it’s completely fine that you dislike a ship! however, you can dislike a ship without calling it borderline abuse when it isn’t.
i’ve also grown up in an abusive household- several actually. i’ve also been in an abusive relationship. however, aleheather isn’t abusive. i could understand your point about heather hitting him but that wasn’t the first thing she did at all when they first met. here’s the alejandro and heather scenes from tdas if you want proof. yes, she did kick him in his privates in the tdwt finale but he literally stuck his tongue down her throat. it was sort of justified! what would you do if a guy you weren’t dating made out with you on the spot on international television?
plus, they resolved the robot suit issue and alejandro got her back for the robot suit by getting her eliminated. they settled their disagreement and only then were they in a relationship so there were no ill feelings toward each other on the matter.
you mention that he only helps her when he gets something out of it. and, yes, in some cases that is true. however, that isn’t even necessarily true all of the time! what did he have to gain from saving her in “Aww, Drumheller!”? plus isn’t playing for themselves what everyone in the game did, though? literally everyone played for themselves. it’s a competition!
they don’t bring out the worst in each other because before they were even in a relationship, they behaved the same way. in fact, after they WERE together they sort of calmed down, didn’t they? remember the line “we don’t even want the money”? (i’m paraphrasing of course but the point still remains)
let’s compare alejandro to duncney after s1, a ship that actually is abusive. courtney constantly wanted to change duncan and she was physically abusive towards him for no reason. alejandro loves the way heather is and vice versa- neither one wants to change the other! also, after the finale which, again, was justified, when did either ever physically harm the other?
i’d like to discuss the examples you have because i don’t think i can recall a single instance of abuse in their relationship.
