stuff like fevers, right?

superduperforensics:
Seemingly completely ignorant of Hachi’s discomfort, Aideen just… continues to carefully arrange cookies on the tray. Man, she was great at this. Must be that artist touch. She does at least sound disappointed at the announcement that a giant cookie wouldn’t work… although her expression doesn’t quite fit it.
“Oh, nooo… that’s a cryin’ shame, innit? But they do make those giant cookie things! With frostin’ on ‘em and all that! Buuuut… animal caretaker? Oooah!”
She looks up from the pan, which currently has… a smiley face made out of cookies on it. Me too.
“Do you work with dogs? Or… bears? Those are the best animals!”
Thanks for your opinion, dude!
Aideen continues watching Hachi as the subject shifts to the darker topic of Murder, idly rearranging the cookies on the tray as she grins and chatters away. Who knows why she’s so oddly enthusiastic about this. What a weirdo.
“Ahuhuhu, don’t be silly! I’m sure there’ll be some new motive soon and someone’ll be dead before we know it. I mean, oh no. But, yeah. Like, don’t get your hopes up, doll!”
She lets out a tittering laugh before registering the description given. Ah… how ironic! Although her expression remains smiling, her eye narrows a bit, and she shrugs and turns back to her sketchbook abruptly.
“You mean Daisuke, right? The weddin’ planner? Yeah, yeah, mhm… here, I’ve got a picture of him, actually! Ahuhu.”
After a moment of rustling around, she turns back to face Hachi, holding up a page of her sketchpad. On it is… a drawing of a body. Holy shit. Way to make civil conversation.
“Yeah, you just missed him! He was the one killed by his boyfriend. Super unfortunate, innit? Too bad! That’s why teen romance doesn’t work, in my opinion. But anyway, is the oven ready yet?”
The cookies, now arranged in a frowny face, were probably ready.
Only a laugh left Hachi in response to her dissuasion regarding his hopes, but the sketch... Well, Yyu didn't have to be an expert at body language to be able to see how Hachi visibly wilted at the display of the picture. Well, how else were you supposed to react at such a... vivid explanation?
"Ah... is that so then... Who would have thought it'd be like that?"
Maybe he hadn't been the most vocal person before, but now he was just downright quiet. Without another word, he opened the fridge to pull out another set of eggs and veggies now that another omelet was on the order.
"Oh, but uh, the temperature should be ready in a bit here? This thing heats up really quick since it's all fancy stuff that was prolly supposed to be good to us before this all happened, I guess."
How nice it was to be able to perk up so quickly, even if it wasn't a 100% recovery.
He began to prepare his own workload of food. As he worked with finesse through all of it, he spoke with a voice teetering on cheery.
"But uh, I don't think it's good to just toss away romance like that, y'know? Who knows all that led to what happened, and all that could have been. Ye, this was sad to know but... Ah, ye, I dunno what I'm really talkin' bout I guess. I just get sad to hear people talk about it like that."
Could also to do with the fact that you might have someone of your own, but who knows, right?

superduperforensics
SHSL Directions Follower Aideen is not, apparently. Nor does she seem to be particularly observant- distracted by rifling around in her bag for something, she apparently doesn’t notice Hachi’s confusion over her cooking tactics. Or maybe she does? It’s hard to tell. Either way, she fumbles around for some time until she pulls out a pad of paper, predictably enough, and a pencil. After flipping to a new page and scribbling something down, she finally looks up at him.
“Haah? Pre-heat? Oh, right! They always do that on Food Network! Got it- oh, I have to open it too? Jeez, cookin’ is a hassle.”
So apparently she had been listening. Dutifully enough, at least, she puts her paper down and watches as Hachi retrieves her pan. What a hero.
“Silly me, innit? Guess it’s just the stress gettin’ to me! I swear, doll, I don’t do things like this on the regular, huh? Ahuhuhu, glad you’re here to help, though. Otherwise, we coulda had a right disaster, yeah?”
A right disaster, not unlike her current struggles to open the package.
“See, what’s the problem, though, with one big circle? Wouldn’t that be cool? A giant cookie? Oh, they make cakes like that, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be the same way? Ah, well. I’ll follow your instructions! You’re the expert here, right? Ooooah, speakin’ of expert!”
With a particularly violent tug (perhaps she’s expelling some of that aforementioned stress), the package pops open and Aideen laughs, making sure to block the cookies before they fly off the counter.
