My mother used to say to me, âYou canât eat beauty, it doesnât feed you.â And these words played and bothered me, I didnât really understand them until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume. It was something that I just had to be. And what my mother meant by saying that you canât eat beauty is that you canât rely on beauty to sustain you. What actually sustains us, what is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and those around you. That kind of beauty inflames the heart and enchants the soul.

âLittle is known about the origins of Nefertiti, but her legacy of beauty and power continue to intrigue scholars today. Her name is Egyptian and means âa beautiful woman has come.â Some evidence suggests that she hailed from the town Akhmim and is the daughter or niece of a high official named Ay. Other theories have suggested that she was born in a foreign country, possibly Syria. But until her remains and other details are discovered, these are just theories.
The exact date when Nefertiti married Amenhotep IIIâs son, the future pharaoh Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten, is unknown. It is believed she was 15 when they wed, which may have been before Akhenaten assumed the throne. They apparently ruled together from 1353 to 1336 B.C. and had six daughters, with speculation that they may have also had a son. Their daughter Ankhesenamun would eventually marry her half brother Tutankhamun, the future ruler of Egypt. Artwork from the day depicts the couple and their daughters in an unusually naturalistic and individualistic style, more so than from earlier eras. The king and his head queen seem to be inseparable in reliefs, often shown riding in chariots together and even kissing in public. It has been stated that the couple may have had a genuine romantic connection, a dynamic not generally seen in depictions of ancient pharaohs. Nefertiti and the pharaoh took an active role in establishing the Aten cult, a religious mythology which defined Aten, the sun, as the most important god and the only one worthy of worship in Egyptâs polytheistic canon. Amenhotep IV changed his name to Akhenaten (also seen as âAkenhatenâ in some references) to honor the deity. It is believed that the king and queen were priests and that it was only through them that ordinary citizens could obtain access to Aten. Nefertiti changed her name to Neferneferuaten-Nefertiti, meaning âbeautiful are the beauties of Aten, a beautiful woman has come,â as a show of her absolutism for the new religion.â - biography.com
Chicago cop fatally shoots 19-year-old student and accidentally kills 55-year-old mother of fiveÂ
The Chicago Police Department was under fire again Saturday, the day after Christmas, after cops responding to a domestic disturbance call fatally shot a 19-year-old college student Quintonio LeGrier and accidentally killed a 55-year-old mother of five Bettie jones.
Officers were summoned to the West Garfield Park home about 4:20 a.m. after Quintonio LeGrier, 19, started having one of his mental episodes.
Chicago police initially released few details on the shooting, saying only that an officer opened fire after they were âconfronted by a combative subject.â But late Saturday, the department admitted that Jones was struck by a bullet meant for LeGrier. LeGrierâs father told reporters he had called the police and then Jones â warning her not to open her door until the officers showed up.
Before arriving at the scene on Saturday, the officers were told by a dispatcher that the domestic disturbance involved a teen wielding a baseball bat. dispatcher said it was âalso coming in as a domestic. The 19-year-old son is banging on his bedroom door with a baseball bat.â
Once cops arrived, Antontio LeGrier said, he started heading downstairs when he heard the crack of gunfire.
By the time he made it to the ground floor, his son and Jones were lying motionless in the foyer.
The officer, LeGrier said, was yelling, âno, no, no.â
âIn my opinion, he knew he had messed up. It was senseless,â Antonio LeGrier, 47, told the Chicago Sun-Times. âHe knew he had shot, blindly, recklessly into the doorway and now two people are dead because of it.â
Jonesâ daughter Latisha said she was jolted awake by the sound of gunfire â and then found her mother splayed out on the floor of their apartment, bleeding from the neck.
âShe wasnât saying anything,â Latisha Jones said. âI had to keep checking for a pulse.â
LeGrierâs mother, Janet Cooksey, who was not present at the time of the shooting, lashed out at the officers for taking the life of her only son. She said Quintonio was an engineering student at Northern Illinois University who was dealing with mental issues.
âWeâre thinking the police are going to service us, take him to the hospital,â Cooksey told the Chicago Tribune. âThey took his life.â
The chicago police are currently working on the investigation.
