after eat practically all the shadowpeach fanfics in Ao3, of all the Hcs they used, the Hc ''Macaque is alive thanks to LBD's magic'' stuck with me the most, so i decided to make a Au 'bout that, with a slow burn shadowpeach (and others ships in between).

You see, after the defeat of LBD, her magic starts to fade away slowly, starting with the mayor, that end up become dust 'cause, you know, he was actually a centuries old dead body that LBD keep alive using his magic, so at the end that's what was gonna happen.
But, what about Macaque? Well, he wasn't a dead body, he was a soul trapped in the Naraka/Diyu, specifically in the Hell of Oil Cauldrons (for his disrespect of the original JTTW team). Then LBD take his soul and make a body with magic to put him back in the mortal realm.
But that's mean just one thing; Macaque's body is also starting to fade away.
the first who catch this anomality was MK: after see how good Red Son was doing being a hero, the succesor of SWK get in the process to befriend all his ''bad but truly no bad'' enemies, being Macaque in this list.
Macaque tries to hide his problems with the ''i'm cool'' mask he always use, but the now not so naive MK see this was something to worry about, and grow more worry after talking with Red Son and hear from him 'bout the fact that every demon believe Macaque was dead before all this (all the demons know that SWK give end to the life of his old comrade, but Red Son can't find in himself the ability to telk Mk that detail).
After connect the dots with that happen to the Mayor shorty after LBD defeat, MK go to SWK in panics with the believe that Macaque is going to die soon.
SWK is skeptical of this, thinking that Macaque is just trying to give more emotional problems to poor MK, but to give the kid a breath he promised him to take a look to see what is happening.
He found more that he would want to...
Now, after think a lot about all of this, SWK get to the results that he can't let Macaque die, even when the shadow was a bad guy before and a ally to LBD, he know that if he let the other monkie die MK would probably get a mental breakdown for this, the kid have too much hope in Macaque, specially after this one give him back the power he take in their first battle, he knows the warrior have a future in the good side.
So, the mental image of MK seeing a Macaque slowy dying without make it to that future is enough to make SWK ready to help his past comrade in this, he want it or not.
His first point in the plan is to give Macaque what he need to stay alive: Magic. But if he give him all the magic he need at the moment the other would see what he's doing, and probably react badly (he know if he ask him the shadow would denied everything, and not accept his magic), so, the only way to work here is by giving him little portions so the shadow wouldn't notice the new energy in him, but how do you excuse that? Easy; being friendly.
A hug here, a ''accidental'' bouncy tackle during a conversation, a friendly take in his tail. All while distracting Macaque with his comments and jokes so the other don't notice the new energy running in his body. By the end of the day, the warrior ends feeling weirdly more energized that before his arrive, and the King end really proud of himself for another day where his plan of keep MK sanity in place is going perfectly fine.
MK and the rest of the team knows about this plan (MK just not knowing that SWK is doing it so he don't end hurt, just thinking his mentor is doing it in the name of their past friendship), and tries to keep Macaque's worries down, since this one is obviously confused of the change in SWK's attitude with him.
'course, SWK can repeat his real intentions with this plan to himself all he want to, and Macaque can denied all of his emotions and feelings, but inside, both are enjoying this new ''friendly'' air in their interactions, is like something long forgotten in the sand of life get to grown again, full of life and hopes.
(I have a theory - or hc of sorts (Hc - 5) - as to how Macaque and Wukong’s betrayals actually went down)
Whilst wukong was being punished by heaven, macaque was shoo’d away every time he had tried to visit him and was denied access to wukong in all senses
Wukong, however, did not know this, and simply thought that macaque had forgotten about him and had no interest in visiting him, and he felt betrayed
Thus, when macaque found out wukong was released from under the mountain and was roaming free across the lands, he was obviously excited, but when he hadn’t found him anywhere near the mountain site he had decided that he had to look for him
Meanwhile, wukong was making NEW friends; friends who ACTUALLY saved him from under the mountain
When macaque finally found him after however many years, of course he was angry to see wukong thriving with his new companions, and of course he had confronted wukong about it
Now that they were both angry, both at a misunderstanding (that neither had realized) macaque decided to take the opportunity to teach wukong a lesson
Thus comes the disguising as wukong, attempting to kill his master, their fight, etc.
But wukong had never delivered the finale blow as macaque had believed he did - in fact, he had made sure to keep macaque alive - it was only when LBD had stumbled across his very wounded, very weak form that an idea had come to mind
Wukong without his glamours on is a little chubby - still muscly, but in the chubby way
No one knows about this, specifically because all of his glamours are always up, and he hates how he sort of let himself go over the years of him being “retired”
He’s still very much fit and can do all the things he could do before, he’s just a little chubbier
Extension..
After a few years of reconciliation with macaque (and macaque initiating the first deflation in his glamours) wukong decides to let himself go a little more and starts to casually drop each glamour as time goes on
His body type is the last glamour he ends up dropping, even though he’s absolutely terrified about it; but he figures since macaque has been so supportive about all of his other ‘flaws’, he could trust him enough
When macaque first saw wukong without his glamour up he didn’t say anything, just stood and stared with a blank expression, and it made wukong freak immediately and he put his glamour back up
It was only when a loud yell escaped from macaque and his cheeks were suddenly being harshly grabbed and shaken did he change his perspective
Macaque just pulls and pinches at his cheeks in the moment and yells angrily; “ASSHOLE! DONT PUT YOUR GLAMOURS BACK UP!”
And wukong just stares in bewilderment; “WHAT THE HELL! WHY?”
And macaque just fucking stares at him, almost literal flames in his eyes and a pitch black expression; “Because it’s hot,”
Wukong immediately steams up and puffs a bright red and POOF - suddenly his glamours are gone - faster than u can actually say “gone”
Macaque has never had anything sour or sweet before (if it hadn’t been for pigsy and his noodles at the end of the lady bone demons reign, he never would’ve tried anything savory before either), because of his death and how when he was alive the creation of sweets didn’t exist yet
He tells wukong about it, something a long the lines of; “Yeah, i haven’t really eaten much human food - we don’t really need it to survive, being immortal and all - and I’ve never really given thought to trying it anyway..”
Wukong immediately drags him around Megapolis city centre and buys him a shit ton of sweets, casually snacking on his own on their way and maybe even stealing a few of macs occasionally too
When they finally sit down to eat, macaque is hesitant, but wukong looks so excited that he just gives in and goes for it
Turns out, mac is a big sweet/sour lover, and from that moment on he had corrupted a new addiction
Now, whenever he’d get hungry, all he would crave was sweets and cakes, and now Wukong has to practically force the fruits and noodles onto him
Not that he’s complaining - he loves fruits, he always has, and he especially loves pigsys noodles - but now its sort of like he no longer sees the appeal until he starts eating
Wukong has an endless social battery, whilst macaque has a very mediocre one
So while wukong likes to spend as much time as possible with the gang, he’ll understand when macaque has lost all his energy and will to socialize (not speaking up, staring at the wall or floor or etc, sitting by himself if he can manage to get away from everyone), and will immediately turn around and give an excuse as to why they have to leave
Macaque only realizes wukong does this for him after a few times, and wukong is rewarded generously (as macaques social battery never runs low with wukong; its infinite)

Mutuals get a lot of love on this site but I think we should also appreciate the random followers who you see in your notes regularly. The ones who you'll probably never end up following but they like and reblog almost every post you make. The ones who you see and go "hey I recognize that person!! they love my posts!" every time they show up in your notifications.