“That would be awful sweet of you, Hachi… rou? Hachi! Ahuhuhu. Are you a chef? You don’t really look like one, ahuhu- no offense! We had a chef, but… whoops! He killed his boyfriend. Innit messed up?”
Way to say that with a completely out-of-place grin, Aideen. She doesn’t seem to notice for several moments, enough time to move over and casually begin to preheat the oven. When she turns back around, she looks sufficiently mournful, at least.
“A shame, huh… that our poor classes had to go and be like this… makes me wonder who’s next, with this doublin’ up, yeah? Hm! Anyway, I’m Aideen Quinn. A pleasure, huh!”
Hachi could only laugh uncomfortably at the… almost jab at his expertise. Mind you, this had to be basic culinary skill, right? Then again, with the horrors he’s seen in Mizu’s kitchen since the start…. But! There was always time to improve upon it, right? Aideen was already learning how to use an oven, so all couldn’t be lost.
“Well, it’s not like the consistency of a cake. If ya did that, it wouldn’t cook evenly thorough.”
Also because it’d be gross probably.
“I’m not a chef at all though, haha. Uh, my title’s actually Animal Caretaker if that says anythin’ ‘bout how little I have to do with food. My mom just taught me.”
It hadn’t been by accident that he glossed over the mention of a chef. Or rather, he glossed over the second part of what she had said. The idea of someone’s boyfriend or girlfriend being murdered by their beloved… There was a visible gulp that bobbed in his throat at that thought.
“But- hopefully no one’s next? Is that a bit too silly to hope at this? Hehe…”
That probably sounded a bit too morbid with the light tone he said it, oops.
“Oh, ‘m curious, so I hope it’s okay to ask? There was a classmate of yours. Uh… he had brown hair? And part of it was buzzed at the sides. He had piercings too? Is he… alright? ‘M just wonderin’ since I missed the huge gatherin’ so, ye.”
God he hoped that was enough to suffice as a description, because the name had long escaped him.
(Ab)normal Day | The Sky is Falling (or maybe just you) | Suzume | RE: Event (ATTN: Hachirou)
Suzume tensed at Hachirou’s very brief notice, but any attempts to protest this were caught in her throat once she was lifted up into his arms and instead turned into some kind of mildly distressed noise. Cripes this was so embarrassing! Where before she just felt cold and woozy, now she was burning purely and completely red. Embarrassment and shame.
Why did she always have to be such a burden?
She could at least take comfort that B Block wasn’t too far away… Or rather… that’s where he seemed to be taking her anyhow. Made sense, though this also meant that she wasn’t going to get to find out what all that racket was about. (Hopefully it wasn’t anything too serious. No one was running around screaming for their lives, so there was always that.)
Part way down the hall, she let out a quiet breath and tentatively leaned her head against his shoulder. No sense in fighting it now. Remaining all tense like that was only making her more exhausted than she needed to be and she really didn’t want to sleep again. Not yet.
Then finally, they stopped… and straight ahead was… Stormy’s door…
… don’t think about that.
“… huh?”
Hachirou’s voice broke her thoughts and her eyes drifted over to her pajama pants.
“Oh… right. It’s in my pocket.”
It was a little awkward from her position, but she managed to wiggle it free and held it up for him.
“Here.”
A pause.
“… though you might need a free hand to open the door.”
… Was that a statement or a hint?
To be fair, Hachi would have been willing to try and coordinate unlocking the door with Suzume in his arms, but she seemed... less than trusting of his ability to accomplish it? So instead, he decided to take the hint.
“Ye, prolly not, heh. Uh, can you stand then? Here-”
With steady arms, Hachi began to shift her until she was standing on her feet with his assistance. The arm closest to her remained on her, serving as a crutch for her to balance her weight on.
And then the door was unlocked, and he took a step forward and waited. Well, there was no objections for him going into her room, so... green light? He helped her to the bed and let out a sigh of relief.
“So uh, where does your head hurt exactly? And do ya feel clammy at all? ‘Cause you’re a bit warmer than you should be.”
Thoughts were already running through his head about treatment, although the lack of any proper clinic or infirmary, there was only so much he could accomplish.
i think there's a fault in my code | aideen | (ab)normal days | attn: hachirou
Well, at least her new acquaintance seemed… nice. Or something. She supposed nice was an apt description. He certainly looked harmless enough, in her opinion, but who knew if that was actually an accurate judge of character or not. Regardless of her internal analysis of him, however, she continues to smile, giving a sheepish laugh as if very bashful about her complete lack of kitchen ability.
