prologue: ryuji !! warm-up !! attn: norie, maiko

His first thought is, I’ve been smacked in the head with a baseball. Again.  His second thought is, Jesus, my back hurts.  His third thought is…. 

Wait. This isn’t the bullpen. 

Opening his eyes, he doesn’t feel the warm, loose dirt beneath him only cold, hard concrete. Above him isn’t the blinding sun, but lights, artificial as the ones which illuminate the practice field when the sun sets. He’s still trying to make sense of his current circumstances when the announcement blares over the speakers, the voice filling the room unfamiliar but not unpleasant, at least to him. 

In a situation like this, he isn’t supposed to feel so at home and comfortable, in fact he should be afraid or at the very least concerned as very slowly the word ‘quarantine’ resurfaces from the depths of his memory. 

If only the definition of the word resurfaced with it.

“Fuss? Who’s makin’ a fuss?” he asks in response to the first voice which reaches his ears.

Turning towards his companion he recognizes their face, though only vaguely – it wasn’t the face of someone he knew particularly well, and in fact prior to now he knows he hasn’t spoken a single syllable to this person. His eyes wander from them to the others in the room, silently surveying their surroundings (and resting briefly on one figure in particular) before settling on the individual he was actually conversing with.

“Dunno about us actually being okay or not, but…” he leans in a grin on his face as he lowers his voice and points at a girl stationed at the wall, “That girl over there still looks a little sleepy, don’t you think? How about you ‘n me give her a little wake up call?”

Exactly what he meant by that and how he meant to do it, well, it wouldn’t matter unless his companion accepted his offer to cause some mischief or not!

besbaw fact(s) of the day

hops on2 the fact train  11 facts bc,.. well.. 

ryuji’s number is 11 in correlation to the star upsilon scorpii (for the record each of his teammates’ numbers are related to a star in the scorpius constellation -- hence why their numbering system is really weird). catchers are typically given the number ‘2′ and technically he does have the traditional catcher’s number if you look at his number like a roman numeral or add the digits together (1 + 1 = 2; i mean i kno y’all know how to do basic math b ut -- ) !!

sort of hinted at in the pre-despair post but ryuji loves kaiju movies the genre is his favorite tho he rolled his eyes at the recent godzilla film like come on what even was that. 

he’s very proud of the fact that he can do the ‘:3′ face so he shows it off a lot

on a somewhat related note cats are like.. his only friends he likes chilling w/ them tho he’s never had one as a pet??? lots of strays used to come by his house and (of course) they frequented the place since he kept feeding them.

his favorite band is 175r but he’s also into bands like the blue hearts??? it’s a little ironic considering both of his favorite songs from those aforementioned bands (melody and linda linda respectively) are basically love songs (well.. alright so linda lidna is questionably love song material but i mean -- ) and he’s like the least romantic person on the planet

you’ll probably see this in his sprites but he can’t dress himself very well. every once in awhile he’ll luck out but for the most part he’ll step outta the house looking like a total disaster

he paints his nails!!!! or at least. the fingers on his right hand. he paints them obnoxious colors so pitchers can see his catching calls more easily it’s a pretty common practice in the besbaw world -_-!

he’s actually really self-conscious about how thick his eyebrows are like his bangs used to cover them but one of his teammates said if he didn’t cut his hair they’d shave his head in his sleep :^(

his shining moment in his besbaw career would b the moment he tried catching just once w/o wearing the protective mask over his face and getting nailed by a ball right in his fucking forehead it was a good day in shibukawa

he swings without batting gloves. how wild is that?? of course it means there’s a buncha callouses on his hands but nobody can really complain given his batting average. pitchers hate him because of his ability to predict pitches he knows the strike zone inside and out it’s really difficult to strike him out!!

savin the BEST fact for last: his walk up song is the godzilla theme (the motif starts around the 1 minute mark!!) >B”) !!
