I will be discontinuing the blog on the Tumblr platform. If you'd still like to read and keep up with the blog, you can find it at shufflebeatmusic.blogspot.com
The blog is doing much better on that platform and it just doesn't make sense to keep it going on both. I will leave the blog here for about a week so that hopefully everyone sees this post, and then it will be deleted.
SONG OF THE DAY: Rio Rio - The Bashful And The Brave
Blog Update
Hey everyone! Just a few things to run through for the update today! First of all, I have two more interviews with local bands coming up! Both interviews are on Saturday, and one will be posted at the beginning of next week, while one is posted at the end of next week. One is with a Rochester band called The Branch Davidians and the other is with Buffalo band Thundercloud Kid. I've also emailed a few more and I'm hoping to hear back soon.
I'm also adding another type of post to this blog as well: features. These could be on bands, area music shops, venues, local music organizations, and other things like that. Look out for those! The first one should be out sometime toward the middle of the month.
Lastly, if anyone is interested in contributing to this blog about their own city's music scene or if you want to write a feature about a local band in your town, email me! Send your email to [email protected] with the subject line 'Shufflebeatmusic' with your pitch and I'll get back to you ASAP! I check my email once an hour, so I'll get back to you pretty fast. I'd love to hear about other music scenes and I'm always looking for new music.

Soviet Dolls Interview!
Hey readers! This past Tuesday, I sat down with local band Soviet Dolls for a quick get-to-know-you interview! They were really awesome to hang out with for a little while and I even got to hear them rehearse a few songs! They're one of my favorite local bands that I've recently discovered. If you live in the area, go check out one of their shows, you won't be disappointed! If you're not in the area, you can still check out their music on their website, which I'll link at the bottom of this post. So we'll start with the basics: Who are the members and what are their roles? Hannah Gouldrick- Vocals Matt Cavallaro- Guitar, Synth, Production, and a little bit of everything- "He runs the show!" Steve Quinn- Bass, Synth, Production Greg Stella- "My favorite ice cream is vanilla." :) Who are they and who are their influences? "I would file it in with Depeche Mode, or maybe even some trip hop groups." (Greg) "Yeah, it's like a big melting pot. I don't want to sound cliche but it's kind of like a mix of everything." (Matt) There's a stark contrast between the rougher music and the pure vocals Hannah provides. Matt adds that they have a very similar sound to CHVRCHES- "I swear I didn't rip them off!" he said...They actually didn't know who they were when they formed. Where did the name come from? "Me and my brother were sitting in a bar and we were trying to come up with a name. He came up with the name Soviet Flowers and I said 'No, what about Soviet Dolls' and he said that was way better. There's no real deep story behind it, but we definitely play off the name a little bit." (Matt) What's coming up for them? They have a show coming up on September 14 at the Bug Jar with Broods. "We've played a few shows at the Bug Jar before with Joywave and KOPPS, but this is our first time playing with Broods." (Hannah) They have a few tentative shows out by Syracuse and in Buffalo, but they're up in the air. "We're doing some recording and starting to write, but I don't know what it's going to be yet." (Matt) Are there any other local bands that you guys find you play shows with a lot or you collaborate with? "We're really good friends with Admirers and The Branch Davidians (Greg's other band), KOPPS, Joywave, pretty much everyone down at the Bug Jar. We're pretty acquainted with everybody, but we don't play with everybody. There's definitely a little community where we can pick up the phone and set up a show with people." (Matt) So there you have it! Short and sweet, but to the point. To check out their music, you can head to their website. For tickets to the September 14 show with Broods, hit the band up on Twitter!
Update!
Hey guys! So I just wanted to write up a quick update because there's a couple new things going on! First of all, on Tuesday night, I sat down with local band Soviet Dolls and did a quick little get-to-know-you interview with them! I'll be typing it up later today and editing it tomorrow, so look for that on probably Saturday! Also, I have another thing to add to my growing list of what I'm involved with. This Fall, I will be
joining the College Marketing Program for XL Recordings. If you don't know who they are, they are a company who has worked with Adele, Vampire Weekend, Tyler the Creator, M.I.A and more. If you'd like to check them out their website is xlrecordings.com.
So if you're a little lost on exactly what it is that I'm involved with (I know I'm literally at the point of color coding my schedules to keep it straight), here is a laundry list of everything:
-Internship with The Caring Music Group: A local music organization that focuses on creating and selling music to help people with their mental health. I help with whatever projects they need done, but it's mostly marketing and community outreach. (http://www.thecaringmusicgroup.com/index)
-Fearless Records Street Team: I help promote releases, concerts, tours and the like for Fearless Records bands. If you'd like to join, email [email protected]
-The Syndicate: They're a marketing company based in NYC. They have an elite street team called SynnerNation which consists of about 450 people nationwide, which is what I do. My job is to go to shows and promote clients of the Syndicate. For a more in depth look at what I do, you can look at my progress update from earlier on in the week, where I described my experience at the Linkin Park show last week. To join, visit thesyn.com/join/
-Open Our Eyes: This is a website that focuses on the positive impact of music. They feature band/music reviews, interviews, and playlists. I am one of their newest music bloggers and will be officially starting my post in September. Check them out at openoureyes.org/category/music/
-XL Recording: I won't reiterate what I said above, but I wanted to include it in the list!
-WMCC Radio: This is my college radio station, and more information about this will be coming up once I start back next week. I'm an on-air DJ and an event coordinator officially, but honestly we all do a little bit of everything in the office.
So there it is! Stay tuned for the Soviet Dolls interview on Saturday and more posts like this one coming up next week! I already have Sunday's playlist pretty much finished, it's a genre this week!