“I know… it’s really sad, innit? I try so hard every day of my sick life, and I’m rewarded with absolutely no ability in the kitchen. That was a… hypo… hip… exaggeration, though. I mean, I know how to use an oven! Ahuhu… sort of.”
It was really hard to tell if she was serious or not, to be honest. Still, she seems to be heeding Hachi’s advice, turning dramatically towards the oven and opening it with a flourish.
“Ah-ha! It’s empty. So I can just… put them in, right?”
Looking quite proud of herself, she skips back over to the counter, flipping the bag of cookies over to look at the back and giving it a brief once-over.
“Now that the thing is empty, the cookies go on a tray, and then in for 15 minutes! That’s easy.”
…So maybe she wasn’t joking about having no expertise. She seems to gloss over a line or so of instruction entirely in favor of digging around for a flat pan, putting the package on it… and then putting it in the oven without unwrapping it. Honestly, she may be attempting murder by burning down the kitchen.
After shutting the door proudly and setting the timer (at least she could do that), she turns back around, clapping her hands together cheerily.
“Ahuhuhu, thanks, doll! That was way easier than I thought it was! So, now, while those cook… what’s your name? You’re from this place, right?”
Way to make small talk with the guy you’re about to accidentally kill, Aideen.
Wow did she read that package quickly or what. Was that just a part of her title?
"Er ye, you can pu-"
Before he could even finish the second part of his explanation, he was too entranced by the display of someone putting the entire package of cookies on a pan and then tossing them in. For a moment, his eyes glazed over as he stood there, dazed and confused. No words could explain the wave of befuddlement that passed through him.
Finally, he managed to snap himself out of it with a shake of his head. He stepped forward with a quick pace.
"Ahaha, well, uh, you gotta... Ya gotta pre-heat it first, which'll take a bit. And then ya gotta unwrap the uh..."
He waved at the cookies still sitting there on the pan inside.
"Wrapper. And then separate the cookies and place them apart so they don’t just all melt together into one big... circle, ye."
God help him. Were he and Suzume the only people in this entire school that could cook? Did he need to start making microwavable meals that people could pull pout from the fridge?
He pulled the pan out of the oven and placed it gently on the closest counter.
"But ye, I’m Hachirou Shibata. You’re welcome to call me whatever you want from that since I don’t mind, and ye, I’m a part of what was supposed to be this class. Why don't ya open it up and do that? I can make you an omelet while you work on that, if you'd like since the preheating will take a while anyways?"
Despite his inner turmoil set on by the abysmal culinary skills of this entire school, he shined her an encouraging smile.
(Ab)normal Day | The Sky is Falling (or maybe just you) | Suzume | RE: Event (ATTN: Hachirou)
shslfashionblog
Suzume had only been out for a few moments, but when she opened her eyes again, she was lying on her back and staring up at the ceiling. Kneeled down at her side was Hachirou, looking very concerned. She blinked a few times and turned her head to look at him.
“Shibata-san…”
She had to admit that she enjoyed the feeling of his hand on her forehead. It was very warm and comforting. Safe. She briefly closed her eyes until he was finished and he took his hand away, which she replaced with one of her own and cringed slightly.
“Ugh… My head hurts…”
Well, that was certainly helpful.
She took in a long breath and sighed before slowly pulled herself up to a sitting position. In some vain attempt to soothe away the headache and lightheadedness, she started rubbing her face with both hands. While she still felt woozy, at least it was nothing like before. Not even close.
“I’m sorry for worrying you… I… think I’m okay now. Thank you.”
As long as she didn’t make any sudden movements or anything, she would be okay, right?
… well, assuming Mizu was okay.
“Do you know what happened? I heard… an explosion?”
"Oh, uh, I dunno. I was about to see when I found you. And it hurts? Where does it- Actually..."
Maybe it might be best to ask these kind of questions once Suzume wasn't lying on the hard floor of the dorms.
"Okay so uh, I'm gonna pick ya up on three. One, two..."
Up she went in his arms. There was a sigh of exertion once she was properly stabilized in his arms, and then with steady steps, Hachi was hauling her right back to the rooms of sector B.
