true colors || mio || prologue || re: menma

Menma smiled somewhat expectantly as Mio began to introduce herself. She found that Hope’s Peak Academy’s students were quite the odd bunch; some of her peers had talents she had never even heard of. Granted, her okiya wasn’t buzzing with pop-culture, but Menma thought she knew quite a lot about Japan’s talented youth. Never had she met someone who specialized in puzzles— of all things; she wasn’t even sure what a “3x3″ was.
I’m intrigued—
“It’s an honor to meet you, Tanazaki-san.” She said, giving her head another small bow. “Extraordinaire… that’s a rather bold statement. I revere such confidence— I hope you do, however, forgive my ignorance about puzzles and…3x3′s?”
She smiled once more; her eyes were gentle… almost maternal as she watched Mio in anticipation. Menma surely treated the other like she was an “extraordinaire”. It seemed she wasn’t the type to drop formalities even while trapped.
It’s only been a moment— there’s no need to protest yet.
“If you’d like to know, my name is Menma Endoso. I’m far from extraordinary, but I take pride in being an apprentice geiko.” Menma interlaced her fingers behind her back, giving a slight nod. “Oh, yes. I do believe I was a third-year.”
The minute the words left her mouth, Mio nearly regretted it; however, upon hearing the other’s... surprisingly respectful response, she returned a smile of her own, feeling slightly more comfortable with Menma’s presence. She was glad that the other didn’t treat her talent as just some sort of party trick or something along those lines. Enough people had done that to her in the past, and, well... for a moment, she didn’t expect anything different from the girl in front of her.
Upon hearing Menma’s last few words, however, Mio’s mind quickly switched topics as she looked the other incredulously. She... she didn’t know about combination puzzles?
Feeling compelled, Mio fumbled around her pockets until she held a small cube in front of her, the surface gleaming despite having stayed in her pockets for quite some time. Attempting to hold back a grin, Mio smirked at the ground, trying to disguise her obvious excitement.
“Well, Endoso-san... this is a combination puzzle! Or, more specifically, a 3x3. They’re pretty fun to solve as a hobby, even if some do consider them... a waste of time, I suppose.”
She frowned at the last part of her sentence. However, that frown was quickly erased once she spoke again, curious about the other’s talent.
“Oh! A maiko! What’s it like being one of those?”