Blessthefall Show
I've been promoting the Blessthefall show for the past month, as I've talked about in previous posts, so it's been something I've looked forward to and it did not disappoint! I was on Blessthefall's guest list, and for my venue assignment, I had to collect newsletter signups in exchange for a sticker from Fearless Records. People were very willing to interact with me and talk about the band, which made my job fairly easy. I met up with the merch coordinator for Blessthefall and talked to him for a few minutes, and then enjoyed the show! Capture the Crown was first up, and I was definitely impressed by them. The lead singer interacted with the crowd more than any other artist I've seen and it was incredibly entertaining to watch. The next band, I Killed The Prom Queen was great as well, but having never heard of them before, I hung toward the back for that one. Then came Blessthefall. I was so incredibly excited to see them and I loved every single second of their set. They were high energy and sounded absolutely amazing, and the crowd loved them. Chiodos was supposed to be the other headliner but they were forced to pull out of the tour because of a medical emergency. This was my first time promoting at a show for Fearless and I couldn't be happier with the way things went. I'm wrapping up my report this week and I'm hoping there will be another show coming through soon. Down below I've attached a few pictures from the show!

Progress Update!
Hey readers! Last week was busy for me and this week is shaping up to be an interesting one as well! Hold on tight for this post folks, it's going to be a bit of a novel.
Last Thursday, I had my first assignment for The Syndicate. I had to help promote a contest that Linkin Park was running at their concert at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. To do this, a friend and I got there about an hour and a half before the gates opened and started handing out flyers advertising the contest to concert-goers. We started with tailgaters, then moved to people in line, and then after getting our tickets (which were free thanks to a spot on the Linkin Park guest list), we finished up inside the venue. It was incredibly hard for me at first, being a natural introvert. I don't particularly like walking up to random people, but after the first few groups, it was a little better. Having a friend with me helped as well. Once we were finished handing out the flyers we were free to enjoy the show! We watched the opening band, AFI, who were pretty cool. They didn't have a ton of chemistry on stage, but they sounded awesome. Then, my boss texted me, saying he was at the show and wanted to meet up! We had never met before (my interview was on the phone), so I was pretty nervous, but it all went smoothly and we went back to our seats. The next band, 30 Seconds to Mars, was set to take the stage, and I hadn't realized it was one of my friend's favorite bands. I also liked a lot of their music so needless to say we both loved their performance. They sounded great and went all out, balloons and confetti both spilling out over the audience during their set. Finally, Linkin Park came on, and sounded just as awesome as I imagined they'd be. All in all, it was a very successful and fun night. Not a bad way to start out my time with the Syndicate.
Next up was the much awaited Blessthefall show. I've been promoting it for the past month, as I've talked about in previous posts, so it's been something I've looked forward to and it did not disappoint. I was on Blessthefall's guest list, and for my venue assignment, I had to collect newsletter signups in exchange for a sticker from Fearless Records. It was so much easier at this show than Thursday's show despite being alone this time, and I found that people were much more willing to interact with me. I'll be making up a full post with pictures and videos specifically about the Blessthefall set tomorrow. Chiodos was supposed to be the other headliner but they were forced to pull out of the tour because of a medical emergency. This was my first time promoting at a show for Fearless and I couldn't be happier with the way things went. I'm wrapping up my report this week and I'm hoping there will be another show coming through soon.
As for other things going on, if all goes well, I should be interviewing local band Soviet Dolls tomorrow evening during their rehearsal. They're one of my favorite local bands so I'm very excited to sit down with them. If it happens tomorrow, I should have it typed up and posted by the end of the week! Also, as another thing to add on to my already decent workload, I was just offered a music blogger position at Open Our Eyes, a site that focuses on the positive influence music has in our lives. I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of their team, and I start this upcoming month, so look for more on that later!
Also, I'm going to try to post quite a bit this week, because college starts back up for me next week, so I'll have a little less time to dedicate to just this!

Daily Update!
It's been an exciting couple of days for me! Two days ago, I started reaching out to some local bands to see if I could sit down for an interview with them. I finally heard back from one of them and it just so happens that it's my favorite local band: Soviet Dolls! I featured one of their songs on my playlist earlier this week, so you should definitely check them out! We're scheduling it for sometime next week, so it should be up by the following Monday. I can't wait to share this with you guys!
If you'd like to check their music out, here's the link: http://sovietdolls.com/
I am reaching out to some local bands to hopefully secure some interviews in the next week! Wish me luck :)