He paused for a moment as two doors (well, three, but with its owner now gone...) presented themselves as options for him to take. Had Suzume been flat out unconscious, privacy would take precedence and it would have been his room for sure. However, Suzume was conscience, and there was no real reason not to try.
"Yyyyo.... Where's your keycard? Unless you wanna go to my room but I figure that's not really the case so ye."
Smooth.

shsl-doubttsuchi:
Now, Aideen didn’t claim to be any sort of technological whiz. There was a reason she stuck to traditional profiling instead of electronic. Heck, it’d taken her a while to figure out her keycard. And yet, while her knowledge was admittedly limited… she was pretty sure error warnings weren’t supposed to appear in the sky. Here she was, trying to have a good time after being sent an exciting murder video, and now… the sky was glitching. Great. She absolutely loved life.
And Monobear didn’t know what was happening, which was, of course, mildly concerning. Wasn’t it great when the animatronic (presumably) bear host who murdered people without a care didn’t know what was up? Instinctively Aideen takes a place at the back of the gathering crowd, tense and obviously prepared to bolt at and… shenanigans.
And shenanigans there were. Aside from her feeling faint (run your exercises again, jeez-!) and looking incredibly suspicious, there was… another bear. Another class? She’d never interacted with any of them before, having still, miraculously, been a suspicious ass when the area had been merged. And now… here they were. In her sky islands.
“「 You’ve straight up gotta be shittin’ me, honestly. What kinda shit you think we’re here to deal with?」”
But of course everyone would be getting all introduced and that formality stuff that she really didn’t care about. Aideen, of course, was quite annoyed! She’d just dealt with one class’s ridiculous tendencies, and now she had to redo all that for the other? There was already a cowboy standing out, and like, some really tall person with bangs? And what was she supposed to do? Bullshit a personality again if she ran into any of them?
“Honestly.”
Honestly. She’d had enough! Looking grumpy, she slinks back away from the crowd, lurking around until they clear out enough. Life was such a hassle, really.
Eventually, though, less people linger, and Aideen can scoot out and through the portal. I mean, if it was there, she might as well explore.
—–
Some time later, Aideen had concluded that Water Dome was way more exciting than Sky Island. It didn’t have the boring forest thing, for one, and it had rides she could actually enjoy- such as the lazy river, where you sit and do nothing. Not that she’d done that, because she was dignified. No, instead she’d raided a food stand and then sent several annoying texts to her Best Buddies ™.
But now, she was bored once more. Mizu was more exciting, sure, but that was more exciting than perhaps the most boring place on Earth. Or… in the sky. It was like Dismaland. Suffice to say, she’d exhausted her exploration potential, and now had to wander around for several hours until something else inevitably happened and she got to go look at a dead body, or something.
Her strong point was, evidently, not optimism.
As if drawn by a magnet, she arrived in the kitchen after a while. Or more accurately, the freezer. At least it was all in one place here, but-
“Uhmmmmm… hrm.”
She emerges after a bit, staring contemplatively at a box of frozen… cookies? These were those ready-made ones you put in the oven, right? And yet, her list of not-talents had to be amended with chef. Too bad she’d accused theirs (correctly!) of murder.
With a sigh, she tosses it on the counter, intending to just let it thaw and then eat the dough. And yet… she wasn’t alone.
“….Uh.”
There’s quite a moment of awkward silence as she considers something, and then she scratches her cheek and puts a grin on her face.
“Ahuhu, hey, doll! This is awkward, innit? We’ve never met, and now you know my greatest secret, huh… I really dunno how to use an oven at all! It’s embarrassin’, uaaah… don’t tell anyone, ‘kay?”
(Honestly, what a hassle this day was turning out to be.)
Well, today had been hectic in more days than one. With all that had gone on since the merge itself (something he had only been informed of later via text at that), Hachi hadn’t had a chance to properly address the discomfort grumbling in his stomach until now.
After mulling through the overwhelming amount of options the kitchen supplied him with, he decided to go with something basic. An omelet, for example.
He had been in the process of pulling out the eggs and veggies from the fridge when he heard footsteps nearing, and suddenly, a sigh filled what was otherwise silence followed by a hollow thud hitting the counter. Immediately, Hachi straightened up to peek around the door and stare at the newcomer.
Thank god Rhi had filled him in, because he would have been terrified otherwise.
