God damn her pride. Sometimes she wondered when it was going to get her killed, but now was as good as any other time. She was just waiting for her bones to be on fire and Maven’s smile to be edged into her brain as she passes on, but he was surprisingly well rounded and refused to give her such a quit exit. He wanted her to suffer, but she wasn’t going to allow that.

“Last I remember, you care enough to let him live in order to have me.”

“Priorities exist, Mare. You’re more, ah, important than him.”

A quick smile; but not by much are his unsaid words. Though he, admittedly, has a... ‘weakness’ for her, she’s still expendable. He was always excellent at putting aside his emotions, and though he relishes in having her here now, he would kill her if it was needed. He’s sure she knows that already, but reminding her wouldn’t hurt, now would it?