Then again, having someone in high school tell you that they didn’t know how to operate an oven was also incredibly terrifying in its own way.
“Ya don’t-...”
Well, it didn’t help to repeat what she just said. That’d just be a dick move when you clearly heard what she had just confided.
“Well first of all you should check to make sure there’s nothin’ in the, uh-”
He casually motioned to the door to the oven.
“Thing first. After that then you just preset it to the temperature and then pop it inside once it’s that temp.”
That probably was helpful to someone who had never used one before, right?
Hachi set down his own ingredients on the counter and took a small step closer towards her.
“So first of all, check what temperature the, uh... wrapper tells you to on the back. And see if it has any sort of preparation for it too.”
(Ab)normal Day | The Sky is Falling (or maybe just you) | Suzume | RE: Event (ATTN: Hachirou)
She should have been relieved, shouldn’t she? She survived another trial, food was restored to Mizu, and they were all safe from motives and death for at least a little while longer. This was… what she hoped for, wasn’t it?
Then why did she feel so rotten for it?
This last trial was far unlike the ones they’ve endured in the past and it’d done nothing but haunt her since. Two innocent lives were gone. Two of her dearest friends had been threatened with the same fate… and all over the kindness of sharing food. It was a terrifying realization that made her feel very ill and she couldn’t help but feel personally responsible for it all.
if she’d just died–
In the days since then, Suzume would hardly bring herself to leave her room except out of necessity or by request. She was ashamed and scared and so very tired. Right down to her soul. Much of her time was now spent curled up under blankets, drifting in and out of a restless sleep while her waking hours were spent suffering relentless aches and pains– her head, her stomach, and even her heart. She was always so cold now, and her energy levels had plummeted to the point that she could hardly remain awake more than an hour or two.
So when the error messages start popping up in what should have been the ocean around Mizu, a bleary-looking Suzume watched in confusion from her bed as she wondered briefly whether it was all some kind of bizarre dream.
… but it was no dream. It was real. It was very real.
Just as she managed to pull herself up into a sitting position, her eyes widened as she suddenly felt herself unable to breathe. Her put a shaking hand to her chest as her thoughts swirled in a panic. She was feeling woozy and weak and…..
….
Suzume’s snapped open to the sound of an explosion, and for a second time, she sat up in her bed (wait, how did she end up lying down again?) but with far more urgency than before.
… ow, headache. Don’t sit up too fast.
Swallowing hard, she threw off the blankets, pocketed her keycard, and headed for the door. She didn’t even bother to take the time to change out of her pajamas. This was urgent, and even she knew better than to take explosions in underwater tunnels too lightly. This couldn’t be good.
Suzume never even made it to the lobby.
Barely after making it through the B Block tunnel, she could feel herself growing faint again. Her head felt light and everything seemed to spin and fade. Her legs wobbled and threatened to give out beneath her, forcing her to stop and reach out to the wall for support…
… but the floor came anyway.
Things had been... calm? Well, calm was a relative word when it came to life in Mizu. But Hachi was grateful for it all the same.
Isolation had become a bit of a theme for Hachi after trials nowadays. Maybe it was out of shame, maybe anxiety. Or maybe it was just out of the pure fear and hurt he had felt over an apple. Either way, it had helped to have a breather to decompress after the tension caused from trials, and if withdrawing from the class for a bit helped him do so... Well, they knew his room number or could just get his actual number should that fail.
Plus, it gave him time to realize what a mess his room had become. The big things had always been taken care of through daily routine, sure, but all the small things that broke away from the motions sure loved to pile up, huh?
He’d been in the process of just powering through it all when the commotion starts. First the errors, and then everything that abruptly follows. Well, cleaning can wait. The entire dome going to shit probably was a much more urgent issue at hand.
Although, opening the door to be greeted to the lovely view of his neighbour colliding her face to the floor prooooobably was even more urgent. Cue the concerned panic.
“S...! Uh....! Hey! Are you okay?!”
Obviously not if she’s lying on the floor, but points for bedside manners. Immediately, his knees were on the ground and he was handling Suzume’s body so she was properly lying flat on the floor.
His fingers pressed against her neck, and when he felt a pulse, a small sense of relief poured in. Small being keyword considering she still collapsed.
“You with me right now? What’s wrong?”
As he asked, his hands kept moving. Next to her forehead to get a general sense of temperature. God, if he somehow gave her what he had been recovering from last week...
